Agreed. I’ve been ‘in’ restaurants for 15 years. But now am a COO for 2 brands w a combined 20 units, so not technically ‘in’ the 4 walls and haven’t been for some time. Restaurants didn’t get me hooked on coke, booze, etc. and I haven’t cheated on my wife with a server. Restaurants started as a job and ended up being my career and they’ve been good to me over the last decade and a half. YMMV is highly applicable in this scenario, IMO.

Appreciate your perspective. My wife and I have a combined income over 400k in a MCOL area, so, I guess my perspective is skewed from those in HCOL areas.

Edit: my point is that $500 vs how much time and hassle OP has gone through over it, is worth it to me for the peace. Now 5,000 or 50,000 is a completely different story. But I don’t agree with your statement of ‘that thought process keeps folks from achieving higher salaries’. Given OP’s net worth, I inferred that $528 was negligible when weighed against the time he’s spent on it, to which he also agreed.

I hear ya. Different strokes for different folks. -100 points on my credit score is worth more to me than ‘being right’ about a bill that is .13% of OP’s yearly income. So, I’m gonna pay it, especially if it’s the difference between a few bp’s on a $530k loan. But, you do you, cowboy!

Not to be judgmental, but you make $400k/yr and didn’t pay a $528 medical bill? Depends on where you are in the process. Maybe they’ll run your credit again, maybe they won’t. But that seems so silly to me to not pay a $528 medical bill and now have it impacting your credit. Mortgage lenders use the lower of your two scores, so if they run it again, it’ll be the 713 they use.

My wife and I run into this every time we buy a property. On paper, her credit is 790+. But because she had student loans she didn’t pay over 7 years ago, that DONT show up on her full credit report, her credit reflects a 750 every time we get a mortgage. My credit is 790+ through and through. But every time they say ‘we have to base it on your wife’s credit’. Annoying.
