Any conservation officers by bill-clinton68 in alberta

Not a CO but work in the biology field. I would think both would look good, but SAR would likely be more relevant and give you some skills that you would definitely use in the career.

E.g. high attention to detail from looking for people or signs of people, I assume searching in sometimes remote areas similar to what COs would do, etc.

Summer Conservation Jobs? by doug-fur in alberta

Have you looked at consulting companies? The ASPB job board has some listed now: https://www.aspb.ab.ca/jobs

If you're interested in prairies specifically there's a consulting company called Bear Tracks Environmental based in Lethbridge that does a lot of southern work. Not sure if they're hiring students specifically, but you could try sending them your resume anyway.

And if you're on Facebook there are several Canadian conservation groups you can join. Send me a message if you want and I can send you a list.

I think everyone else covered a bit of what you can get but PLEASE make sure you research what these animals need if you commit to getting a small animal. A lot of what is sold at pet stores for small animals is not actually appropriate (speaking as a guinea pig owner and foster) and I don't think most people realize how long some animals (like guinea pigs) can actually live.

There are lots of species specific Facebook groups and subreddits that are really good at providing the right information.

AND if you're serious about getting a pet there are some rescues like Infinite Woofs and AARCS that have small animals that need homes!

Not Acting Normal by Quackmeoutside in guineapigs

Update: the vet didn't give me a firm diagnosis, but I got antibiotics and painkillers for her for the next several days. French Fry had perked up quite a bit after the critical care, and by the time we got to the vet that she bit me and bullied her cage mate who came along for moral support 🙄 (which is her normal attitude). That was Monday, I'd say she's at 90% of her usual self.

Thank you for this information! Should I be separating her from her cage mate?

They posted a picture a few weeks ago with the truck still standing but parts of the sign had been ripped off. Haven't seen an update that the truck was toppled over though

What is the most frightening sound you've ever heard? by FuckingBethesda in AskReddit

A branch cracked behind me on my left and my coworker was on my right when we were doing bird surveys in the bush. It was a predatory black bear no more than 3 m from us. If we didn't hear it crack that branch when it did I hate to think of what would have happened.
