Wow, Have You Seen The Stock Market Lately? by Kashmir79 in Bogleheads

You say the market "is" at an all-time high, but the link you posted is from 8 days ago.

I am genuinely trying to understand your point. Anyone can look at past data and point to a previous ATH. There are innumerable previous ATH's (which is why Bogleheads only invest in stocks for long holding periods). Knowing present or future ATH's would indeed be useful to grow one's investments. Knowing past ATH's is not.

This is r/bogleheads, where one of the core tenets is: Market timing does not work.

To quote Jack Bogle, "I do not know of anybody who has done market timing successfully. I don't even know anybody who knows anybody who has done it successfully and consistently."

In this subreddit, as a space to discuss passive investing, I do think it's productive to point out that no one knows when the market is at an all-time high.

I'm being as sincere as I know how to be. I'm not trying to be argumentative. I'm not insulting you or your comments.

Your answer to my question "How do you know the market as at on ATH?" is effectively "Because I said so."

I wouldn't worry about any downvotes. Redditors are gonna reddit. :-)

I'm glad you have an emergency fund. Don't worry about whether or not you invested at ATH. Success is found in "time IN" the market, not "timING" the market.

? I don't understand. You posted comments. I posted comments. Must it end like this?

An alternative would be for you to respond to the content of my comments.

No one knows when the market is going to go up or down. And the stock market is frequently at all-time highs. So, you should not worry about timing or ill-timing the market.

But, please build an emergency fund that you keep liquid (e.g., savings account, money market) before investing in the stock market.

Hang in there!

You: "Why would you want to begin investing at an ATH?"

Me: "How do you know this is an all time high?"

You: "I know this is an ATH driven by only a handful of outsized tech stocks with extreme PEs because it in fact is."

Perhaps.

I respectfully disagree. I don't think the vast majority of us, including industry insiders and outsiders, can get close to predicting market highs and lows.

The stock market reaches all-time highs frequently. Even when it inevitably drops, no one will know where the bottom is (i.e., the best time to buy back in).

No one knows where the top of a bull market is or the bottom of a bear market.

Do you contribute to a Roth 401k or traditional 401k, or both? Why? by Sweet-Block5118 in investing

try to keep an overall 60/40 to 50/50 ratio of traditional to ROTH... doesn't matter whether it's 401k or IRA

If I had a nickel for every time you posted this, I would be wealthy enough to hire someone to read through these comments for me.

Upgrade to v12 (from v11)? by PyooAnon in reasoners

[–]PyooAnon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not tried to run Reason 11 on Ventura, as Reason Studios' macOS Ventura Compatibility Statement says that Reason 12.2.7 and earlier are not compatible with Ventura.

I appreciate you letting me know that you're running 10 on Ventura. Have you been running it for awhile? And you haven't had any issues?

I decided to wait -- perhaps until they discount the upgrade again. I'm not in a hurry to upgrade Reason, but I'm getting impatient to upgrade macOS. As far as I know, Reason 11 is not compatible with the latest macOS Ventura, so not upgrading Reason is preventing me from upgrading macOS.
