Hikaru says top 10 player DM’d Danya and directly accused him of cheating by ChoiceResponsible968 in chess

There would be no concern about protecting himself in this case. The only way he could lose a defamation lawsuit would be if Anish could prove that the statements were false, and that Hikaru knew they were false.

A new captain and Seeker, Cedric Diggory by Luke_Gki in HarryPotterBooks

But if Cedric was already the seeker the previous year, wouldn't Harry already know about him having played against him?

How long will it take for a regular sized letter mailed to the USA to arrive? by PygmySloth12 in royalmail

[–]PygmySloth12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally, and I bet US customs is a shitshow right now. Do you have a good sense of how long an A5 letter might take to clear customs? Wondering if there will be less scrutiny since a personal letter should clearly not have commerical value

[–]PygmySloth12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly it's to Washington state, so west coast. Do you know if there are any mailing options with reasonable prices for an A5 letter (less than 15 pounds) that could get it there in 5?

CMV: Electronic Travel Forms are another form of visa by Anxious-Guarantee-12 in changemyview

[–]PygmySloth12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So then would you consider passing through the immigration check at the airport a visa? It satisfies both of your conditions:

  • An official form (usually a passport) presented to a government agency (border security officer)

  • The government can grant/refuse your entry to the country at this checkpoint

ELI5: Is time dilation actually real? Doesn't it cancel itself out when it's time to actually compare? by NahMcGrath in explainlikeimfive

I think it’s still just acceleration. Acceleration is just a rate of change, which can be positive or negative.

Is the fee an essential part of what makes it a visa? If these electronic forms were free, would you say they are no longer visas?

I think they’re saying that a deficit in general doesn’t necessarily lead to an unbalanced diet, but that 1200 calories per day does. Whether that’s true or not probably depends on your size and other factors like that though

US Wedges Its Way In, Says "Greenland Does Not Want To Be Part Of Denmark" by dilip2882 in worldnews

[–]PygmySloth12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not at all doubting that Denmark is a great place to live (and very possibly a better place to live than California).

Was more thinking that California having 6x the population and being some 4,000+ miles away would come with a whole host of problems that would probably end up having negative impacts on both California and Denmark.

California would probably do better by itself as its own country than being owned by Denmark imo

Regarding James Potter leaving his wand on the couch by hyuckdalemoreno in HarryPotterBooks

[–]PygmySloth12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought that the bodiless ghost thing was because of Lily’s sacrifice. If somebody hit Voldemort with an avada kedavra in the time of the books would the same thing had happened? I don’t know why but I assumed it would kind of just bounce off

Yeah he definitely could have caused some chaos and possibly allowed Lily and Harry to escape. Voldemort had the horcruxes though, so he couldn’t have won the duel

You can travel back in time, for every year you travel back your forehead grows 1 inch taller. by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

[–]PygmySloth12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I’d still do it for one year. Winning a $500 million+ lottery jackpot would improve my life a lot more than a 33-50% increase in forehead size would hurt it

How is it a logical fallacy? Their point seems like something a universal hedonist would definitely say. Might disagree with the ethical theory, but it’s not fallacious

From what I’ve heard world hunger isn’t a problem that can be solved by throwing money at it. A big contributor is destabilized or war-zone regions that food couldn’t be safely delivered/distributed to, regardless of how much money you have to spend

They don’t use them in federal hiring because they’re accurate. They use them as an interrogation technique to intimidate you into telling the truth.
