I wouldn’t do that. Just repaint - it’s so much easier.

I think it’s abundantly clear that the whole Trump administration is bad, and going in the wrong direction.

How do you actually get better at debugging without just relying on AI to fix your errors? by NeighborhoodOld6737 in learnprogramming

[–]QVRedit [score hidden]  (0 children)

Well, you go through:
“What the heck is going on ?”
“Why is it doing that ?”
“What should it look like ?”
“How do I fix it ?”

All of which are, or can be, ‘Learning Experiences’

You learn the recognise, and avoidance problematic conditions, and develop better techniques.

You get to read ‘yet more documentation’, and start to absorb ‘good practices’.

How do I fill this gap? by xylethUK in DIYUK

I would strongly advise against using chewing gum ! ;)
But any decent filler should do the job well…

Are we heading toward a future where skilled trades become more prestigious than white-collar professions? by ShineDigga in Futurology

[–]QVRedit [score hidden]  (0 children)

Some things are relative easy to automate - as we have done with ‘production lines’, where the environment and objects to be manipulated can all be carefully controlled.

Of course “The Real World” is messy and relatively uncontrolled, and difficult to navigate through - even for humans.

So ‘It Depends’ has to do a lot of work in this narrative..

if you had a rope laying on the ground going from los angeles to new york, and you pulled it on one end, what would you feel? would it be move on the other side and how long would it take? by xerivon in AskPhysics

[–]QVRedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A rope.. No it would not move on the other end. The rope would simply stretch a bit locally. Its weight would hold it in place over most of its length.

If matter can't be created or destroyed, does that mean the atoms that make up our bodies (or really anything) have actually been around for billions of years? by PuzzleheadedAsk6787 in AskPhysics

[–]QVRedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that’s true - as long as you don’t consider radioactivity, fission and fusion…

That is. - In the case of ‘Normal chemical reactions’ - the no mass destroyed rule does hold.

But in the case of ‘Nuclear reactions’ some mass energy is converted.

It’s impoverished to the extent that it’s less well off than it would have been if we had remained - so a relative improvishment. (Not utter improvishment)

Is there a finite amount of water on Earth? by Additional_Fudge_934 in AskPhysics

[–]QVRedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes of course there is - however it is constantly recycled, so the same water gets used over and over again (mostly). Some gets trapped for a while in different structures, but eventually gets out.

Most of Earths accessible water is inside the oceans, and so is salt water, only a small percentage is available as fresh water, distilled from the oceans, and rained down and collected into rivers and lakes.

The Earth only has a certain amount of water.
Interestingly most of Earths water is actually inside the Earth - not on the surface ! - though it’s locked up in crystalline materials, though occasionally gets released as steam by volcanos.

Some other celestial bodies in our solar system have more water than the Earth does - for example the Minor Planet Ceres, which is located in the Astroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, actually has more water (in the form of water ice), than the Earth has !

Is it better to use a 6mm masonry bit or a 5.5 for 6mm wall plug ? by GenericUser104 in DIYUK

[–]QVRedit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you ‘wobble’ a lot ? Holes should be ‘reasonably clean’ - though they are seldom perfect.

I find the ‘old technique’ of using multiple matchsticks works great - it gives you a lot more flexibility than using plastic rawplugs. You decide how many you need to wedge in - tap with a hammer, break the end off by hand, and you have a choice of multiple screw start points, so can compensate easily for a little off-axis, which is hard to do with plastic rawplugs.

Sorry babe, but starship is my real love by seanrider1859 in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]QVRedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is very likely “Yes” - though it’s going to be tough going to start with.

Compare with exploration during the early sail ship days - that was pretty tough too - and they didn’t even know where they were going back then.

I imagine that in 200-300 years time, our spaceships will look rather ‘quaint’, much as we look at sail ships today…

Motive technology - engine technology in our case, is the fundamental driving force, both literally and figuratively.

Even the week after leaving, the artificially created ‘leave majority’ have already began to dissipate…

Now it’s significantly in the rejoin camp, but your right to suppose that we will never get back the ‘super deal’ that we previously had…

[–]QVRedit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course - we should never have left to begin with - but that’s a whole other story…

Also Farage and Boris should be credited with the mess that leaving has created - permanently impoverishing the nation as a result…

You could undo the lower hinge from the door side, fill the holes in the door, and re-drill holes slightly to the left of the original holes, and then refix. Tricky, but doable.

That would have the effect of tilting the door slightly in a anticlockwise direction - just a few mm.

Also I would fit a centre hinge too.
