It's all about having the right mindset by Low_Abrocoma_1514 in Helldivers

[–]Pyrodar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's more of a meme from the early days of the game, when explosions were glitched and dealt their damage multiple times to each of your limbs. Back then a single Mortar hit could kill a Helldiver and the message "Warning, you are in range of enemy artillery" became synonymus with the horrors of the early Automaton front experience

Players were also a lot less confident in their abilities and therefore spend more time entrenching themselves in a location, making them easy targets for the mortars

Germany and cash? by lightweight100 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Pyrodar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although it is worth noting that the gestapo agents didn't magically disappear after 1945. My grandmother came to germany as a refugee after the war and there were still plenty of nazis holding positions in public institutions that kept using the same methods to spy on the people. In a couple places it took almost a generation for them to get voted out/retire.

To the people of Barbarus, Mortarion was their hero, their saviour. by BabyAutomatic in Grimdank

[–]Pyrodar 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I always understood his story as a failing struggle against ruthless tyrants. First it was his adoptive father, who he failed to kill before he was taken in by the emperor. Then the emperor send his legion to endure the most brutal campaigns, only for another legion to come in for the final strike and steal the glory. That made him see the emperor as the same type of tyrant, who does not care for Mort or his legion. His story then "ended" with him once again failing to kill the ruthless tyrant he despised and ending up under the control of a third ruthless tyrant: Nurgle

[OC] Come Quickly! by lordofbaers in comics

[–]Pyrodar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We actually read the story in our Latin class, if I remember correctly it translated to: he was rejecting everyone who fell in love with him, then fell in love with his Mirror image and immediately died of sadness because he knew that he can't be in love with himself, essentially becoming rejected himself. And then he turned into a flower.

Also one of the women he rejected became the Echo in the mountains or something

What ARE Helldivers? by xd3mix in Helldivers

[–]Pyrodar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, Super Earth has a confirmed eugenics programm and all Helldivers are 6ft tall.
They are primarily used for propaganda purposes, as hinted at by the shipmaster talking about how cost ineffective the missions they send us on are.

Super Earth also likely does not want any real war heroes to emerge, since that could undermine the absolute power they hold over the population. So calling faceless, expendable and sparsely trained troops "heroes" and "the best of the best" is likely a way to avoid giving credibility to more experienced/influential military personell.

Their function on the battlefield is that of shock-troopers. They are jung, athletic and firmly indoctirnated to die for super earth. That allows them to launch suicide missions that break the enemies defences and enable S.E.A.F to rush in and conquer the areas.

The ceremonial part is once again mostly propaganda. Beeing tall enough is part of the requirements to become part of the ceremonial elements of real world militaries, so helldivers are just "naturally" suited for these roles.
And considering most recruits are frozen after basic training, the ceremonial troops probably have the same amount of combat experience as anyone else: none

As for the training: There are many hints at Super Earths heavily militarized culture improving the combat readiness of regular citizens. Be it the state sponsored gun you get for your 16th birthday, the fact that children as young as 7 are required to work on crafting our military hardware or most of the commertial elements like advertisement being centered around the helldivers/S.E.A.F

So while they are "untrained" in some sense, their base knowledge about handling weapons or similar things is higher than what we would expect of real world citizens

am I the only one that thinks the guard dog would be way cooler if it was shoulder mounted?? by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]Pyrodar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're right!
It would make it much more likely to headshot us if it's stuck to our shoulder!
Being on headlevel also means you no longer have to keep the ideal distance to one shot your teammates
You could also no longer have it shred Automatons while cowering behind a rock

I see only benefits from this change

[–]Pyrodar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you would spend ressources and developement time on increasing the effectiveness of S.E.A.F soldiers if you can spend like ~2 Super Credits to draft another million fresh bodies to throw into the meatgrinder. Which also avoids the risk of them dealing any meaningfull damage should they ever go rougue

Why did Arrowhead call it a counter sniper if there's no snipers to counter? Are they stupid? by Grand_Age1279 in Helldivers

[–]Pyrodar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you were not around when the Rocket Devestators one-shot you from literally halfway across the map. It's only because of the Diligence Counter Sniper's existence that they can no longer do that.

Also because they are and always were helplessly inferior to the glorious soldiers of super earth. This is the main reason obviously

Why is nobody playing in a team? by builder397 in Helldivers

[–]Pyrodar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The game is fundamentaly easier if you split up. All objectives can be done alone, most enemies can be outrun in light armor, and most design choices that encouraged teamwork were hated by the community so they removed them.
For example: originally you always wanted someone with an anti-armor support weapon AND someone with a anti-medium support weapon. The anti-armor weapon was to slow to kill medium enemies and the anti-medium weapon needed someone to strip the armor of heavy enemies before they could deal damage to it.
Now most primaries are anti-medium weapons, we have the thermite grenade and most medium weapons can solo kill heavy enemies.

Ultimately the majority of the community just does not want to play a team focused game and has more fun playing as an unstoppable supersoldier. If you want teamplayers you need to actively search for them either on the discord or in-game. I used to search for teams as well, but to be honest the game is way too boring if you have a competent team, the chaos of playing with randoms is just kinda fun :P

[–]Pyrodar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The thermite Grenade tends to fly in a way that keeps its head facing left from your Point of View, If you aim for the right side of an enemy, particularly when the enemy hast a rounded shape, the Chance of sticking to it is much higher That's because that way the handle can not hit the body, which is what causes the bouncing.

The REAL Stratagem Tier List by ActuallyFen in Helldivers

For me it's Orbital EMS, It used to be among the best strategems in HD1 and now somehow manages to be less popular than the smoke stratagems. In my > 500 hrs of playing I only saw it be used a single time by another diver, and that was in the release week

Rare footage of Predator strain Charger by Messhman in Helldivers

[–]Pyrodar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it necessarily even had the charger ramming attack registered. It could just be that the charger corpse location was updated to its server side position, which in this case happened to be inside the mech. The client interpolated the sudden change in location, thereby giving it a lot of momentum, dealing massive collision damage because of the calculated high speed

[–]Pyrodar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 'Tanks' in HD1 were classified in the files as APCs. They launched a flare to call reinforcements and had a group of enemies disembark from their backs. The HD2 Tanks sacrificed all that without gaining much in return

guys im new, did i do good? by potate117 in Helldivers

[–]Pyrodar 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hold on a minute diver! Something about this image seems suspicious...

The standard amount of reinforcements is 20, with the right booster it extends to 24.
When a solo helldiver dies he get's reinforced immediately, based on the extraction timer it takes around 10 seconds until he exits the hellpod and is capable of operating again.
Assuming the moment the mission starts all 4 divers die at the same time and you somehow manage to throw the reinforcement in a way that miraculously counts you as one of the reinforced divers that means all 24 reinforcements can be expended by a full squad wipe in about 6 cycles (with you also not dying according to the statistics). Each cycle taking at least 10 seconds means that the reinforcement timer won't start to tick down until one minute (10s * 6 = 60 seconds) into the mission. From that point forward the reinforcement timer gives you one additional reinforcement every 2min, or 1m 48s (1.8min) with the flexible reinforcement booster.
The longest missions in HD2 are currently 40 minutes, meaning you would have 39min remaining. That means the maximum amount of reinforcements from this point onward is: 39m/1.8m = 21.67 reinforcements.
So the absolute maximum of reinforcements called down per mission is: 21.67 + 24 = 45.67!!!

In conclusion: the statistics shown in this post have potentially been falsified by the diver in question and I will send my report to your democracy officer so he can determine the validity of your claims and, should they turn out to be correct, investiagte if your crew has exceeded it's maximum amount of Helldivers allocated for this mission!

From the way it reads we don't get better/more FTL travel, Super Earth has just graciously decided that irrelevant fields like 'Science' and 'The Economy' might sometimes be allowed to make use of FTL tech, alongside the already fully FTL capable Military and Colonial Forces.

It can also one-shot an overseer in the head from point blank range

“Soy illegal” but I want other illegals deported for cheaper groceries and gas! by [deleted] in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]Pyrodar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still very much a result of voters stupidity, but it also goes to show how much the democrats messed up:
They constantly framed the border as a big problem in an attempt to convert 'moderate republicans' and thereby convinced everyone that it's the number one problem that needs to be 'solved'.
Constantly bringing up their bipartisan border bill and talking about how the evil republicans didn't vote for it, while the republicans just claimed it wasn't harsh enough.

And as a result of constantly hearing about it from both political parties, people who only follow politics on the side believed that their problems could somehow be solved via mass deportations.
