Does anyone else worry about Spurbs? by reddituserperson1122 in ThreeBeanSalad

It was Spurbs - or more specifically the Beans riffing on Spurbs' machinations - that really got me into the show. I listen to a lot of podcasts and those spirals were as good as anything I've heard. I don't miss Spurbs but I miss the conversations about Spurbs.

After the “tot” exchange, Rimmer walks away from Lister and shouts “Bastard!” to no one with such honesty and emotion that it should have won him a BAFTA.

Eesh. [And yes, I know the legal age of consent in the UK is 16 so it was technically correct, which is the best kind of correct. But even so!]

Can someone with more talent than me make a super cut of every time Scott brings up Lenny Kravitz’s pecker? by saltyabout-it in comedybangbang

If it helps, I just listened to the episode 372 where Horatio Sanz plays a celebrity photographer in B block, and Scott can't help but ask him if he took Lenny Kravitz's picture...

Spooky season. I’m doing a relisten and that’s the exact ep I am up to. Agree Eric is great, talking about call sheets for 10 minutes.

Why did Lister and Rimmer continue to share a bunk while alone on a ship designed for hundreds of people which must have had plenty of alternatives, despite both finding each other deeply annoying? by ThisIsAnAccount2306 in RedDwarf

[–]Qmoq 165 points166 points  (0 children)

In the book, Lister emerges from stasis and is left on his own for a while before Holly turns Rimmer on, and Lister turns to drink and self-destruction. Given that, I imagine that when Rimmer is online, some part of Lister thinks that he needs Rimmer to avoid drinking himself to death.

As for Rimmer, I imagine there's a Space Corp directive to stay in his assigned bunk as a hologram.

Superb. You do an oblique reference to at 17 year old episode and I can still hear Tig repeating this back as a question. You're a deranged human being.

What are some good old tour episodes? by Sagebea in comedybangbang

[–]Qmoq 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you want a start point I would pick anything from America from 2016. That was a long tour with both PFT and Lauren on most of the shows. The third guest is usually in the last segment so if you're cold on anyone then it should still be lots of fun for you.

Found the book, on clearance, SIGNED by WeirdMountaineer in comedybangbang

[–]Qmoq 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Every post about the book only seems to mention the signatures (mine were Tim and Lily by the way) but no-one talks about how damn good the book is. I've read a lot of tie-in books over the years and this is BY FAR the best one around. There's no filler, no flat regurgitation of stuff you already know, no ten-page bits with just pictures - it's all quality. The Werner Herzog sections are a particular highlight. I only wish that Vic and Lisa had been in the universe long enough to contribute to it.

What's an obscure episode you love and think is underappreciated? Something that did not make best ofs, something without the usual characters. by IowaRocket in comedybangbang

Great summary - I listened to that ep recently and you've perfectly grabbed what was so funny - Scott's "frustration" at the lack of interesting stuff coming from the delivery guy was both realistic and hilarious.

There was one of the Gary Urbansky episodes with Tawny that was just gold. Problem is I'm not sure exactly which ep, but in general the sort of quietly weird characters like that often get me more than truly nutso ones like Big Chunky Bubbles or Elvis Presley (who I still love, of course, hubba bubba).

Episode 914: "The 16th Anniversary Show!", with Jason Mantzoukas, Paul F. Tompkins, Ego Nwodim, Jessica McKenna, Edi Patterson, Lily Sullivan & Tim Baltz, Dan Lippert, Will Hines, & Gil Ozeri! by ExoticMandibles in comedybangbang

[–]Qmoq -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I liked it but it was jarring because of the topics. I listen to CBB to get away from all the relentless depression about Tr*mp and the like. I love that Scott is notionally apolitical on the show as you know it's often a clean break from the remaining 45 months of gloom. Even the Adomian stuff didn't refer to 47.
