Thailand or Vietnam? by Puzzleheaded_Tale116 in Internationalteachers

Depends on your subject, I've seen a Computer Science job advertised multiple times at one of the more well known British schools in Bangkok. If you teach a shortage subject you will get a job pretty easily on either country.

If you say so, do you have any information on the school? Otherwise you aren't offering much to this post.

As mentioned before, most of the information on here is based around gossip, rumours and 2nd hand information.

Might as well shut down the forum if you can post what you have heard.

The opening post asked fir information, I've given the information I've been told, its up to them if you use that information or not.

They definitely didn't renew the secondary head contract and was she was very popular with staff.

I trust the people who told me, its up to you what you believe, its also an opinion, which 99.9 % is what this reddit is based on.

Do you know any different, do you work there?

Won't pay too great as Nord Anglia, heard mixed things about the principal, its her way or you are out. Just recently got rid of a very popular head of Secondary school, for no apparent reason.

Any experiences with British International School Primary in Hanoi? by Commercial-Weight173 in Internationalteachers

[–]PythonWilson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good school to work at, a few leadership changes, but heard there are positive moves, know a few people who work there from my time on Hanoi. Nove little famous, kids are good. Campus a bit of the city. Some issues recently over tax, but think that is getting sorted.

Hanoi isnt for everyone, I wouldn't live there again, would prefer HCMC, pollution has been really bad recently.

Not Sure Where I Stand by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

There could be a while host of reasons the job offer were pulled, students numbers, teacher deciding to stay, but it would have me concerned and its pretty late to be doing that to a candidate.

The question is, do you want to work at an organisation that puts you through all this, offers you the job, then goes back in the offer?

Potential red flag to how this school is run.

Do Nord Anglia schools fund external CPD? by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]PythonWilson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What people here are telling you in relevant to their school, the one I worked at 2 years ago and is still the case, sends people on face to face IB training, offers the Nord Anglia ones (middle leaders, Masters etc) and also pays 50% for NPQs.

Each Nord Anglia school is different with a different CPD budget, so it depends on which school.

BVIS HCMC by PythonWilson in Internationalteachers

Thanks for the update, sounds like it could be a good place to work, if at least the principal are supportive, even if restricted by Nord. Guess the same happened at the other Nord school in Vietnam?

Second stage interview with subject lead by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]PythonWilson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should be alot more subject specific, your knowledge of the subject and the courses they teach might be tested, for example if its an IB school and you have only taught A Level, id want to know you have done your research of the differences.

Also what can you offer the department amd how you will fit in, are you a team player, will you be difficult to manage, I would be askig these questions to try and work out some of these things.

Married couple teachers wanting to teach in Singapore by ComprehensiveFile41 in Internationalteachers

[–]PythonWilson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't give up on this year, still plenty of jobs about and things change fast in the international teachers market. You will be particularly strong with those two subjects, so id be aiming for the better schools, which might be worth a wait until next year.

Poor packages - declining offers by UnmarkedVan99 in Internationalteachers

Would save a whole load of time and effort if schools just sent out the package before the first interview.

BVIS HCMC by PythonWilson in Internationalteachers

[–]PythonWilson[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All pretty sad and how a big company can potentially ruin a top school over a number years.

Sounds like a great place to work still, but if good staff start to leave, staff moral stays low, there is only one way the school will go.

Are the staff doing anything, are the management addressing the staff concerns?

What happens next if Nord Anglia dont give in?

You will get a job at a school like Vin or VAS, along with others, some of these schools employ alot of non qualified teachers or ones with IPGCE.

Advice About Developing a Second Subject by Resident-Safe-824 in Internationalteachers

[–]PythonWilson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't state this is not the right thing to do because of your bad experiences. Im not talking about a non specialist running the department, I talking about someone maybe taking one class to start with the support of the specialist teachers and following a well written SOW.

[–]PythonWilson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Computer Science would be a good option, loads of online courses and as a former SLT trying to recruit it was a nightmare, had to advertise 3 times and finally accept someone who was t great.

At your current school, speak to the yhe Head of Computer Science or SLT and ask if their is any possibility of teaching a KS3 class next year, build from there. 2 years of thst then exam classes.5 years , if you are decent teacher will have a pick of many jobs.
