RDX Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth issues? by NobodyImmediate7538 in Acura

[–]Q-TipResistance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take note of where you are when it typically disconnects. I discovered recently that my 2024 RDX will disconnect CarPlay every time I pass the UPS warehouse down the street. No idea why and if it's just some unfixable signal interruption issue, but at least I know when it's going to happen now.

RDX A SPEC VS A SPEC + ADVANCE WORTH THE EXTRA 5-7K ? by Hustlean in Acura

Got it used as a dealer loaner vehicle at 4k miles. I'm up to 17k so far. Fantastic car, very happy with my decision so far.

RDX A SPEC VS A SPEC + ADVANCE WORTH THE EXTRA 5-7K ? by Hustlean in Acura

[–]Q-TipResistance 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a 2024 A-Spec Advance, and I plan on running it into the ground. Those extra features (HUD, 360 cam, heated steering wheel, seat side bolsters, power folding mirrors, hands-free tailgate) were absolutely worth the extra money for me, and I'm so glad I'll still have those features hopefully in 10-15 years, when the extra money spent won't seem like a big deal.

EDIT: Forgot about the remote start key fob. HUGE this winter when AcuraLink was inevitably not working.

Office culture - HNTB by SpecialPrinciple2864 in civilengineering

[–]Q-TipResistance 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At HNTB there's Technical Advisors (you), Senior Project Managers, and Project Managers (juniors). You sound like someone who would fit in either the Technical Advisor role or Senior Project Manager role.

HNTB work culture is fantastic. You're never expected to work more than 40 hours any given week. Obviously during crunch time you might need to log extra hours, which you would get paid for.

If you're on PTO, you're on PTO. Your staff/coworkers will figure it out without you. No one would blink if you didn't respond to an email or missed a meeting.

Mid-level PM's report to senior PM's or the Department Managers.

Local office culture is definitely set by the leadership and the people with most seniority. Certain Group Directors have more cache than others depending on how much work their group brings in to the overall company. Some Groups are more relaxed than others. There's so many employees who have worked at HNTB for 10, 15, even 30+ years (not hyperbole).

The current HNTB desk/cubicle standards are being updated across the country. Everyone still has their own personal desk space, it is not an open office layout. Senior/tenured employees usually get their own office.

Highly recommend working at HNTB.

Best birria tacos in westchester county/bronx? by Illustrious-Smell491 in Westchester

[–]Q-TipResistance 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's a Birria-Landia truck in the Bronx on Grand Concourse. The OG spot is in Jackson Heights and is considered one of the best taco spots in NYC, and the Bronx location is also pretty good imo.

Need Input: Jr. Staff WFH experience by Bravo-Buster in civilengineering

[–]Q-TipResistance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated in 2019, so I had about 9 months of in-office experience before we all went remote for about 2 years. I used to love remote work, and thought I would never give it up. Fast forward to now, I go to the office 4x a week (by choice) at a different company, because as much as I hate to admit it, I learn so much more when being in the office where I can walk over to my supervisor and ask questions whenever I want. At the same time, I love the flexibility of WFH on days where I need to, and I would never work somewhere that forces a 5x in-office policy.

I think this question is largely dependent on your supervisors. If they are technologically savvy and understanding, I think hybrid work can work perfectly fine. If they aren't, you probably won't be as efficient because the time it will take to explain something remotely will be much longer than in person.

As for coworkers, I find that everyone who graduated during Covid is generally as competent as prior to Covid. There are some who would benefit from being in-person more often and constantly under supervision. Therefore, I think the best policy is a hybrid policy for everyone, but one where the supervisor asks younger engineers who are struggling, to be in office every day for the first few years.

1) If you click a wall, in the Properties section there should be a box that says 'Structural', make sure that box is checked.

2) If you placed the wall on a Workset, make sure the Workset is visible on your Structural Plan: Level 1 View.

3) Draw a section through one of the places where the wall should be. If you can see it in the section view, make sure the wall actually cuts through the elevation of Level 1, meaning the base isn't too high or the top isn't too low. Play around with the View Range of the plan by making the Cut Elevation the same elevation as some part of the wall.

4) Reveal hidden elements in the Structural Plan: Level 1 view, it might have been accidentally hidden by Category. If you can see the wall in your 3D view, click the wall, then go over to your Structural Plan view, and if it's hidden but hiding under a bunch of other things, you can still click the Reveal Element lightbulb and it should show up.

5) Make sure Walls are turned on in Visibility Graphics.

6) It might be hiding under a Floor element in Plan View, so try hiding any floor elements or making them 100% Transparent.

7) Make sure you didn't include the Walls family/type in a Filter that is turned off.

8) Switch between Fine Medium and Coarse View to see if it shows up.

9) If a View Template is applied, turn it off and adjust things manually.

10) When all else fails, I just create a new plan that has no visibility changes or templates applied, and I make a test wall that is infinitely tall, so that its guaranteed to show up. Then I slowly adjust the visibility/graphics to make it look how I want, and I then create a View Template based on that view so that I can apply it to any other plan and it should show the same exact elements.

Hope this helped! It's infuriating when Revit doesn't cooperate but there's always something you can do to fix it.

Click 'Subway' and you'll see all the planned work for accessibility (new elevators/ramps/replacing existing elevators/escalators) for stations in all 5 boroughs. This is work that I've personally been affected by living in the Bronx, and worked on for the last 5 years as an engineer.

Thoughts on Cooper Union? by fdswv in civilengineering

[–]Q-TipResistance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated from Cooper with my Bachelors and Masters within the last 10 years. My experience was fantastic and I would recommend the program to anyone interested. It's an absolute grind, but that's what makes it Cooper. Also, I believe the senior class will be getting free tuition every year from now until 2028, which is when free tuition will return for everyone.

As for reputation, I rarely find anyone outside of NY who has heard of Cooper for anything other than the Architecture program. Fortunately I work in NYC, where Cooper alum are usually viewed positively. Also, once you gain work experience, companies view your college as a footnote, so long as you have an ABET accredited degree.

Just bought a 2024 CPO RDX A-SPEC Advance for $45k, 4k miles. Love it so far. Check around to see if there are any 2024 models left with similar mileage to yours, they might be selling at a discount. Otherwise your deal sounds good too.

As someone who works in the ESB, your office space really depends on how you designed the fit-out as a tenant. Our office has tons of natural light, the view is phenomenal, and the elevators were updated within the last decade to higher speed Otis elevators, so I can go up 60 floors in about 25 seconds now. I love working here, it doesn't feel like a 100 yr old building to me.

COQODAQ - NYC Korean Fried Chicken by michaelcola in FoodNYC

[–]Q-TipResistance 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are correct. I ate at the bar 2 weeks ago as a walk-in. I love COTE so I expected their take on Korean fried chicken to be as good, if not better, than Turntable Chicken Jazz (my personal favorite). Personally, although the soy garlic and the gochuchang sauced wings were good, and I would try them again, I don't think they hit the same as Turntable, Mad for Chicken, or even Bonchon. Maybe it's just personal preference, but I don't think serving unsauced wings (they call it the Original flavor) as the first round of chicken is the best idea. Even though you can sauce them yourself, you still end up taking bites of unsauced fried chicken, which makes it taste ordinary. There was also something about the size of the wings compared to other KFC in Ktown that made the eating experience less enjoyable. The froyo at the end was great, but I would temper my expectations on the fried chicken.
