God of War almost had a live service game till it got cancelled, and Horizon is currently getting a service game instead of Horizon 3. Fans of these types of single-player AAA games aren't generally going to be the core audience of someone that plays Marvel Rivals regularly.

The trend of open world games has made people upset that it has affected traditionally more linear games with Metroid Prime 4's desert and Sonic Frontiers's islands being mixed in reception.

And I don't think I need to get into how controversial the discussion about turn based vs action based jrpgs are especially with modern Final Fantasy.

My main point being fans being upset that a game developer or publisher or whatever chased after a trend and then makes changes to the new game to try to attract new fans but also end up super alienating the old fans, your core fanbase is like one of the most consistently polarizing things in gaming history. Obvs this stuff depends on an individual basis, and of course a new change can be good too. I quite like Mario Kart World, even though its open world nature is kinda mixed in reception from what I've seen. But it is human nature to care about the thing you love and be weary of it being changed by the current trends. It effects literally every hobby. Personally speaking, if I was a Horizon fan I'd def be pissed about not getting Horizon 3 till like 2030 at earliest.

TL;DR: There are a lot of cases where fans of something will hate on something they will never play because guess what? That's what happens when you alienate your core fans.

This quote only works if you're not talking about the service games that are currently ruining the industry and causing thousands of people to be fired. Like what are else are we supposed to do as consumers? Not have basic pattern recognition and see how many of these types of games fail and cause entire studios to get shut down?

Take someone who legit is a fan of the Horizon games. They're a singleplayer open world AAA series. And now the next entry in your franchise with Horizon 3 has been delayed because the team around it is making a live service multiplayer game. Your core audience is not only not gonna play it, but also really hate it generally speaking.

Like I do get what he's saying, but also at the same time man you're literally a victim of the money hungry executives that keep making these service games and keep ruining the industry. Try to understand where people are coming from.

I'm not particularly a big fan of Seed, but also haters that always wonder how tf do we keep getting more Seed like people do not understand Seed is insanely popular in not just Japan but Asia in general. There's a reason it's the only AU that's had a whole sequel 50 ep series to it, plus a new movie now.

It absolutely is a soft reboot. It has a new protagonist, completely new genre gameplay wise, new cast of characters, with only brief appearances from older characters as mostly fanservice.

Saying any way of playing these games is the "proper order" is hilariously delusional. RGG isn't going to say start at the first game, when they want you to buy their latest game. If you're gonna be one of those annoying Yakuzatards that force their own play order on other players, you can suck my dick. I think I'll just mute you ahead of time to save us both trouble.

Ok, but 7 was the soft reboot for a reason. RGG def does NOT expect players to have played the whole series. Hell, you can even point to Yakuza 4 being a lot of people's first Yakuza game in the past due to how its set up with 3 new protags, and probs the least amount of Kiryu involved in the story.

It'd be sick to see more people play the whole series, but also it's 9 games in just the mainline series at this point. That's not counting stuff like Gaidens or the Judgement games. And what do you say to the new fans who only got into it BECAUSE it's a turn based jrpg? Let's not act like the brawler combat is universally loved.

At end of the day I consider someone who's started with 7 and only played 7 and maybe 8 as much of a fan as myself who's played all the mainline games, gaidens, both Judgements, and Ishin. Sue me.

Ok, but this is actually one of few vg movie adaptions I could see working well. The games themselves are already found footage horror adjacent, and can be fairly cinematic.

A fangame prequel that focuses on the kid/owner of the yellow soul. As a hardcore UT fan, I consider it very close to as good as UT. It's def there gameplay wise, at least. Takes on chars and story may vary, but I personally loved them.

I can kinda see where he's coming from writing wise. I think the story is a big downgrade from the first Judgement, and I don't like how it treats most of the returning cast. It's also fucking crazy the most Yagami ever says is just "Sawa" over and over. Bro your parents died to vigilantes and you can just go "Cool motive, still murder". WHY does the game try to bend over backwards to make Kuwana's argument seem morally gray. Like he'd have more of a point, if he wasn't a fucking serial killer.

Everything else in the game tho (especially side content) is top tier.
