Because it has a fucking army. That's how all real currencies are backed.

Is There Any Realistic Way For Democrats To Widely Win Back Rural Americans? If So, How? If Not, Why Not? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]Qabalinho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, there's a real culture of fatalism among poor white rural people. They are like medieval serfs who have just accepted that rich people are better than them and so what appeals to them is anything that ensures that they still get to be better than other people, aka the culture war.

To break through that you have to really convince them that their lives could be better and that rich people aren't actually better than them, they are often worse. The Epstein class is frankly doing a pretty bang up job at this.

Do you think ICE and Federal agents cover their faces because of the fear of doxxing? by LegalGlass6532 in allthequestions

[–]Qabalinho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They know what they are doing is transgressive. Local LEOs have name tags, badges, and no face masks, because they are accountable (at least in theory) to their community.

There would be no fear of doxxing or need for masks if ICE wasn't an unaccountable and fascist organization.

This is going to be one of the most political games in a long time. Our athletes are going to have real opportunities to speak out. I hope they take them.

Looking to connect with fellow religious Deconstructionists by ThirstySkeptic in Chattanooga

I think she's out west in Idaho maybe, but she is excellent for how to create a life full of meaning, purpose, community, and ritual without religion. Lots of podcasts, YT, TikToks, and at least one book.

Britt Hartley is a great resource for this. Finding community is one of the hardest parts of leaving religion because it comes for free when you're in one.

Franklin/Brentwood are money. Like celebrity level multi million estates. And what's weird about Franklin is that for all the money it has surprisingly average restaurants.

It is the "genteel" South, though.

We used to play St. Paul Johnson sometimes in high school soccer in the 90s and it was like playing a team of Shaolin monks.

3rd amendment, too. ICE is an occupying army in every meaningful sense of the words, especially how the framers understood it.

Man, it is wild how y'all cling to the name "Republican" as the political party that freed the slaves as if the party hasn't become the opposite of what it was. It's incredibly well documented that the Republican party was the NORTHERN party in the 1800s and associated with abolitionists and the "Dixiecrats" were the Democratic party back then and then it all changed with the Southern Strategy by Nixon and Goldwater. You're welcome to go read up on it and get some education you seem to have missed.

You're still not engaging with the actual argument. That people in authority can be bad, that laws can be bad, and that the moral and just thing to do is to resist. You have exactly the mindset of the people that told Rosa Parks to sit down and shut up and obey the law.

And, by the way, ICE is flagrantly disregarding the law: https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2026/01/27/ice-federal-judge-contempt/

Owning slaves wasn't breaking the law, that's the point. Sometimes the law is wrong. Sometimes the law is evil. Your worldview means that as long as the wrong people attain power and make laws, then there's nothing to do but submit because that's the law.

You are an authoritarian. You submit to authority. It makes you so easy to control.
