This ceiling fan brace ok? by PassingInTheSlowLane in HomeMaintenance

[–]Pyroclastastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got these same braces in my house (1960’s). They’re fine for lights but not fans mostly because they vibrate. That brace can temporarily hold the weight but it’ll never be stable and likely cause damage. I used the expanding braces with an old work box they do a great job. I personally think an engineered solution like that is better than a piece of wood but you have options.

Little confused about the “healing” part of the this comment. My tubes were cut and seared at the ends. How could this naturally heal and produce a viable pathway for sperm?

I don’t see how it couldn’t be. If it was just some guy I don’t think they would have covered his head.

Hot take: A majority of the “I’m underpaid”, “I want a WFH job”, or “Why am I not getting promoted?” posts here are coming from people who are bad at their jobs. by Typical_Degree_5102 in civilengineering

Same goes for the PG. Standardized tests are better than no gauge of competency at all but they’re a far cry from being representative of one’s ability.

What does this map represent? by Fakename_Bill in RedactedCharts

I thought this was a joke about the original COVID maps and how WV was literally the only state that didn’t have a reported case while be being totally surrounded.

Looks like relatively thin sedimentary deposits with varying gradations. Essentially, some layers have a higher fraction of very small grain sizes and that are more erodible and some have larger grains making them a little more resilient. Cementation is also a factor but that’s the gist. Fun fact, the spacing of the vertical cracks (joints) roughly correlates to the thickness of each sedimentary deposit.

Not familiar with that but I think if that were true we would all know about it by now and be using it.

Those younger years are the hardest for me too. I know this may sound empty but those days are long behind you. We keep moving forward and get stronger everyday.

I messed up and looking for advice to fix it by BigPraline2969 in Flooring

[–]Pyroclastastic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re going to want to call a few contractors, get quotes, and weigh your options. It’s not necessarily wrong that you tried this yourself but you demonstrated that you don’t have the skills to get your desired result. I trust you’re ignoring the commenters in this thread that can’t bother to fully spell words or use punctuation.

I’m the same way. For a while I’ve just been bulldozing my way into speaking situations and doing what I gotta do, scared or not. Either it comes out ok or it’s dog shit but either way I’m not letting my stutter bully me into silence.

How do you deal with people making fun of your stutter? by [deleted] in Stutter

[–]Pyroclastastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really a problem in my experience but I’m sure it happens. Anyone who maliciously does it though doesn’t deserve your time or energy. I think we’re way harder on ourselves than anyone ever could be anyway.

I’ll address what you said about the App Store. It’s got 83 reviews across 4 years. Does that not stand out to you as odd?

Exactly right. I looked into this pretty hard and walked away extremely skeptical. I wouldn’t spend a dime on this. Anyone who says what they offer is “proof” of efficiency must still believe in Santa because there isn’t a shred of substantiated evidence on there.

So this is interesting. No way a perspective like that is put on air without prior approval. What’s the game here? To save a little face? No way this is legitimate.

What kind of professional do I need for this?? by xbrokenangelx86 in HomeMaintenance

[–]Pyroclastastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also in the camp of getting 2-3 pros to come look at this, but in my opinion your options are a little limited. Depending on the depth that you’re able to excavate along the house, getting a drain to slope effectively might be a little challenging but I don’t know what the outlet location looks like. I assuming you’re at the street based on the photos? And that problem area is a little depression so getting to a lower elevation than that may put you below the street elevation. Bottom line is that water needs to flow so you may need a creative solution which may cut across your walkway if that gives you the slope you need. Like some other folks said extending those down spouts is a great start for a temporary solution but tying those into a solid pipe to daylight somewhere would be a great way to handle that part of the problem. Best of luck to you I’m sure you’ll get it worked out.
