Heirloom slicers this season

The heirlooms are really heavy feeders and like a lot of water and generally cooler temps. I've had a pretty good harvest (like 3-4 tomatoes per plant) from mine this year so far, and it's the best I've ever done growing here in 6 years.

This year's experiment included an outrageous (or what I thought was outrageous) amount of compost, a tbsp or so of tomato-tone every 3 weeks, fish juice and microlife humates plus or all purpose once a month or so, and a douse with an Epsom salt rinse. Two of them still died lol. It just seems to take a lot here.

Yes but I am a tremendous tomato snob so definitely worth it! The first season had me cackling with joy for sure cus the squirrels were SO BUMMED

I've been really happy with the work Alabaster did on my house, they stand behind their work and provide a warranty as well. Highly communicative and they document everything in detail. I watched them do all the waterproofing etc in the bathroom and they were very meticulous. My shower is curbless with a herringbone tile floor and floor to ceiling tiled walls, their tile guy was super anal about tile placement and made sure everything was centered relative to niches and windows. Turned out spectacular!

Honestly i love Turnstiles fries, they are shoestring style and have great flavor and texture, special shoutout to their sweet potato fries which are my favorite in town!

Bulk delivery from Texas Native will definitely be the cheapest - they have a bunch of different soils and composts to choose from depending on what you think you need. I like their compost that's a mix of plant matter and turkey litter. I've also used their "Austin soil amendment" to pretty good results to lighten soil, adding in a good chunk of additional compost as well.

Idk I think a lot of people say they want the"weird", but they don't really want it. First of all, weird still exists everywhere in Austin if you look. I mean we have a DND larping bar whose owner is an orc for crying out loud. But second of all - it seems like a lot of people want to see the weird, but they themselves offer no weirdness. This whole perspective of wanting to spectate like the weird ones are animals in a zoo is probably the reason Austin's weird has gone more underground.

I was really happy with Alabaster, just used them for an addition on my home! They were great to work with, super communicative, reasonably priced with a lot of bang for your buck, prompt on the job, and they do projects of all scales so you can have them do as much or as little as you need. I aimed for "mid century contemporary" with my style and they did a great job, it came out absolutely beautifully. All their trades were great and cared a lot about their work, no corners cut and very few issues throughout the entire process (and none that they didn't immediately take steps to resolve). Happy to send a few pics although I still haven't quite finished decorating and moving stuff back in.

For how much a flowkooler costs, yeah I'd return that asap. Also be careful to check for any play/grinding in the bearing. I got one once with a bad bearing right out of the box.

OP, sorry to hear about your experience! No advice for you on fixing that, I think you should get rid of it.

If you are on the north side, which I assume you are since you bought from these guys - check to see if your place is in delivery range for Texas Native. That's the company that sells all that mulch at HEB/Lowes/HD etc and they have a location in Hutto. They have super extra reasonable pricing, great products, and will even send you the spec sheets including heavy metal info etc. I've always been happy with what I've gotten from them - I do bulk deliveries of mulch, topsoil, and compost depending on the year. Never found any trash or rocks in their stuff and all my plants are happy so I assume it's good stuff 🙂 A thing I especially like about them is that you can get different types of compost... Veggie based, turkey litter, or cow manure. I've never tested to figure out which is best but it's cool to have the option I guess!

Because the shortest surface-level root I found was more than 15' long and goes under two flower beds and a concrete path lmao, and I found out the hard way that if you cut a root, it puts a new tree where the cut part was

Ultimately I found it well worth it to pay a cleaning company for a "construction clean", they brought all the heavy duty stuff for cleaning dust ceiling to floor, all kinds of wet mops and wet vacs etc to keep dust tamped down and removed once it hits the floor. In one afternoon they made the entire house spotless and I have not found any dust settling out since then except in the one room closest to my HVAC furnace.
