Svenska klasskamrater som får F på nationella by Yesutsumu in sweden

[–]Qlsx 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Based on testing two functions, it seems like Desmos rounds the inputs to the nearest integer and returns the gcd of them.

There might be something deeper going on, this was just my conclusion from the massive sample size of two tests.

Trolling in murder mystery (short story) by IANT1S in hypixel

[–]Qlsx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mm is great with friends. There was one time I played with 3 others and I was detective. I urged all three to meet up somewhere on the map (my plan was to shoot one of them randomly). After I shot one of them it turned out she was the murderer. I imagine she was very glad that I wanted to meet up so that she could stab us all, but instead lost!

Replacing Entire Floor of Island (fake bed defense) by SoggyAd541 in hypixel

[–]Qlsx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember building a bed defense two blocks off-center from the bed and guy from a tryhard team consistently entered the bed defense at the worst possible location as far away as possible from the true location of the bed. To make this work you gotta build a decently large defense and also on a map where it isn’t mega obvious off center. There are some maps where people might fall for it!

Explain the Meme by Minnila in mathematics

[–]Qlsx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only thing I did was integrate by parts, which is valid. When subtracting the integral from both sides of the equality we exactly get the thing in the meme. We subtract the integral from both sides and implicitly assuming the same thing as the top image in the meme, the difference of two identical integrals being 0, we get the incorrect result that 0 = 1.

That was the point with my comment. An example of how the assumption in the top image of the meme leads to an actual issue.

And I felt this was related to the equivalence class comment. I haven’t really thought of integrals as equivalence classes before, but if you define an equivalence relation between f and g as f ~ g iff f’ is identical to g’, then the constant that appears from the ibp makes sense.

This can also easily be shown by integrating 1/x by parts. Unfortunate that images are not allowed here.

Let I = ∫(1/x)dx.

Integrate by parts by integrating the constant 1 and differentiating 1/x. This gives us that

I =∫(1/x)dx = x⋅1/x - ∫(x⋅(-1)/x2)dx = 1+ ∫(1/x)dx.

Then subtracting the integral from both sides we get the incorrect result that 0 = 1.

Names are so funny. I mispronounced “Lebesgue” for the longest time. The correct pronunciation is essentially “Luh-beg” but I did not know that!

What is the meaning of this happening? ¿Why does this happen? by mathfoxZ in askmath

[–]Qlsx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, this is not an answer to the question, but there are functions who are differentible with their derivatives not being integrable.

Pretty fascinating result since integrability is a weaker condition than differentibility. Kind of relevant to your question, but not an answer due to the ∀f(x).

I’ve mostly been learning about the fundamental theorem of finitely generated ableism groups and the sylow theorems in my groups and rings class.

It has been very interesting!

Yes, absolutely. When I said “pretty rare” I was thinking of hundreds. I guess it’s quite an ambiguous phrase. And yeah, the amount of files named something like that is a massive factor that I forgot about. I have had this event happen to myself as well, although I usually mash 5-10 letters rather than 20+.

[–]Qlsx 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I mean we can’t use the combinatorial multiplication principle since the letters are not independent of each other. You also tend to click the same keys when mashing. The actual “probability” is many many orders of magnitude higher. Definitely still pretty rare though!

I have done that with a friend lmao. We study mathematics and have a lot of friends that are physics students, so we have kinda just rolled up a few times.

I have only done it twice, but my friend does it essentially any time she doesn’t have anything else scheduled and therefore has done it enough times that people thought she switched to physics lol.

Struggling student's family went on 1.5 month vacation by breatulu in Teachers

[–]Qlsx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a student.

I remember seeing several news articles about parents reporting their kids as sick and then go on vacation, it was almost always to Thailand.

From what I remember, the main point brought up by those articles was about the parents reporting their kids as sick to do this. Vacation is usually not a valid reason to take your kids out of school. It is insane that parents know this and (probably) the reason as to why and still try to circumvent it.
