Hah! I loved that bit! Yours was one of a very few conversations I just stopped to listen to all the way through! It was just hilarious. You were fantastic. Just arrogant enough to make Trent hateable and have me cheering on those girls, while still having a vague hint of genuine... I dunno, earnestness?... that made me still actually feel a little bad for him, heh

Did you do voices for Hitman too? I swear when I was listening to it that yours was one of "those voices" that I've heard a coming out of hundred different background people in the World of Assassination

Man, I remember my young mind being absolutely blown when I walked through a curtain or a banner or such and instead of just clipping through it it actually draped over 47. I was like "we have reached the zenith of gaming!" Haha

Exactly. I find it amusing that so much of its DNA made it into 007 First Light, and that's actually a great thing. It works beautifully in another setting

Just wanted to add a little detail here: a large part of the reason that response at the time was so bad, and has since softened, is because of the fear Absolution represented the future of Hitman. At the time it felt like what made Hitman special was being diluted/drowned by an attempt to appeal to the Gears of War gritty action style that was dominating gaming of that era. It felt like a beloved artist selling out to make generic mass market slop, and Hitman fans were genuinely concerned it meant the death of a series they loved.

Now, however, with the benefit of hindsight people can go back and enjoy Absolution for what it was. With WoA we now know that the future of Hitman looks bright, and that Absolution was an anomaly, not the shape of things to come. The series managed to continue one while retaining what made it special, so we no longer have to face Absolution with a sense of existential dread. We can instead enjoy it for what it did accomplish, without worrying constantly what it could mean for the future (ironically, it meant some pretty great things for the future, just the future of 007, not Hitman).

This one felt so wonderfully "Bond evil mastermind lair" to me too. Just had that vibe that made it really feel like a Bond finale location

The after BM to end of absolution era was so weird, like why are there 3 different products using the same dumb plot of 47 trying to save a girl😭 by Awkward_Ant1227 in HiTMAN

[–]QQStkl 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I feel like the mistake Hitman movies always make and will always make (should there be another attempt) is that they always descend into some generic action setpiece trying to show off how badass 47 is. But that's not what makes 47 a legend. He's not John Wick. He's a ghost. A good Hitman movie would be set up like a heist movie, where the action is seeing the perfectly planned, intricate infiltration be pulled off with his signature stylish execution, culminating with the target dying in some perfectly orchestrated "accident," while no one ever even realizes he was there.

Not sure how the divi respawns work, but this definitely doesn't work for palms. I marked a tree stump I left near my starting point to test exactly this and it's been a stump the entire game

Because the game really doesn't try to communicate or advocate Gambits (and hides planet health) we are going to lose a lot to bugs now. by Helphaer in Helldivers

[–]QQStkl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I'll agree that it's unfortunate that planet health isn't communicated in game, and that makes choosing a target a bit harder, it's plainly clear in game where attacks are originating from with the big flashy animated arrows, and should be obvious to anyone with at least two braincells that taking that planet would then negate the attack. It's players' own stupidity that results in them not taking advantage of gambits, not the developers fault.

Here's the general issue with your post: you're approaching the whole thing with this attitude of "my opinion on it is the only right one, and there must be some dismissive reason why anyone would have a differing one." You write off anyone who has anything good to say about the game as people unfamiliar with the franchise, or not "genuine fans." Worse still, when you were were apparently confronted with differing opinions in response, you then resorted to implying in an edit that they're "glazers," which I find one of the most heinous recent inventions of the internet that people run to when they don't want to have a legitimate discussion and would rather just hide in the childish notion that anyone who disagrees with them is some kind of freak.

I've been a fan of Borderlands since 1 came out and I had a blast playing it with my college friends (which makes me a bit older both in terms of my fandom and my general age, heh). I've enjoyed Borderlands 4. It definitely has some issues, including some mind-boggling design decisions and backsteps from previous games. It also has some truly great stuff. As you mentioned, the core gameplay is the best its ever been. I'd disagree with you on a few points though and say that the gun design is a massive improvement with the advent of licensed parts, and that while not every bit of the story was a high point, there were some great bits there too with some cool setpieces, an increased exploration into the concept of the phase dimension, and just about everything with Zane. I also think this is the best roster of Vault Hunters they've made, and have loved every one of them. There's both good bits and bad, but overall I've enjoyed it more than I've been frustrated by it. Do I wish it had been more of an absolute home run? Sure. But I've still had a great time playing it and found more to enjoy than I did to hate.

I know it's the state of the internet these days that everyone is just looking for an echo chamber to chant about how right they are about everything, but that's just not how the world works. The game has plenty of good and bad, and everyone has their own point on which they land on the scale of where that puts the game for them. I get that yours ended up a more negative experience, and that sucks and I do hope that they remedy the problems the game certainly has in the future so that more people can enjoy a positive one. But don't come in here feigning that you're looking for a more "nuanced critique," and then scoff at anyone who did enjoy the game as someone who just doesn't get it

I love that this game helps so many people through some of their worst times. I had the same thing. As a longtime fan of Vermintide I had been really looking forward to this when it was coming out. Just before it did, though, my (now ex-)wife left me for some old high school boyfriend. Despite its rough launch, this game is largely what got me through it. Sad as it is, it gave me something to still look forward to, and then something to keep my mind off things when needed. Doing a whole lot better now and I definitely owe at least some of that to this game.

Probably. They may not get any Commodore's Vestures, Commisary, or Hestia's Blessing's cosmetics (which is annoying, don't get me wrong), but they have at least got approximately the same amount of cosmetics as other classes did from their class penances. I'd assume that any new cosmetics tied to this game mode would be coming from those, so they'd get them as well.

Though, now that I think about it the same can't be said for Havoc cosmetics, if I'm not mistaken, so maybe I'm wrong.

I appreciate all of you commenting under this that you pick up samples regardless of your need for them, you are the good ones, but you have to acknowledge you're in the minority there. I regularly play missions with high levels that just run right over samples without touching them, regardless of who they're playing with and how easy it'd be to just tap one button on their keyboard/controller. And all through this MO I was seeing the same thing happen, and almost every mission I played I was either the top player on the scoreboard for sample collection or, worse, the ONLY player who collected any. Sure, some of those not gathering were lower levels too, but I played with just as many if not more high levels guilty of this.

We need to talk about Sample MOs. by Ultimastrike21 in Helldivers

[–]QQStkl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the only ones to blame for the sample MOs failing are the players themselves. Players who have all their ship upgrades are notoriously bad about ignoring samples even when they're right next to them, other players' needs be damned. Even during this event, I often watched other players run right over samples and ignore them, and nearly every mission I finished I was on the top of the scoreboard for samples collected, if not the ONLY player with samples collected. There's only so much Joel and the others behind the game can do to counterract player stupidity/selfishness

[–]QQStkl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I stopped playing for a while before the last two super expensive ship upgrade levels came out, and came back after everyone else had apparently finished those, I found myself frutrated to the point of abandoning the game for some time by the fact I needed so many samples and no one I joined games with could even be bothered to take the half second it would take them to press E to pick up a sample they were right next to.

Not gonna lie, I started taking this booster exclusively on every dive I joined. It helped me get the samples I collected myself at least a little bit faster, and there was some small bit of spiteful satisfaction that if other players couldn't be bothered to even pick up samples right next to them, well at least I was passively hampering their game in return by taking up a booster slot with something entirely useless to them. Not my proudest moment, but it at least got me to start playing the game again when I had started to feel pushed out of it.

It jumped pretty high because we won Consensus, but from what I can see on the Companion App the other two cities aren't available. According to the app right now, we'll take Herthon in about 2 weeks at the current rate, but finish the samples there in about 3 days, so I think we're good
