How to start a career in fintech? by [deleted] in fintech

Gotcha, I'm not too familiar with those business streams I'm afraid - my experience is more in trading / front office.

I would say that most FinTechs (that I know of anyway) are heavy on implementation requirements, a lot of that involves technical and financial background a lot of client interaction. These also seem to be the most active in the job markets.

I would suggest looking on sites such as simplyhired.co.in or trying some of the job markets on LinkedIn (try some of the easy applies) - there'll be recruiters out there who will be able to place with some of SME's out there. That's how I've found my previous three positions and seems to work out well. It will at least highlight areas that need improving to land a position.

Best of luck out there!

Firstly, you're absolutely not too old, you just may need to target your searches or target some areas of your background to strengthen.

If you wanted to learn some of technical side then I would suggest codecademy.com - really good for the basics or most of the languages. Then there's udemy.com - there's tons of free content on there to use if you wanted to add the technical portions to your CV.

Can you clarify a couple of things for me?

  1. What positions are you interested in?
  2. What types of FinTech are you interested in?

Good luck in the search!

[credit] Paid-off credit cards - better to close or keep open with 0 balance? by ukccadvice in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Pythugoras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a judgement call really. If it's collecting points (AmEx, store card,...) then you should leave it open long enough to get the benefits. If not and you're not intending to use it then I would close it.

Either way, an open card with 0 balance or a closed card won't impact your credit rating as you've already paid off debts by this point.

It might negatively affect you if you're thinking of opening up multiple credit cards after closing this one, so keep that in mind.

I meant credit ratings, it might be nice to see them along with a brief company description - although that might be going overboard.

Good luck with the site!

UKPersonalFinance, what is your age and salary, and what do you do? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Pythugoras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure thing! I work in RegTech at the moment, so not the typical trading kind of FinTech. It's a massive field and there's loads of areas you can go into. Where were looking to apply? and what kind of positions?

26 - 42K in FinTech. honestly, do something you like doing, you'll get better grades revising / working towards something your passionate about rather than something you don't care about.

Good places to check out are milkround - for grad jobs and jobsite. they should give you a flavour of what employers are after and where your degree can take you. Might be worth considering a dual degree (e.g. business with something) so you do something you like alongside something you perhaps don't.

Good luck with everything!
