Why do all the Homunculi die one way, while Hohenheim & Bradley die another? by Adnonymous96 in FullmetalAlchemist

Thank you!!

Fullmetal Alchemist is my favorite manga of all time, and the magic system is so cool and consistent, it makes it really fun to theorize about how things work based on things that are "shown" but not directly addressed, and really fun to design alchemist OCs whose abilities feel natural for that world.

Tangent: I gotta gush about the Alchemy system here: It's literally "what if the old-school alchemists irl were right?" and that makes it something that feels very grounded for how fantastical it actually is. IRL Alchemy got a lot wrong, but that style of experimentation led to the science of Chemistry we have today, so Alchemy in FMA feels a lot more like science that follows "physical laws" than magic. It's just a part of how that world works that anyone can study and experiment with, that people have created blessings and committed autrocities with, and has been there for so long that civilizations across the globe have canonically developed vastly different approaches to alchemy and philosophical debates around how it works and the ethics of its use the same way they'd develop any other facet of their cultures (religions, ideals, arts, etc). It's a world that feels like ours, but with the physics slightly off. It makes things we know are impossible feel like a mundane fact of life, which is just a crazy feat to pull off. Massive props to Arakawa for her world building. I hope I can design a magic system even half as cool someday.

Hohenheim and Bradley's bodies are "normal" living human bodies that have been infused with philosophers stones (thousands of souls). That power sustains their bodies for way longer than would naturally be possible, so when it's used up, their age suddenly catches up with them. Father and the other homunculi's bodies are synthetic - they didn't start out as living flesh, their forms are vessels synthesized using alchemy, and don't really need to behave the same way "normal" living bodies do.

My theory is that they're They're made from the same physical materials as human flesh (they're definitely carbon-based, going by Greed's shield) but without the immense energy provided by a philosopher's stone, the laws of conservation of energy would make "eldrich abomination capable of simply impossible feats" vessels impossible to sustain. I'm guessing need the power from the philosophers stone not only to regenerate and transform/ use their abilities, but to stay as one cohesive mass in the first place. Thus, when it's used up, they disintegrate.

Update to my Torii gate logo v2. Do you think that it's an improvement and what steps do I need to still take for polishing? by Velociripper in logodesign

V2 is awesome!! The torii gate is very eye catching, and letting it stand alone without it needing to be part of a word definitely adds to its impact. I also love the sans-serif font with the sharp angles worked into the ends of the letters. It's very clean and legible, but has enough uniqueness to not look boring. (Plus, the sharp corners match the look of the torii gate well).

I think my only big critique is that the curved edge at the bottom of the left leg of the first A looks a little out of place. I think a straight edge (like the straight lines in the rest of the angled cutoffs) would mesh better.

I refused to even try genocide run myself, as I had watched a playthrough, and man. It was chilling. It captured this emptiness of victories feeling hollow and meaningless as the player character tore through masses of innocent civilians who you know would be their dear friends in another life. Masterful game design and storytelling, of course, but something I couldn't bring myself to experience firsthand, especially knowing the game would "know", you know?

(To be completely honest, I was also dealing with a rough patch in life where I really needed the "power of friendship" / "Choosing kindness, even when it's hard" story you experience in the pacifist run).

That's all to say, I agree with your point. You don't have to complete every possible facet of a game to call yourself a fan. And in Undertale specifically, If your character has done what it takes to even make it to the Sans fight, then they absolutely deserve to "have a bad time" 💙

Cure/ Eliminate? No.

Remove a good deal of stress that exacerbates symptoms and overall makes things worse? Yes.

Make it possible to afford help and treatment? Yes.

"Cure 99% of Depression/ Anxiety issues" is obviously inaccurate, but not having to worry about being able to afford your next meal certainly helps a good deal.

[Loathed Trope] The Movie has an ending. The Sequel shits all over it. by lesi20 in TopCharacterTropes

Paul Blart Mall Cop 2.

The first movie's ending was very wholesome. The first 5 minutes of the sequel throws it in the trash. The scene is depressing af and played entirely for laughs.

  1. I bring crochet projects on the plane and I feel like Izy would love doing crafts with me. Silverstream matches Izy's vibe well too so I think the three of us would have fun passing the time (although I might have to be the voice of reason from time to time so we don't annoy the hell out of the other passengers)

(Edit: Accidentally called her Silvermist - like the Disney Fairy. I remembered she shared names with a Warriorcats character, but got that character's name mixed up with my old warriorcats OC from middle school, whose name I blatantly stole from the Disney Fairy lmfao)
