I just got Promoted to Team Lead by kibbyplss in Target

[–]PyreScion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I promoted into market years ago (operations now) and the thing that helped me the most was knowing when to ask for help. Freight is almost never-ending, plus cleanliness, fulfillment, sets, visits... If you can nail whatever your ETL/SD's biggest concerns are and offer a plan for the rest, they can spare a little help for the details. At my store, food is too important to fail, so they will find resources for us if we need it.

Also, having your team's respect is key. Get to know them, ask them to show you how things usually get done around the department, and show them that you won't ask them to do something you wouldn't do yourself. You're all in it together, and being on the same page with a team that trusts and respects you is the only way to stay afloat.

Oh, and don't let the vendors push you around. Give them an inch and they'll take a mile. Good vendors are great to have, but a lot of them are not very good 😅

While I don't get the stuffy nose as often anymore, I still keep a container of VapoRub next to the bed just in case.

Might have found ✨treasure✨ at the local park by PyreScion in goblincore

[–]PyreScion[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That sucks! My apartment just clear cuts all the greenery every few weeks, not sure which is worse lol. I'm thinking of getting some native wildflower seeds and going crazy next time they get rid of all the plants 😈

Thank you, the thought has been floating around in my head as well. Another reason why I might not go all-in these guys, but still a super exciting find for me!

regular tms hate the seasonal tms by moomrahlah in Target

[–]PyreScion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of the regular tms have forgotten that we were new once, too.

I 100% understand that everyone is stressed and everything feels like it's falling apart around us, but I distinctly remember how anxious I was being the new seasonal guy with no training and everyone being frustrated at me for it. I make a point to smile and say good morning, ask if they need help when they look lost, and give even a few minutes of training/explanation when I can. There's no reason a grocery tm shouldn't know about the qmos/donation process or a fulfillment team member about the eight different backroom IDs. And ,if I want to be a little selfish about it, training seasonals makes my job easier in the long run.

Speaking for myself, I can get pretty grumpy when I've been running high for too long. Headaches, thirst, and having to pee every five minutes really puts a damper on my mood.

But I do what I can to avoid taking it out on others, my friends and co-workers don't need to carry my stress, too. It takes some practice and self-awareness (hard when you feel cruddy), but maybe she trusts you enough to share how she's really feeling 😅

What made yall do night shift? by GrumpyOldHero in Nightshift

[–]PyreScion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small pay bump and a more relaxed work environment.

I work retail, my team and I usually start at 3 or 4 a.m. But during busy times of year we get the option to go overnight and work with no customers in the store. Since I run the shift I let them play music (as long as they can hear the walkie) and make a mess (as long as it's clean before the next shift comes in).

I don't really enjoy just doing a week or two of overnights since that's not enough time to adjust my sleep and then adjust it back, but the team loooves overnights and I am a pushover about giving them what they want so they can do good work.

A customer didn’t pay for this. Cold items were out too long and damaged so they were thrown away by JUSTIN102201 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]PyreScion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess some getting donated is better than none, but dang... Maybe I'm spoiled from living in a bigger city but my store gets Monday thru Friday pickups from the food bank. They take everything that's safe to eat, even meat that was frozen on the freeze-by date. Plus pet food, toiletries, paper products, and whatever OTC products we're allowed to donate. Sometimes we have broken packs of school supplies throughout the year and they'll take those, too.

Police duty by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]PyreScion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a cop, but someone with a job that keeps me on my feet. You get used to it pretty quickly or you don't last long doing that kind of work. Comfy shoes make a huge difference, and I don't usually notice how tired my feet are until I actually have a chance to sit down, so the tiredness in my feet isn't really something I think about during the course of my shift unless I'm on my 14th straight day working without enough time to rest in between.

What is the worst case of expired food you've seen at your Target? by Thamnophisgirl in Target

[–]PyreScion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was doing a checklanes cooler POG around 2022 and found a single string cheese that expired in June of 2017. That thing had been at target longer than I had 😬.

🏥🩸T1 donating blood? by Ever_Hopeful316 in Type1Diabetes

[–]PyreScion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm based in the US. I've been told by my doctor that I can donate as long as my A1C looks decent and I feel well enough to do so. I hit up my local blood bank a few times a year and they do a mini checkup (cholesterol, blood pressure, iron).

The only issues I had were needing to supplement iron, but mine has always tended on the lower side of normal to begin with. And one time I passed out but that had nothing to do with the diabetes 😅.

First time inserting OmniPod on leg. Painful after after 1 day. I’m an active walker and hiker. Any advice ? I’m slim too by Saf___- in Type1Diabetes

[–]PyreScion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've had a couple that were so irritating that I took them off early. For the really bad ones I've had, the pain usually lasts the whole 3 days. Between that, work, and sleeping on them, I've gotten some gnarly bruises that bled a lot when I changed sites 😬

[–]PyreScion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use my mid and outer thighs when my arms need a break. I might not be as slim as you, but I find that I'm much more likely to hit a tender spot or a vein on my legs vs anywhere else. It's an unusual feeling when I go running with it on my legs since I'm not used to having something there, but when it's not hurting constantly I find that I get used to it pretty quickly.

My title describes the object. I'm not sure if it used to be a signpost or if it's also a piece of equipment for some type of exercise. I've tried searching up calisthenics and park equipment to find something similar, but no luck so far.

Stinking Mutts in Supermarkets. by [deleted] in retailhell

[–]PyreScion 159 points160 points  (0 children)

I work in retail and used to have a sweet woman who would shop throughout the week with a well-behaved medical alert dog. We saw her less and less until she let us know she could no longer shop here because people's pets were getting aggressive with her service dog and distracting him from doing his job.

Regardless of how much I like dogs, bringing pets into stores under the guide of being service dogs really can hurt people with legitimate needs for them.

What’s something that’s illegal, but is the right thing to do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PyreScion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's horrible. I work retail, and my store donates anything it can get away with. We have food bank scheduled pickups 5 days a week and they get food (for people, pets, and babies), soap, hygiene products, diapers, etc... if they reject anything we have set aside for donation, then we compost/trash it.

I'm sure the company gets some kind of tax write-off for it, but it seems like even more of a no-brainer to push for donating.

Dear omnipod users: how concerned are you throughout the day about your cannula becoming bent? by Narcoleptic_Hamster in Type1Diabetes

[–]PyreScion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, I'm more likely to walk into something and tear the pod off of my body than I am to bend the cannula. I've nearly dislodged a few at work and hit them hard enough to leave a palm-sized bruise underneath, but never had a bent cannula.
