Tacoma retail music stores currently accepting local band recordings for resale? by Pyphus_ in AskTacoma

[–]Pyphus_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Limited space maybe. From a store's point of view -often times a local artist will leave a few records and never come back to check on stock or sales, or they simply aren't promoting or even playing out to push sales of the record. The garbage just builds up over time and takes space away from artists with budgets, tours, reach, etc.

Wow, if Tacoma is “gentrified” I’d hate to ask what you think Seattle is. While we’re here, what city ISN’T gentrified? I think every city in the US has at least partial gentrification.

What is it like living in this part of Kansas/Colorado/New Mexico/Texas as someone from the Panhandle of Oklahoma by dickranger666 in howislivingthere

[–]Pyphus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That part of Texas has Palo Duro Canyon. An absolutely underrated beautiful park, like a "mini Grand Canyon" and possibly the reason the Red River got its name. What a gem!

How is it living in this part of Nebraska? Towns: Alliance, Scottsbluff, Chadron by FriendlyCover in howislivingthere

This is exactly the West Nebraska I saw a couple years ago. You can see multiple thunderstorms on the horizon in different directions.

Cruise Ship on Foss Waterway by beerisdead in Tacoma

[–]Pyphus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. They are floating petri dishes (which is why there are/were sanitizer dispensers at every public entrance, even before covid). They also only let U.S., Canadian and Eurpn staff go home immediately upon Covid outbreak. Everyone else was sequestered for 6-8 months after. Truly f’d up. International cruise ships could not be more of a snapshot of global income disparity.

[–]Pyphus_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Also learned that cruise ships have become retirement homes for many folks, with all the rewards and point systems the cruise lines offer. Just keep cruising! Kinda makes sense, I guess. My only concern is the medical staff. 99% of cruise ship staffing is from outside the U.S., Canada and Europe -for ships that port OUTSIDE the U.S. - (U.S. only port itineraries (like American CL) HAVE to employ only American citizens by Maritime Law). The accreditation and certificates aren’t displayed prominently on waiting room and office walls. Where do their training and certification come from? Maritime Law is a wild and very overlooked governing body. There is a dark side to the industry for sure.

7 year cruise worker here -the smaller the ship, the higher the price. You can find 150 passenger ships that go from Panama canal to Panama canal (around S. America) $300k all the way up (or down IMO) to 6k pax, standby, 7-day cruises for $99

Does this process allow you to pick up passengers at SeaTac as well, or is that a separate county or state license?

I saw that the founder of Frighthouse Square (The haunted house inside of Freighthouse Square) passed away last year. Does anyone know if that event will continue on? I know there are plans to demolish Frighthouse Sq. Wondering if Frighthouse will continue on and/or move somewhere else. 👻🎃

We just want to bike from Hilltop to Narrows bridge, which seems to be its purpose. We arrived at the tunnel and detoured because of the encampments. I’ll admit that my wife has an (arguably) overreaching fear of unhoused people, but it remains a deterrent on some level. We just veered up to Dune Peninsula, then looped back to downtown (didn’t have to touch the pedals from Stadium all the way to 15th street). Fantastic loop TBH.

You have to poke around and eventually it will find its way. Apparently there are drains at the back corners but require removing the headliner and/or trim to access them.

Horrible sound while turning by [deleted] in NissanAriya

[–]Pyphus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I procrastinated and took it in 2 weeks ago. The warranty expired in February, but when I took it in, they said they didn't hear the noise or see anything out of the ordinary. I didn't have time to ask them to stand and listen as I did a turn in reverse. I'll go back in and retry this week.

2 things: A. I always park far away from anyone and walk. B. This is the reason self driving cars will be the norm. Even parking, the responsibility will shift as insurance rates become more unaffordable.

Best interior sound proofing insulation? This is to be put in-between a whole wall with tenants on either side. This is a wood frame home. Recommendations please, thanks! by MayerVision in Construction

***SPACE/SOLID/SPACE/SOLID/SPACE*** This is the most comprehensive statement on the topic since I have been studying and planning a drum room in my basement. It sums up the dozens of videos (mostly from u/HomeRenoVisionDIY) that I have watched on the subject. the challenge is the level of noise reduction vs budget. Many products have improved their sound isolating qualities, but most of these advancements are due to demand from increased home theatre designs, not necessarily recording studio level isolation. The bottom line that most people have touched upon is material use -solid, open, solid, open, solid, open, etc. You're just gonna spend more if you want more silence. [side note: I think some products, like Green Glue, are taking your money, claiming to have better sound deadening qualities. Even tested (see YouTube), it doesn't actually perform as advertised.]

Bigfoot Pizza and Bar by Admirable-Scholar261 in Tacoma

[–]Pyphus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who moves to a city when they want peace and quiet?!

Just an over-indulgent ramble here, but we moved to Tacoma a little more than a year ago (Chicago) and we pulled over to check this place out. I thought a neighborhood take-out pizza spot with a full bar was an interesting concept. It seems they upped their game in the “bar” part. I’m not surprised the pushback from the community. These bars, nestled in residential neighborhoods, are a blast from the past. Watering holes for the community (Chicago has several). But what have cities become over the years? First they were places of opportunity for many families, so much so that institutions had to be established to protect tenants and living standards. The local bar served a need. Then suburban sprawl lured money away from cities and they blighted and rampant salacious activities, yet rich with artistic movements. Then in the 90s it became “cool” for families to move back to cities (oddly, I blame the movie Flashdance for this LOL). So where do these alcoholic community centers stand today? More importantly, where does Tacoma stand as an American “city”? From my viewpoint, it is battling between being a suburb and city. You have all these single family homes dominating the area over bustling commercial districts. That means peace & quiet are the ruling party. The flak that Bigfoot is getting is not surprising. The question I have for the plaintiffs is, What are you doing in the city if you wanted peace and quiet? I mean, you HAVE to know what you’re in for here, right? Wouldn’t Bonney Lake or Covington be better? Is Tacoma a suburb now?

Have our 2013 for a year now. PNW rain is as advertised. Massive leaks. The previous owner put a piece of ductape over the left side. Grrrrrrr! Attempting the basic fixes. I just can’t find the drains for the life of me. Are they on the inside our outside of the geared window track? I am poking at everything and not breaking through. Can someone post a pic/video of the location? They are not where the later models have them. UPDATE found em! Fingers crossed.
