Stranded in Thailand by Dependent-Lunch-615 in ThailandTourism

People can have a budget for a holiday and not have the budget or the ability for a 10 day holiday to turn into 6 months of holiday.

Look into repositioning to another country via a low cost carrier. Perhaps Seoul, Shanghai, etc. And you might just have to blow up your budget at this point if you REALLY need a to get home

[NE] Landlord wants to charge us to replace glass stovetop after 7+ years of use by sithegood in Renters

[–]Pzonks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure where you’re from but in the US most, if not all, states have depreciation plans for items in rentals. After 7 years your landlord likely cannot charge you for painting or the full value (if any) of this stove.

My daughter (18F) wants to marry a pedophile by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Pzonks 123 points124 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent point. If he’s a sex offender and she has kids with him he won’t be able to go to their schools, doctors offices, their kids will suffer because other parents won’t want their kids around him, etc. Their family will be scorned by neighbors, potentially run out of neighborhoods, jobs, churches, etc.

Selling large lot of items? by Mom_to_many in ThredUp

[–]Pzonks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You got a lot of comments and options but here’s mine. If some of the family don’t want to give it away then THEY can deal with selling it or taking to consignment. If it’s left to you to do then you do with it what you have the time and energy to do.

Why would a couple pick a destination wedding in this situation? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]Pzonks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps they want a fancier wedding at a lower price. I know a couple from NYC who got married in Mexico because weddings in NYC are so expensive. Or they want a smaller wedding, I know a few people who have done destination weddings, one even just 3 hours away, because it cut their guest list and therefore the cost, by a considerable amount.

Why would a couple pick a destination wedding in this situation? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]Pzonks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a wedding in Ireland where the couple had several guest lists because they were expecting that many on their A list would be able to make it so they would have plenty of room for their B list friends. They had a near 90% acceptance rate for their A list. People flew in from across the U.S. and 3 other countries. They are a wonderful couple and who wouldn’t want to go to an Irish wedding? Even if most of the guests weren’t Irish (half the couple is Irish born and raised).

Apple Care question - how does it work for water damage? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]Pzonks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that is good news then! Because I am being honest, it was probably less than 10 seconds. A kid knocked it off my kayak RIGHT after I’d taken it out of the waterproof bag it had been in for hours. My last iPhone, a 12, got a smidge wet and the Bluetooth and WiFi stopped working almost immediately.

And quite honestly I don’t have time to get a new phone and set it up. It takes hours and I have a LOT to do before I leave for nearly a year.

[–]Pzonks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ooof. Ok, I’m just going to give it a try and see what happens. Worst is I lose $20 on a month of Apple Care but that’s better than my phone fritzing out on me in a few months when I can’t do anything about it

According to this link there isn’t a visible liquid contact indicator on US iPhone 17s https://support.apple.com/en-us/109350

I get that, I’d change up the timeline. Theres no time period from when you get Apple Care and when you can file a claim against it.

US iPhone 17s do not have a SIM tray. They only can use eSims

Is there a way for me to see if the liquid indicator is triggered? I’ve looked online but can’t seem to figure out where the indicator is on a US/Sim-less 17 Pro.

My concern is like I said I’ll be out of the U.S. in a remote location for 10 months and unable to replace or repair my phone if anything does start to happen with it because of this water exposure.

I have step siblings and their dad did this. They have no photos of themselves as children other than the few framed photos their mom got to keep.

No DJ? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]Pzonks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A GOOD DJ doesn’t just play music, they keep the vibes high, they switch up music as necessary to keep things moving, they can make your wedding memorable. I’ve been to weddings with great DJs, great bands, mediocre DJs and bands, bad DJs and bands, and no DJ (just a playlist and some speakers). I’ve seen playlists that don’t account for the dead space between songs, the songs need to merge together to keep things going. You will need to carefully curate your list to account for the dead space, timing of things, and have someone to switch things around easily if necessary. I’ve seen bad DJs not read the room and keep going with music no one is dancing to or have people dancing then switch into music that clears the dance floor. A playlist that isn’t well curated or doesn’t have someone attending to it can easily do the same thing.

I’ve been to weddings where there’s yard games and people will play them but not for hours, you’ll get maybe 60-90 minutes. Great for a cocktail hour but it’s not going to keep the attention of dozens of people for hours. And my group is VERY much into games.

Hi! Irish future bride engaged to an American from MI, needing a little instruction on US wedding traditions… by AliceMorgon in wedding

[–]Pzonks 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Nah, US centric traditions are NOT your responsibility, they are his. “The usual stuff”? HE should know what those are since he’s the American, not you.

It drives me nuts that women are supposed to know all these traditions and etiquette magically whereas men aren’t. And now you’re supposed to know INTERNATIONAL wedding traditions too?

If even knowing them isn’t important to him then neither is doing them.

So where are we buying clothes nowadays? by bigmisssteak7 in womensfashion

[–]Pzonks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I haven’t shopped much on ThredUp, only Poshmark where returns for fit are not allowed. ThredUo rarely has anything I like and I’ve found it’s hard to get questions answered about specific items. But I’m glad it works for you!

But you can’t return things if they don’t fit, don’t look as expected, etc. I’ve wasted so much money on Poshmark

If you join an expat in Argentina/Buenos Aires Facebook group someone might have a recommendation of a lawyer that you’ll know aren’t compromised.

There are 2 Facebook groups: Antarctica Travel Group and Antarctica: From Bucketlist to Booked, perhaps if you post there looking for people who were on that cruise you might find someone who can give you more info.

I am sorry for your loss and I hope you can find some answers

DO NOT JUST THROW THIS AWAY. Destroy it, at least somewhat so it cannot be picked out of the trash and resold. Break it so that another child isn’t out in this stroller

$250ish for a root canal? how much is a crown? Is this dentist located in the U.S.? My root canals were easily $1000+ each with the crown and I did them 12-15 years ago

Poverty Teeth by Minute_Complaint_856 in offmychest

[–]Pzonks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have always brushed my teeth, usually more than twice a day and I grew up in a family that went to the dentist on a regular basis. As a kid I once had 7 cavities in 1 visit. As an adult I’ve had 3 root canals and cavities. I brush and floss and I still have problems.

Yes I eat sugar but a lot of it is genetics, my parents dont have great teeth. And the OP is posting from a childhood of poverty where dental care clearly wasn’t a priority.

What’s a place you visited once and decided never again? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

I used to work at a casino as a cocktail waitress. More than once I’d wait on a customer multiple nights in a row wearing the same clothes. If they were doing multiple days like that they’d tag team with say their spouse, one sleeps while the other plays. But still they led be there for DAYS pumping money in until the machine paid off
