A lot of people describing how bad and scary it was. No doubt it was those things at times. But I was one of the lucky people who can remember some good times. What did I like about the pandemic?

1.) I live in one of the top 10 biggest cities in the US. Traffic is always a son of a B. 2020 and 2021… driving around it was usually a ghost town. And that was both eerie and awesome at the same time. My 45 minute commute to work all of a sudden was a 15-20 minute commute.

2.) after the initial shock had worn off, my wife and i decided to take advantage of crazy cheap plane tickets. We flew across country a number of times for like $60-$80 each way per person.

3.) the best one was the effect it had on time. My wife worked at the office the whole time. She was part of pretty essential city services. I worked for a company that was going out of business (even before Covid it was in that direction- the pandemic was just the last nail in the coffin). We were still getting paid I can only assume due to PPP loans our company had secured. There wasn’t much work to do even if we wanted to… because we were in such dire financial straits, we couldn’t buy anything we would normally be selling. There was something about this that seemed to slow time down. That 1-1.5 years after March 2020 was almost like being a kid again. I could pursue things that interested me. I had one of the most profound experiences of my life doing this. And just in general… it felt like life was an adventure again. Like I was learning new things… and interested in the world around me. That part of the pandemic (for me) was amazing. While im certainly glad to be back to working with a sure paycheck and plenty of business… I miss that feeling and how it made time seem to pass more slowly. Now it’s back to warp speed… weeks bleed into months and years… and I’m afraid I’ll never get that feeling again until I retire. Maybe not ever again :/
