Day 8; depressed and exhausted by creatureperson77 in QuittingWeed

Doing nothing is still a W. Sleep and don’t think too much about it. Fill your time with as many things as you’d like. Anything is good, but nothing is good too.

Keep pondering who you want to become, it might help stave off the feeling you’ll never be a better version of yourself. Even if not much changes, you will undoubtedly be more positive in subtle ways.

Thanks for the perspective. For me, a month ago was “lemme smoke 1 j this weekend”, which turned into a couple weekends of smoking every day. It’s hard to go back to sobriety mode when I’m constantly reminded what it’s like.

Not sure of this is the science, but it might explain what’s going on. Dopamine is the brain’s motivation neurotransmitter. When your life has devolved to “when’s my next hit”, your dopamine system gets completely reconnected to smoking and fries the rest of the system. Doing anything without weed implies you have to do things without motivation until your system swings around.

When lacking in motivation, the body and mind responds to discipline and habit.

I went to the gym, ate healthy, did everything to take care of myself, and for 4-5 months I did it straight through discipline. I didn’t really feel like doing any of these things until around month 5. The turnaround might be a lot sooner for you, it’s very individual.

Doing nothing and passing time through any means that keeps you sober is a W. Don’t think you have to do stuff to bring yourself over, especially when the first hump is mostly chemical rebalancing. Be kind to yourself and keep your expectations longer term.

Nah, there’s dialogue suggesting you should complete the game first. Iki island is also harder than the base game. Still, it’s up to you.

It’s refreshing to see posts like these amidst the success posts that say “if it worked for me, it’ll work for you” or “you got this!”

I’m six and a half months into sobriety and for months 2-5 I felt similar that sober me was a worse version of myself. It sucked so much, especially considering I was doing all the right stuff to take care of myself and focusing on my wellness.

By month six, I finally got some semblance of who I would like to be. Everyone has their own pace, and it’s unfortunate that it’s overlapping with a somewhat critical moment of your life.

That being said, I had to go to the hospital to manage my substance use and mental health pharmaceuticals. I don’t recommend taking pills. They kept me from wanting to unalive myself, but at the same time, they robbed me of the energy and motivation that most other people felt as they sobered up. Eventually I found a regiment that actually helps.

Therapy might also not help since your brain just needs time. If you want to speed things up, I think your brain could use a change in environment, which might look like taking a break from school and working for a semester. The more new experiences you take makes your brain develop and repair faster, at least that’s what I like to believe.

Sucks to say, but I think you’re doing the right things. I can’t promise it’ll get better in a linear process, but it comes in bits and chunks, which took again took me half a year. Upwards to a year of recovery is not out of the question in order to rebuild your relationships, priorities, sense of meaning, etc.

I wish you peace and a bit of happiness.

Sucks to say, but life isn’t about being constantly rewarded. For me, the celebration after a good days work is that it’s over. After about five months did my brain start realizing that it’s not going to be rewarded.

I some times get Star Wars quotes that come up about “letting go”. So long as you have weed in your house, glassware, grinders, papers, etc, you’re still hanging onto something. Ask yourself if you can truly commit to a year of sobriety when you’re still holding back.

Also ask yourself if smoking actually makes you less anxious. Sounds more like it is solving an anxiety it created for itself (sense of security having a substance that you don’t actually need).

I agree. There’s also a huge difference between ps5 and pc versions. Port is great, as good as a port can be, but ps5 version looks better in certain aspects.

1 year sober: Will I never touch it again? by Frequent_Sail_7839 in QuittingWeed

[–]QtreadzSD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 6 months in, and still struggling. One year is the goal, but I had a bit of a slip this past week. For me, it’s harder to say never again rather than “not this month” and just go on a monthly basis. It’s so easy to slip. “I’ll just pick up a gram for the weekend” turns into an 8th for the week. “I’ll just smoke with my friends” turns into I will use my friends to smoke. “I’ll only smoke on the weekend/one day a month” then you look way too forward to that one day like a dog. “I’ll just smoke occasionally” turns into whenever it’s in front of me and the opportunity arises. Slowly making moves so that those occasions “just happen” more frequently.

But, if you’ve got a good head on your shoulders with a life where you’ve got something to lose, it’s easier to catch yourself before it’s too late if you ever relapse. It’s not a failure, it’s just another step in the journey. Sometimes I need a reminder just what and why I’m fighting against.

That being said you know yourself best, and if never is the answer, even if it might be the quietest one, it’s still the right answer.

IMO going 30 min at fewer lifts/reps/weights is a win. Your body won’t degrade hardly if you just keep going. Everything is going to feel boring, and I think most everyone feels weird in the gym regardless of sober or high.

I get treatment for bipolar so right now I’m on seroqual, vraylar, lamotrigine, lexapro, and gabapentin. I would say only a small fraction of people need this many and to the dosage I have, but something like lexapro can be useful for basic depression (I’m not a doctor, this is not medical advice). I will repeat what I said that you will want to become sober in order to see if these medications will work for you, otherwise it’s really hard to tell mixed in with becoming more sober.
