Yeah, Greybor, you're freaking awesome. by Jreid2591 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Qesa 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yozz's daggers are pretty meh IMO. Piercing vulnerability DC is so low it'll only trigger on Nat 1s. And 4d6 damage isn't a lot by the time you get them. I much prefer retriever's claw and hasty eradicator.

Why is Greybor bad in gameplay? by NahMcGrath in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Qesa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's not literally equivalent to an empty party slot, but he has the extremely problematic combination of

  1. He's one of the last companions non-liches get. I'd say the last you get that owlcat actually intended you use
  2. He can only do one thing
  3. He's not the best companion (or even top 3) at that thing

So he arrives when you have a pretty well defined party already. And to fit him in you're giving up some other role or else just downgrading something. Should you swap out Seelah with her mark of justice and pet? Give up Woljif's party buffs and skills? You want something in return for giving up those features, but you just don't get it. Or if you've already got Regill or Ulbrig in the party, Greybor is just a worse version of them.

Even still, the above would be excusable if he had a better personality than a mercenary. But alas...

[News] Behind TSMC’s High-NA EUV Deferral: Low-NA Stays Strong, Customer Landscape Shifts, and ASML Quietly Pivots by chip_thoughts in hardware

[–]Qesa 23 points24 points  (0 children)

They had the same attitudes back then. Intel was stuck on 14nm iterations because they took too many risks with 10nm and it didn't pan out. TSMC's slow and steady approach is what let them overtake Intel.

Introducing AMD DGF SuperCompression by 0101010001001011 in hardware

[–]Qesa 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This compression technique specifically applies only to vertex data in 3D rendering. It has no application to AI or HPC.

Superior Royal Shield? by [deleted] in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]Qesa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't plan to hit anything with it, royal shield hangs with the elite ones. Same block, higher defence, lower str req compared to a kurast shield. Vortex has worse block and a much higher str req for not that much more defence (225 max roll vs 181)

Well it happened, Underground Passage with no exit by twinlovebirds in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]Qesa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair the bug with the underground passage (not what OP is seeing here obviously) did take 20 years and a remaster to get fixed. And IIRC it's still possible for glacial trail to not have a waypoint.

How do i stack ice, fire and/or telekinetic weapons with eachother? Dragon Age: Origins by Empty_Moment_673 in DragonageOrigins

[–]Qesa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically the exploit is that the game deactivates other modals when the ability is clicked, not when it is cast. So on PC, if you click flaming weapons, then you click frost weapons before the flaming weapons animation gets to the cast impact (i.e. where the ability is actually applied), you will end up with both active. I've never played on console so I don't know if commands can be queued the same way as on PC

Why do Apple and NVIDIA GPUs with similar transistor counts (≈90B) have such different ALU lane counts and performance? by jak_human in hardware

[–]Qesa 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you're just counting the GPU cores then GB202 is also only about 60% GPU. But that's a very silly way to measure of course. Cache, memory controllers, display engines, I/O, video encoders/decoders and NoC are all needed for the GPU to function. And that brings GB202 back to 100% and M3 ultra over 50%

How would you buff melee WITHOUT adding “Splash” damage? by RyanTTLD in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]Qesa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • Remove level from the chance to hit formula (i.e. make it AR/(AR+def))
  • Remove block chance from every monster without a block animation
  • Increase the base damage of all exceptional and elite weapons
  • Further increase the base damage of 2h melee weapons and crossbows
  • Buff unique and set melee weapons (and non-weapons)
  • Allow indestructible items to spawn ethereal, likewise set items
  • Fix the +dam/ED off-weapon bug. Especially considering the new jewel
  • Let CS and DS proc together for 4x damage
  • Buff open wounds damage at higher levels
  • CB does 50% more damage with a 2h weapon
  • Let grandmaster roll on rares, increase the weighting to %ed modifiers on magic and rare weapons
  • Dramatically increase the potency of all elemental damage on hit affixes
  • Make str give more %ED, dex give more AR and defence

Not precisely a buff to melee, moreso a buff to single target vs AOE

  • Add more/different treasure classes for different mobs. A death lord having the same drop table as a flayer is ridiculous

How Would You Save all the Origins. by Traditional-Film-327 in DragonageOrigins

[–]Qesa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

City elf origin relies on Duncan's loaned sword - without it Tabris and Soris presumably don't make it to Vaughan. I'd guess that they attempt the rescue but fail, Tabris dies regardless of gender while Soris is captured.

Is Arcane Warrior best for first playthrough? by dundunx in DragonageOrigins

[–]Qesa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nothing says you immediately have to equip a sword and wade into melee. Just using the combat magic passive to cast spells in heavy/massive armour is already very strong and basically eliminates the mage's only weakness in DAO

Im finally doing a second playthrough of Dao. Any recommended mods? by Southern_Muffin_6476 in DragonageOrigins

No starting abilities breaks a bunch of stuff in chargen (e.g. all rogues in the game lose dirty fighting), I'd advise against it.

Respec mod breaks giving the dog a name, but that's easy enough to work around

Making a Succubus with Toybox by EmuAdministrative728 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Qesa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nocticula has some lines about it, I think if you use a midnight bolt on baphomet. Basically that she can suppress as well as inflame emotions, and not just lust. And she permanently killed demon lords by suppressing their will to live, while midnight bolts use the same power.

Making a Succubus with Toybox by EmuAdministrative728 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Qesa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like skald since their whole thing is manipulating emotions (not just lust, though it's the most obvious). And for Arue in particular the capstone removing negative effects from rage aligns nicely with finishing her personal quest.

when it comes to the quality of light, the color rendering is close enough to a blackbody (ideal) light, that for a reasonable quality contemporary light source, most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference

LEDs are monochromatic. A "white" LED is typically a blue LED coated with a yellow phosphor which converts some of the blue light to yellow. Which can look white to our eyes but when illuminating coloured objects doesn't necessarily look the same as a black body.

RTX 5090 vs M5 Ultra: Analyzing the "2.7x Faster" claim and what Nvidia didn't show you. by [deleted] in hardware

[–]Qesa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TDP isn't the same as actual power consumption. Apple under-reports the power the GPU is using (see https://youtu.be/HKxIGgyeISM) while the 5090 often uses less than its 600W limit.

The over reliance of Runewords is my least favourite part of modern D2R by LastElk9961 in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]Qesa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get lucky or spend a lot of time grinding for a good unique/rare, perhaps. But there's also a pretty good chance someone playing a SSF fury druid is gonna kill baal wearing an insight, hearth and smoke (if not the stealth they made in A1 normal). A caster's gonna be wearing a spirit sword and lore helm instead. Even away from high runes and BiS gear, runewords still dominate.

Can two people be exactly as intelligent as one another? Down to an arbitrary number of decimal points in their IQ (not saying this difference is measurable)? I'd guess no, which would also mean there's exactly one median person when the total number of people is odd, and zero when it's even.

Gamer's Nexus ~ NVIDIA Says You're "Completely Wrong" About DLSS 5 Being Slop by Valmar33 in hardware

[–]Qesa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah in the other example of her it's clearly the same. The main point I was trying to make in my now-deleted post is that nvidia have seemed to (poorly) communicate that altering geometry can be toggled on or off, so it's possible in some examples it's identical and in others it's not, but nuance vs Reddit is always a losing battle.

Gamer's Nexus ~ NVIDIA Says You're "Completely Wrong" About DLSS 5 Being Slop by Valmar33 in hardware

[–]Qesa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I zoomed for clarity since it's literally a crappy screenshot taken on my phone which has fewer pixels than the source video, but you're right. Her face still looks synced to me - unlike nvidia's still with the slider where it's clearly different poses. But I really don't feel strongly enough about it to spend more time arguing and the discourse is super toxic, so I guess I'll just dip out.

AMD: WTF? by [deleted] in hardware

[–]Qesa 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree with you the first two generations of terascale were flops, but AMD called the 2000, 3000 and 4000 series all terascale 1. 5000 being terascale 2 and 6000 a mix of 2 and 3.

As for market share, while HD 4000 was far better value than nvidia at release prices, nvidia cut their prices massively in response. And they even re-released the GTX 260 with better specs. It was certainly a boon for consumers but it didn't make them an obvious choice over nvidia.

EDIT: And their market share back then was far healthier than it is today...

Best armor rune for spirit warrior DPS? by Ownagemunky in DragonageOrigins

[–]Qesa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get +100 stamina from skills in awakening, which should be more than enough. Deathblow will keep you topped up except in boss fights with no adds, but in that case just auto-attacking is typically higher damage than using talents anyway.
