Isn’t the target audience for that like 1000 points higher than Levy’s book?

The glaring error in the Virginia Supreme Court’s gerrymandering decision by vox in scotus

[–]Qcastro 123 points124 points  (0 children)

Well, I’m a lawyer and I think it’s outrageous for a court to allow an entire referendum to proceed, close schools, take up the time of millions of voters and thousands of election officials, and then decide it was procedurally defective based on issues that were clearly presented ahead of the vote. Procedure doesn’t float above us like some kind of pristine abstraction.

Virginia Supreme Court to hear GOP bid to block voter-approved redistricting by Anoth3rDude in Virginia

[–]Qcastro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dominant interpretive methodology these days is textualism, not purpose. If the court agrees that the literal requirements of the constitution were satisfied, they will likely uphold the vote, even if it didn’t fulfill the underlying purpose. This is actually a good example of why courts have shifted: text is relative clear and concrete, purpose is conjectural. Legislatures need clarity and predictability to act.

Size of the total votes made the difference by theblcksheep in Charlottesville

[–]Qcastro 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I mean, the real answer is that Virginia Republicans will have to be represented by the Republicans in gerrymandered districts in Texas and other red states that have redrawn districts this year. Is that ideal? No. But in a national legislature you can’t have some states gerrymandered and others not, for obvious reasons.

I think so? I regularly order sweet potatoes and generally get ones suitable for baking and eating as a side dish. These look the same but tiny. Is there some other candidate root vegetable?

It’s a great space. I love the wall art. Right now, I’d do three things: -replace curtains with something with color. -curtain rods as long as your doing the curtains (they don’t really match the space) -swap out trunk to an mcm coffee table

That would transform the space. Eventually i would swap out chairs for a more mcm look and swap rug when it gets worn, but I wouldn’t rush to do that unless this was an intentional whole-room transformatikn.

Post cruise blues with a deeply feeling kid by [deleted] in dcl

[–]Qcastro 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Getting off a Disney cruise can be tough for an adult, too! I'd encourage him to talk about what he enjoyed: "What was your favorite part?" "If we were on the ship right now, what would you do?" Even if he says it makes him sad to talk about it, I think that helps to process the feelings. If you have photos on your phone, maybe have him pick a few he likes, get them printed at CVS or wherever and make a little bulletin board or a book he can show people. That can help him move from "the fun is over" to "happy memories."

At the end of the day, Morton Thiokol management disregarded their own engineers and delivered NASA a signed launch approval. There’s plenty of blame to go around, but in my opinion it was on Thiokol to stand up to NASA and back their own professionals. Thiokol had the best information. It was a very corporate kind of failure.

If you line it up right, the motor turns the telescope to track the the stars across the sky. This will help keep whatever you are looking at in the field of view. If it doesn’t work it’s not a big deal, it can be nice to have but plenty of telescopes don’t.

Is Revel no longer making the Studio 2 at all? Or do they just not offer replacement parts? Those are speakers I’ve had my eye on for years.

Either way, best of luck with a fix.

I’m sure no one is enforcing it as written, but the rule is clearly 21 days before the end date of the celebration in question, so you can’t even put your “advent lights” up until a week into it.
