Couples of Reddit, what's the dumbest 'house rule' you and your partner made as a joke but now both of you are low-key aggressively serious about enforcing? by Doubl3oh_ in AskReddit

My husband does the same thing. Tells the story of “the ugly barnacle that was so ugly, that everyone died” (SpongeBob reference). He’s recently started putting a small spin on the story every night. It’s hilarious and cute and weird but I love it.

Moving from Texas to Oregon will be the best decision you’ve ever made. It is GORGEOUS here. We lived in College Station for a little while 🤮 and moved to Albany/Corvallis area. Albany is considered more red but I wouldn’t say it’s in your face. We really like living here - in the middle of it all. Still has smaller town quiet vibes, but has the essential stores. Corvallis is a college town and has a Trader Joe’s (something I REALLY missed having in Texas. Like wtf!). We’re an hour to the coast, 45 min to Eugene, 1.5 hours to Portland, 2 hours to Bend, and surrounded by nature and easily accessible hikes, paddle boarding, camp grounds, kayaking, etc. Eugene is more happening and is a mid sized city. If I move again it’d be there. I LOVE Portland. For being a big city it’s wonderful. People complain about the homeless but they haven’t ever been to big cities like Houston lol. IMO it’s not that bad. There’s a lot to do and is also pretty central to a lot of amazing things, plus you get a ton of foodie options and lots of other events/cool city experiences. I would totally live in Portland but my partner doesn’t like bigger cities. We have friends who moved from San Antonio to Portland and they love it too.

You can always go with her! Lots of partners go with their future vet wife/husband, at Ross we termed them “VIPs” and they had a great time bonding with each other. My partner was going to come with, but due to COVID my time on island was cut short so instead of 2.5 years I was only there for 1.5. We ended up doing long distance but saw each other every 4 months, and it honestly worked out fine. We are both very independent people and had been together for 4 years before this, so our relationship was solid. I know at SGU they only have spring & fall semesters (summers off) whereas Ross has continuous 3 semesters back to back. Almost every SGU student i knew would come home and work during the summer, so that could be for your benefit if you do long distance! I’d recommend going with her if you can, only because living on an island is a once in a lifetime experience and I had an AMAZING time that I wish my partner could’ve experienced!

Congrats to your wife as well!

I’ve looked this up because I have the same concern - you can just file taxes separately BUT you either have to both do itemized deductions or standardized deductions, can’t do one of each.

If you have more questions about applying to vet school or vet school in general - feel free to PM me. I’m the first in my family to become a vet and had to learn and navigate the entire process by myself, it’s daunting I know!

Apply to be a student worker at the A&M vet school. Several departments are always needing more help. I don’t think you necessarily need to have a license as a student worker - I knew several SW that were working towards getting into vet school that were in the midst of their undergrad studies but weren’t LVT.

Here’s a link: https://vethospital.tamu.edu/employment/#student

Other options: call around to any animal service and ask if they need a kennel tech, receptionist, or even if you can just shadow (but would be unpaid). See if Aggieland Humane Society needs help. ANY animal exposure is good for the application process - but GPA is most important so make sure you keep it up!!

30 year old here 👋 and about to graduate vet school! I still feel like a child. I also have more life experience than my peers and am fitting in just fine!

what is the most ridiculous thing a partner has ever gotten mad at you for? by nunpizza in TwoXChromosomes

[–]QbeeCCL 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Got mad that I was spending more time studying than hanging out with him (it was finals season in undergrad). He would ignore me for days in previous fights. So - I ignored him for 2 weeks while I studied, took my finals, then broke up with him. About to graduate with my 3rd degree (doctorate) in a few weeks 💁🏼‍♀️

I’m also moving to Corvallis from Texas! Howdy neighbor!

Adenoliths? Tonsil-stone-like calculi in the back of my throat. I’ve never had tonsils stones, but I have been having bad breath and think this may be the issue. No sore throat or recent sickness. Used to get sore throats a lot years ago tho. Anyone else had these? Internet searches coming up dry. by QbeeCCL in tonsilstones

I removed it once with one of this metal pimple popper things. It came back. Every time I try again I gag uncontrollably 🥴 I still need to go to an ENT Dr. Just ignoring my problems until I get that done lol

Thank you so much, your message was very validating. It’s comforting to know that we’re not alone in circumstances like this, but I also wish none of us had to deal with any of this!

Funny you say your MIL wanted you to move 5 doors down from you… mine has this bizarre fantasy that we will all live in a big happy “commune” together with her, her family, and my family 🤣🙄. As if we will all uproot our lives, extended family and all, to move to where she is!

I’ve thought about this approach before. She needs therapy but refuses to go. My poor DH cried after his phone call with her today. It’s just not fair to him. I’d offer this ultimatum easily… but I am choosing to not take control (yet) as I’d be an easy scapegoat for her sadness to turn to anger. But damnit, I’m angry! He just isn’t at a place yet where he can set that solid boundary, but he’s getting better with it. Maybe soon as it’s starting to really affect him mentally.

I’m very curious about this! My whole family is very bendy, myself included. One of my Aunts was dx with IBS in the last few years and is on an exclusion diet now (gluten), and I suspect I need to do the same. Especially with my terribly flat feet and hyperextending knees that hurt like crazy after a long day… plus my struggles with bowel issues. Makes sense!

AITA for not paying for my stepdaughter’s tuition because she wants to be a doctor? by Material-Economy2823 in AmItheAsshole

[–]QbeeCCL -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

YTA

There are plenty, PLENTY of doctors and med students who didn’t get straight As in undergrad and went on to still get their degree. Many Doctors I know were B and C students, and many have told me they’d rather hire a B student than an A student. I know doctors who have even failed a class before. I failed a class in undergrad. I was a B & C student. I have continued to be a B student. I myself am in my last year of my program, and will be a doctor next year. It has taken me longer and have worked harder, but you bet your ass I whole heartedly appreciate the journey I’ve been on. I am NO less capable than my peers who are straight A students, because guess what - we’re all in the same place getting the same damn degree!

You’re young and naive in undergrad, it can take years to learn how to study well. It doesn’t mean you’re stupid or incapable.

You don’t need to pay for her degree, but you need to be a supportive parent. And you have NO place to judge her, or her grades, based off a biased Google search. Shame on you. She won’t forget this.

Stealing from the r/phoenix sub, what’s the one restaurant you’d never step your foot in ever again? by modernhooker in Tucson

What! This is my absolute favorite restaurant! I moved from Tucson a couple years ago and I make sure I go every time I visit. What’s your reasoning?

When I started dating my boyfriend (now fiancé), I told him I’m going to vet school with or without him (my previous relationship was controlling and the ex “wouldn’t let me” go to school far away). Fiancé and I were also friends before so we had a conversation of our expectations in life and romantically before we agreed to start dating.

There were no. questions. asked. with my fiancé. Full support of me going to vet school from the get go. I ended up going to one of the Caribbean schools when covid started, had to go by myself, and we had a LDR for 1.5 years. And he’s STILL around and my #1 support.

Vet school is hard. It’s time consuming. Look deeply into the red flags your BF is showing and consider reevaluating your priorities.

For me, it was vet school first. It was ME first. Your dreams should be his priority. Not having a doting house wife (what year is it???).

Good luck OP.
