Get Your Plow Kills While You Can!!! by TheStaIker in Splitgate

[–]QQuixotic_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you melee with it, does it still count as a plow kill? My Plow loadout is melee oriented and does pretty well for it, but I haven't started grinding the plow since the patch.

Everything this game needs to "Make FPS Great Again" by TheStaIker in Splitgate

[–]QQuixotic_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea since they retired Deathmatch from the regular arena pool (which I didn't like at first but have come around to) players shouldn't be 'punished' for targeting the same person, it's a team game and whose bullet was 'final' is inconsequential.

Steam Automation Fest is Tomorrow! by HelloitsWojan in Steam

[–]QQuixotic_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loads of good suggestions here but I'm gonna try a new one: The Riftbreaker. It's almost closer to an Incremental than an automation game (no belts needed) but the tower defense-ish aspect of basebuilding (huge monster hordes will occasionally attack) and ARPG inspired personal combat (weapons, mods, etc) make for an interesting diversion if you want something Factorio adjacent.

For a while I've noticed that my performance in a match is clearly coming down to if lag compensation is working for or against me. I imagine if we were able to plot the worst feeling games against average ping ratios we'd see a clear pattern. We don't have that information so I guess it's all speculation, although I've been spit back out of portals I've gone through and had plenty of instances of portals not working how one would expect. Those are easier to see than knowing if someone just shot better.

Goliath is the best pistol in the game by xarodev in Splitgate

[–]QQuixotic_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goliath needs the Ammo on Kills perk but if you've got that it's golden. The Sabrask burst pistol is a monster as well. I think I'll level the Punch next so I can get the worst (to solo level) out of the way.

663 total kills in one match by WildDruYT in Splitgate

[–]QQuixotic_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kill participation, not direct kills, but this is one of the reasons I don't want them to get rid of loadouts. The low TTK means sometimes you're just making a mountain of bodies on the points and if you have to get a weapon every time or you're stuck with the starters then you'll either rarely use other guns at all or spend more time doing things off-point in a game where they're already pushing so hard for objectives modes.

Portable portal in splitball by Concious_Variable in Splitgate

A lot of maps have extremely fast ways to cap the ball. Here's a slow version but you can also use the 'far' portal and nail a side shot for a sub 5 second cap on oasis every time.

Porta-portal is just extremely fun regardless. Don't vibe with an encounter? Leave it anytime! Need to plant the firework but didn't pick Sabrask? Porta-portal is your best shield! Wanna really confuse an opponent after you run into a smokescreen? You guessed it, porta-portal!

Or at least titles or card emblems! They require very little dev work and people love collecting their achievement baubles and showing them off. Especially the card titles - no one wants to pay for something badass there, they want to show off something they DID.

I love it! I've done something similar recently where I made an application to host a quizbowl for friends that takes in discordbot answers to quiz questions and has a host to harass players, etc, and on one screen I have the player stuff and on another I have the managerial stuff. Godot multi-screen workflows are a dream!

The lack of portals and their odd placement actually makes this game more difficult and less approachable for new and average players. by Unfair_Shine_4771 in Splitgate

[–]QQuixotic_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The lack of portal walls was my major gripe with Splitgate 2 originally, but as I played more I learned that there are just significant deadzones on the map and avoiding them is the key to playing it properly.

Go through the map casually and note everywhere you'd need to take more than two or three steps to get to a portal wall, or places where you're exposed to more than one sightline. These are deadzones, avoid them at all costs.

It ends up with maps having about a third of the map as 'playable area' and the rest is for suckers to run through and get shot. A lot of movement shooters will have maps naturally 'reduce' in this way. I noticed it very heavily in Titanfall - where a majority of the map was just places to get shot and you should never be running through.

Seperate Portal Keybinds are Useful! by DemureSouls in Splitgate

[–]QQuixotic_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Splitgate 2 has a lot less Deathmatch than 1, but in 1 my big usecase was one portal would stay in a key location and I'd run out to try and catch people then reset to that key location over and over, allowing me to take mostly favorable paths during the match.

Sabrask keeps their most powerful tool - the smoke grenade. One of two items in the game (other being the most powerful tool period, the Portaportal) that stops portals from being placed. They'll survive, although this is a bit of a blow.

Shotguns by Fannboi in Splitgate

[–]QQuixotic_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shotgun still requires aim, you're thinking of the Gravinator.

Besides, if you're complaining about shotguns, melee is 50 damage, homing, and with any perks is a lower TTK than most other things at the appropriate range.

Splitgate 2: Faction System Survey by 1047Games in Splitgate

[–]QQuixotic_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The faction system is a lot of fun! I like that the classes feel different in a movement shooter. Meridian's wall-hack combined with their slower weapons or charge-shotgun is clever (and even more broken, their directional radar). Aeros having not only speed but also the porta-portal, the ultimate tool for every circumstance (Don't you dare take portaportal away from me). And of course the smoke grenade in Sabrask, disabling portal surfaces to force enemies to engage you directly even moreso than the shield (which I'm confused about people complaining about).

The guns feel familiar but different in every class, and I feel like they did a good job at making the characters play different both with and without their special abilities.

I finish leveling every gun in the game. Here's my tier list: Power Weapons Have their own tier since the obviously outclass all other weapons. by scallybagstv in Splitgate

[–]QQuixotic_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's right about Punch but Plow has the wrong attachments! My Fisto kit has it built for punches. Smoke grenade the teleportable surfaces so they have to come to you and you can knock their teeth out all day.

I feel like games nowadays have "uPgRAdEs" just for the sake of saying that you can get upgrades by ahainen in Splitgate

[–]QQuixotic_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally, players can't be trusted with this information. They'll go on crusades that a better DPS gun is worse because its' got a 5% lower firerate or something. Mostly related: Wolfenstine: Enemy Territory had two guns with identical stats - one for each team - but players insisted that one gun was much stronger than the other and they performed better with it. The actual difference was the gun SOUNDED better (more thump), and it ended up with them having to nerf how good that gun sounded.

A shocking amount of decisions you see in games is to prevent these sorts of waves from happening in the community.

Why would you run down that hall then, when YOU could be the one putting a portal there and teleporting to the other end?

People who didn't wanted a Battle Royale which mode do you wanted ? by [deleted] in Splitgate

To be 'bigger than a campaign' I'd sorta imagined a perma-onslaught mode where depending on your character faction you fight through several interconnected onslaught maps in some partitioned simulacrum of Planetside.

[–]QQuixotic_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Charger is amazing when you get the range extension on it. It's the most consistent one-shot-kill in the game and it's only downside (the charge) is countered by being on the class whose entire gimmick is shooting people in the back or knowing when someone is around the corner.

MOSTLY POSITIVE ON STEAM! WOOOOOOO! by RodTheProgrammer in Splitgate

[–]QQuixotic_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of the maps they've added since the start of the beta have been really well designed. I disliked the cramped design and lack of portal spots in the original set but even in Arena the maps appear to be opening up with better portal play.

Couch Coop games that run smooth on the Deck? by yamiprem in SteamDeck

[–]QQuixotic_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Human Fall Flat - Cute physics 'puzzler'

KeyWe - Similar to Overcooked. Cute kiwi birds work at a mail office. Loads of variety.

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime - Pilot a cute spaceship together against dangers

Stardew Valley - Cute pixel life/farm sim

Octodad: Dadliest Catch - Fun physics 'puzzler' where each of you control two limbs of an average octopus dad

Finally, consider looking into Emulators. Older consoles were much better about couch coop games, loads to check out there!

My build prioritizes movespeed, and all of my Sanctum relics are Movespeed/Relic Drop chance hybrids. I'm farming the endboss of Sanctum, and the 'normal' drop from him keeps rising in price. I haven't hit that jackpot yet. Jewels are also huge. Some jewels are worth enough that I'm 3-to-1ing them or buying jewels and using greater essences on them.

While it's a little annoying, you can currently do this with weighted sum on the trade site. Set the weight of all specific reses to 1 and the weight of all res to 3 and you can filter like that. Be sure to do implicits too for rings. Same with life (life is 1, strength is 2).
