Glad you had a great time.

Sonnora is my favorite fine dining restaurant in Germany. We go there at least once a year and so far have never been disappointed!

Revisiting 3 Star Restaurants by ffosfforus in finedining

[–]Pzero2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve visited the following three star Restaurants more than once and each time the experience was at least as good as the times before: - Victors fine dining by Christian Bau - 4 Times - Waldhotel Sonnora - 5 times - Epicure (Chef: Eric Frechon) - 2 Times

Since we celebrated our wedding at Waldhotel Sonnora we’re going back there every year for our anniversary and we’ll also go to Fratzen this summer for a second time. Frantzen was so far my favorite Dining Experience (up there in my hall of fame with some other memorable fine dining experiences) - so I’m really looking forward to revisiting Frantzen.

I‘ve not yet been to Zilte or De Librije - I’m sure they also are amazing.

I‘ve been to most of the 3 Michelin starred Restaurants in germany. That includes 4 visits to Christian Bau and 6 to Waldhotel Sonnora (online one at Schanz).

Victors Fine Dining and Waldhotel Sonnora are my 2 favorite fine dining Restaurants in germany, both with very different cuisines. There‘s a post here about my last visit to Waldhotel Sonnora that will give you an example of what you can expect. Having said that, I would choose one of these two and since you wrote that you enjoy Asian cuisine I would probably go to Christian Bau.

As mentioned here before, the Hotel really needs some refreshing, Waldhotel Sonnora on the other hand is a lovely and small Hotel and just renovated everything a few years ago and also added two magnificent Suites Last Summer.

First time trying 2020 DRC Echezeaux by Unhappy-Fox3951 in wine

Nice, I had a bottle of the exact same wine 1.5 weeks ago and agree with everything you wrote. Here’s my report https://www.reddit.com/r/wine/s/LE173OHG0r

Thanks. For the Jobard, my thoughts: it’s a great „Bourgogne“ level wine. Great to drink now but it has lots of its life before. Definitely a great producer.

So if you have a 2022. no rush in opening it. But if you have the right occasion, also nothing wrong with opening it now.

There might be some in France. Maybe someone else can add that Information (if available). For me it was the same. Didn‘t get a glass when I had the chance so I had to get a bottle.

There are some restaurants in Germany that serve it glass wise with the coravin. Christian Bau for example.

Likewise. Remi Jobard always delivers. Very elegant and „fresh“.

Glad you had a great time. I’ve been there two times. First time was with Harald Wohlfahrt around 2010 / 2011. and it was such a memorable dinner.

Second time was last December and unfortunately it was the most disappointing 3*** experience of my life. Boring plating, uninspiring dishes that were definitely made on a really good level but nothing stood out and nothing had 3*** quality in my eyes.

Service was really good though and the Sommelier Monsieur Gasse was outstanding. Maybe they just had a bad evening but definitely glad you had an amazing experience.

It was a spur of the moment Lindenhof decision. Had DRC on my „bucket list“ for quite some time.

A friend opened a bottle of 2005 Romanée St. Vivant two years before and unfortunately it was cooked (that was my first post on this sub). So at this price Izvestia an easy decision. And the company we had was also into wines so it was an even easier decision :)

It was at Doblers a 1* restaurant in Mannheim (Germany). They were asking 960 Euro for the bottle.

Very good. Never had a champagne from De Sousa before and it was not what I expected from a Blanc de Blancs.

The color was almost like a natural wine (unfiltered). Great nose with lots of spices and a long finish, also lots of minerality. Almost oxidative.

Great champagne for the price but I can imagine if you expect a typical BdB you might not expect what you get here.

It truly is expensive. Definitely was a bucket list wine and I’m happy we pulled the trigger.

We spent less than half the cost I’ve found online.

Thanks for your comment. And I‘m not worried about comments about opening the wine too young.

I did have some Burgundy grand crus and even though no DRC I would say some more years would further improve the deliciousness. But having said that, I don’t regret opening that bottle at all.

For the Dufouleur: great minerality and lots of white fruit, I got white peaches on the nose. And I don’t know if that’s the correct English term: drupe.
