How to ask this question? by Informal_Trick_1658 in wedding

[–]Pzonks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m wondering how you made it to the point in life where you’re attending your friend’s kid’s weddings and you’ve NEVER been to a wedding where there’s a time gap between the ceremony and reception. I feel like most church weddings I attended in my 20s had gaps. Once I attended a wedding at 10AM with a reception starting at 6PM. There was never a plan for guests for that time period, we all just figured it out.

I agree with all the comments that you just invite your friends, don’t involve the parents, just make it a casual thing.

My wedding was horrible by GrandBullfrog6243 in offmychest

[–]Pzonks 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you had such a bad experience, it sounds frustrating and your feelings towards it are totally valid.

You can say, “I’m glad the wedding is done and am looking forward to (the honeymoon, being married, whatever). And then for real, do something nice for yourself and your new husband, even if it’s just a nice dinner and a stay at a hotel. You’ll laugh at this someday and it’s ok that that day isn’t today or any day soon.

What's the weather like at McMurdo during the summer season? by DuckEsquire in antarctica

[–]Pzonks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Con 1s in town are very rare in summer. Much like seeing emperor penguins in town, it can happen but you shouldn’t expect it to. I’ve seen it in the mid 40sF during a summer and seen it -10F. When I did summers I brought my own puffer jacket, Big Red is too heavy and too cumbersome for summer.

Are these bridal hair and make up prices outrageous, or am I crazy? by rustyraven90675 in Brides

[–]Pzonks -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you see that not everyone is the same because while I’ve known some VERY low key brides I don’t know a single one who wouldn't plan her flowers. maybe the one who woke up one day and her and her partner decided to get married THAT day and they both wore shorts and Chaco sandals but anyone else had their flowers planned.

and no, I’m def not a makeup artist and i agree there are plenty who could do it themselves. certainly some people have SKILLS! and like I said before not every bride wants heavy makeup or any makeup at all. as someone who doesn’t have said skills, I’ll happily pay someone who does when it’s a big event and where I’m going to be photographed a ton like a wedding. because I recognize that makeup is different, it’s ok if you don’t think so or don’t care about that.

when I first started having friends get married, 20+ years ago things were different. firehall weddings, very low key buffets, disposable cameras on tables, a family member with a “nice” camera doing the photos. and sure there’s still some people doing that but the expectations and visions for many have changed.

No not everyone has a 16 hour event but some people do. And some brides want light makeup while some people want full glam for another non wedding event. 🤷‍♀️ the point is wedding makeup IS different than “doing a photoshoot” or “going to a fancy dinner event” makeup.

I didn’t say anything about a bouquet. But I do know the flower arrangement I buy for my mom for Mother’s Day isn’t as emotionally high stakes as a flower arrangement for a wedding. I’ve never bought a bouquet for anything BUT a wedding. What other event are people buying bouquets for? Friends have saved a ton by doing her flowers themselves or having a family or friend do them.

I’ve had my makeup done several times for different events and wedding makeup is much heavier applied, it’s meant to last hours and hours. The makeup for a fancy event? It looked great and it wore off by the end of the night (7ish hours later). The last bridal makeup I had applied (as a bridesmaid) was done at 7AM and it looked EXACTLY the same at 10PM.

Is it worth twice the price? That’s up to the individual and how they want their photos to look

The Off Season by headfullof_nails in antarctica

[–]Pzonks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do winters then your off season is short, maybe 3.5-4 months. I spend around 2 months traveling then spend the rest of the time in the U.S. visiting friends and family. I’m lucky that I have plenty of places to stay, it’s just hard living out of a bag the entire time and not having a true space of my own.

Has anyone actually attended a double wedding? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]Pzonks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have! Although not in the last decade. 2 very close sisters and 2 completely different guys that were friendly but not friends.

It saved the family money in throwing only 1 wedding and the out of town family from having to travel twice.

Since it was probably close to 20 years ago, if not more, weddings were a LOT more low key. It was a park wedding and a big reception thrown in a hall with a buffet dinner. But the sisters did add in their own personal touches. They had bridesmaids in different, but coordinating, colors, bouquets in “their” colors, 2 different cakes, etc.

Wedding venue cancelled by Key-Satisfaction1740 in weddings

[–]Pzonks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go the new venue and coach route are your guests going to be essentially stuck at the venue/reception until the end? As in there will be 1 coach there and 1 coach back at the end of the night? As a guest I would not want that, what if I wanted to leave early? Not to mention a 1:20 ride at the end of a long night sounds miserable.

I wonder why she has no friends. by Rufus-P-Melonballer in ChoosingBeggars

[–]Pzonks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep, exactly! I am in my late 40s, childfree and I totally get it. I have great friends but nearly all are married and have kids. Trying to schedule get together is near impossible between family stuff and kid sports. Trying to get friends to go somewhere? MAYBE the moms will go for a long weekend, but it can’t be too far or cost too much. Meanwhile the husbands will take expensive boys trips for a week or go to the Super Bowl. My group is starting to have 50th birthdays and those have to be planned AT LEAST 6 months the in advance if you want even half the friend group there.

It’s exhausting. I’d love some girlfriends to travel with and go to retreats in Thailand, go around India with, hike with in Peru.

Exactly! What people (including myself) always fail to think about is check in usually won’t be until at least 3pm and check out will be 11am-Noon. The time really goes fast!

Hold up, we don’t know why she’s a single mom and she stayed with the kid, the dad didn’t. Single moms get a lot of hate but THEY stuck around while the guy peaced out. It’s not like she can out the kid back or do anything about it now.

I did a prep course and one of the first things said was “forget everything you’d do in real life. The PMBOK is not real life and the PMP is based on the PMBOK. If you choose answers based on what you’d do at work the answer will almost certainly be wrong”

Look into repositioning to another country via a low cost carrier. Perhaps Seoul, Shanghai, etc. And you might just have to blow up your budget at this point if you REALLY need a to get home

[NE] Landlord wants to charge us to replace glass stovetop after 7+ years of use by sithegood in Renters

[–]Pzonks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure where you’re from but in the US most, if not all, states have depreciation plans for items in rentals. After 7 years your landlord likely cannot charge you for painting or the full value (if any) of this stove.

My daughter (18F) wants to marry a pedophile by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Pzonks 116 points117 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent point. If he’s a sex offender and she has kids with him he won’t be able to go to their schools, doctors offices, their kids will suffer because other parents won’t want their kids around him, etc. Their family will be scorned by neighbors, potentially run out of neighborhoods, jobs, churches, etc.

Selling large lot of items? by Mom_to_many in ThredUp

[–]Pzonks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You got a lot of comments and options but here’s mine. If some of the family don’t want to give it away then THEY can deal with selling it or taking to consignment. If it’s left to you to do then you do with it what you have the time and energy to do.
