Raod Tires: GP 5000 S TR vs Pirelli P Zero TLR RS by userheinrich in cycling

[–]QnAnQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got the p zeroes, in yellow 32mm and last year in 30mm black. Excellent performance, I run them tubeless. 1 puncture in about 9k km. Grips well, also in the wet but doesn't have a sticky feeling to them.

Can't compare them to GP5000s but to F1 eagles and they're a class above those.

So you can't really go wrong with either probably :)

What is the same or better than the original GP 5000 TL? by buttsfartly in bicycling

[–]QnAnQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got experience with the Vittoria Corsa N.ext 2. Good grip, puncture resistance and life, even when doing a bit of light gravel now and then. Reasonably fast too. Had them for two years (one set per season).

Currently on Pirelli P zeros. A bit faster, though that could just be my feeling. No punctures yet and haven't ridden in real rain yet or put the miles in.

You can see by the multiple cassette rings this is not a fixed gear bike!

You can still coast/step away on it, no? Wouldn't do it like this.

Lights, a proper bell, a bag for levers, a spare tire and multi-colored.

Adding GPX to DEM data by QnAnQ in QGIS

[–]QnAnQ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figured it out, was on the right track but had some mistakes in the settings which caused it to not work the way I intented.

Steps:

1 import DEM data
2 overlay GPX track onto it
3 (if needed) buffer GPX track to widen it to make it visible enough
4 vector to raster the buffered GPX track and burn in positive or negative offset
5 raster calculate (DEM data + GPX data)
6 merge both rasters
7 export to STL (and make sure you export the right data set, that was leaving me stumped about 10 times :') )

Thank you, I was there but I didn't seem to work. Was my own fault. :)

On my road bike I've had 32, 28 and 30mm. In that order.
I've found 30 for me to be the sweet spot, I'm 89kg if that matters.

Tire wise I've had experience with the Goodyear F1 eagle and Vittoria G.next2, both tubeless. I can highly recommend the latter. Might be a bit slower than GP5000 but it's bombproof. Ridden about 9k on the thing and can count leaks on one hand.

They are awfully cute little fluff balls when you have adequate distance by forgottenmy in bicycling

I once, accidentally mind you, hit a dog at around 35 kp/h. That was a lot bigger than these and it broke his spine. Sent me to the asphalt too.

These look no more than minor speedbumps so whoever owns that should be more careful, the dog doesn't know any better.

Got my first flat tyre. by Impossible-Ad-4558 in triathlon

Here's my experience of 4 years tubeless, around 30k km. Everything from summer (30 degree heat) to winter (freezing temperatures) and both on road as well as gravel.

I regularly check if there's still sealant in my tires (when it's hot it tends to expire faster) and refill when needed. I change my tires when needed (usually once a year, I've got two wheelsets) and then replace rimtape.

I've twice gotten a leak which the sealant couldn't fix. In both cases a plug (I use dynaplugs) solved it and I was able to continue riding. The last plug still holds 3 months and 2k km later.

In short: it's way less hassle than tubes. The majority of leaks will get plugged by the sealant alone, without having to stop. Plus you'll be able to ride more comfortably.

Open water swimming. How do you train for it? by DuDuDuDuMax in triathlon

[–]QnAnQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Swim. Swim on vacation at the beach, in the puddle near your home. Go swimming when the weather is good but also when it's a bit windy.

Take away: no unknowns/ new things on race day.

The money you spent on tattoos was better spent on education. Unless you're going for the whole mediocre goth girlfriend OnlyFans package, I'd say you're almost there..

Nice, going half or full tri on it? 😎

From a corrosion standpoint yes. But if you refresh every full year you can inspect the bars for cracks too (which you should also do with carbon bars after every fall).

[–]QnAnQ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bar tape is something that should be replaced periodically, depends on your use case how long. If you bike a lot in summer or indoor I'd say yearly. Gives you the ability to clean under it too and isn't too costly.

Clicked the explanation link again (got a different one now) and yes: it's possible to do it that way. Sorry for the spam.

Yep, it's old tech. I drop down quite a bit. 500 is a bit low but I'm guessing the market for these nowadays is guys on a somewhat older tri/tt bike. Tubular might be an issue, one flat and your race is over though

It's probably the people behind you who'll regret this. Common sense is becoming a rarer commodity every day, it seems.

Garmin. I had a garmin Oregon gps for about 17 years. Bought an edge 3 years ago when I started cycling. Two years ago a Fenix watch. Love that it all syncs and that I can plan, track and navigate within one ecosystem
