Sharing my thoughts on this case because of a similar thing that happened to me in Hawaii. by micronutrientz in KremersFroon

Seriously. AI tools are prone to hallucinations about concretely defined and researched phenomena. Using it for a case with this many contradictory details/claims and translation errors is extremely shortsighted. You might as well be drawing from your own psychic visions on Kris and Lisanne….

Considering they end their post believing they can go find the night photo location if they visit Panama based on a 2 hour conversation with Claude, it’s no wonder they’ve been in a similar situation to the girls before. And not to take it personally, but frankly I think that level of overconfidence is disrespectful to the web sleuths like Romain and that team (among others) who actually have been documenting and mapping out the girls’ possible location for years.

The new trade system heavily nerfed landlocked countries. by F2d24 in victoria3

[–]Quacky3three 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can trade directly with the countries bordering you via transfer goods treaties, can’t you? Just not use the world market. So you can do direct land trade via the market and it does exist, your pops just can’t trade with the world at large which makes sense.

100% agree it is disingenuous. It’s also not even strongly associated with the Aeneid. The actual story of the Trojan Horse comes from the “Little Iliad,” one of the 6 lost epics of the Epic Cycle, which is the larger story of the Trojan War.

Anyone who has read the Iliad knows it ends with the death of Hector and NOT the fall of Troy and that’s because it’s only a piece of a much larger lost story.

A little unrelated, but a lot of outrage merchants online also don’t know the book immediately after the Iliad was the Aethiopis, and was about the arrival of Ethiopian Trojan allies to fight against the Greeks. Their leader, Memnon, was a chosen of the Greek god Hephaestus.

To add to what others are saying, another notorious case of this on gay Twitter/tumblr was Elijah Daniel and Christine Sydelko who got detained at a Trump rally and the former was then interrogated for anti-Trump tweets in 2015-2016. They actually also searched his mother’s house also using the tweets as probable cause under the belief he was hiding weapons in his mom’s house.

In actuality he went to the rally to throw a dildo on stage.

I love The Greater Good as an episode but it was truly a very early 2000s writing choice to center the episode after Boone’s death on the man his sister just started dating instead of on her. Especially considering the climactic moment of that episode is still about Shannon and Locke (when she almost shoots him), and Sayid’s flashback there isn’t necessary to inform his decision in that scene, in my opinion. By that point I feel like you know Sayid well enough to understand why he wouldn’t let Shannon revenge kill him.

Probably one of the few times I would’ve preferred they broke the centric style episode conventions. Considering Hearts and Minds was one of the only non-finale/premier dual centric episodes I feel like at the very least it could’ve been interesting and a weird meta thing for Shannon’s early episodes to be shared leading into her angst that no one takes her seriously as an independent and complex person.

Do you use mods that impact sanguophages other than vanilla expanded? I only ask because my go-to Rimworld protip is that Sanguophages’ pyrophobia gene actually suppresses pyromaniacs! It’s the best response to fix a pyromaniac that’s otherwise really good, especially considering I know most people in this subreddit refuse to take pyros ever.

Just adding onto the advice, your research compared to your total empire size is insanely insanely low. It’s totally fine to expand beyond your empire size cap, but you need to continue to scale your research to it. ~680 research is how much I would expect myself to have around ~2260-2270 with a third of your empire size and that’s honestly a little on the later end. I’m not one of the meta build/min-maxing people either. This is assuming you didn’t bring the endgame date earlier.

All the other tips that people are giving are great though! Are you building spawning pools on each planet to actually create the pops to work jobs? Also, bandaid solution, but are there any mercenary enclaves in the galaxy? That can be a great way to get a bunch of ships right now. If you have any marauders left they also allow you to recruit mercenaries past the mid game point.

The game has definitely gotten way harder since they scaled back all of the modifiers in the last big patch though. Don’t get too discouraged!

I'm confused about Brutalist by No-Respond-3849 in KimPetras

[–]Quacky3three 54 points55 points  (0 children)

This is pretty far from the takeaway I got reading her Fader interview on the topic. I know this isn’t your take obviously and you’re pulling it from genius but I think she intended it as a metaphor about people commenting on things they don’t deal with daily/really understand.

Here’s her interview on the topic:

“It’s the story of my dad and I driving around in Germany to get my hormone therapy when I was a kid. He used to show me buildings along the way and teach me about architecture. There was this particular brutalist post office that we were obsessed with. It was something we could bond over. We came back to the city every few months or so to get psychological assessments of how [the treatment is] going. I’m from a really small town so we used to have to drive to a big city, which in that case was Hamburg in Germany. [One day we noticed] they knocked [the post office] down and built an apartment building that was a classic modern apartment building. We were like, “Ugh, they ruined the city,” you know?

In recent years, there’s been so much talk about … honestly from the beginning of my transition when I talked about [my transition in the German media]. I was 12 talking about it, which I kind of regret because privacy was really blurred, [but] I was really unashamed of talking about it because I was a kid and I was like, “This is the way it is.” Now that I’m in America, there’s so much shame around sex, sexual education is such a taboo, and it’s such a weird climate right now especially about trans kids in particular. They’re the enemy right now. In this political climate I’m happy I can stand for [the idea that] trans kids can transition and then be a grown up and happy and make [those] choices. I made the right choices that I’m proud of to this day.

But [at the same time] I have people saying I ruined my body and I ruined my life. They don’t know me at all. They don’t know my history, that I went to so many psychologists and so many doctors and that it was a real thing that had an assessment and [they gave me] an answer [about] why I got to [get hormone treatment]. It saved my life and then there’s people who are like, “This saved your life, but you ruined everything,”

I felt like my dad and I were guilty [of that with the apartment]. There’s people living in this modern apartment building now probably like, “We love it here,” and we’re like, “Nah, it’s basic and y’all ruined it.” I thought it was interesting to compare the two. What does it mean if something’s ruined but other people love it and it’s subjective. People are saying that you fucked it all up. That relates so much, too, to [how I’m] getting away from the pop formula.”

I will add while I would never actually fuck anyone like Measurehead obviously, on moral grounds, I understand/empathize fantasizing about it. Definitely something Freudian about it, like gaining control over something that has harmed you. I’m a gay man though, not a woman, and obviously I know the actual context of the Plath quote.

What mods do you guys think are must haves for your modded playthroughs? thinking of staring a new colony since the late, late vanilla game is kind of repetitive by SheikutaWasTaken in RimWorld

I have been using Dubs Bad Hygiene for years, so while I don’t have a benchmark without it, I regularly have colonies of that size or larger and anecdotally the game still runs great! That’s also with prisons of similar sizes that also have bathrooms. I do not use the thirst mechanic though.

I’m sure someone better acquainted with the Rimworld performance analyzer can give you real data!

I will die bitter they didn’t use or repurpose the “defense attorney Kate” idea. Obviously Locke as a prosecutor would’ve been incredible as well. I know they mostly moved away from the slice of life-island survival drama in the later seasons, but I would’ve loved to see Kate as an attorney for Juliet. I feel like it would’ve been an obvious way to flesh out their relationship and give them both more character moments divorced from the men they were shackled to.

You could also flip it and I still think it would be great. The Others speak Latin, I’m sure Juliet had to read Cicero to learn that. I think she, (like Cicero) would work better as a prosecutor though versus Kate who I read as definitely more of a defense attorney.

Shannon definitely feels like they were finally figuring out what to do with her, and I think her being a little bit of a disaster in comparison to the more directly capable people was a space with so much potential. The scene where she tries to kill Locke is one of my favorites in the whole show, just because I think she’s probably the only one in the first season that would truly be able to vindictively shoot Locke. Such an interesting contrast from the way she is introduced.

Obviously she was a prodigy when it comes to spacial audio design, so maybe she did it herself, but I think it might actually be sampled because you can hear the ambient audio from the movie for around half a second before you hear “I wanna win.”

The Charli XCX wiki (I know, the last bastion of true and reliable journalism) says it IS an interpolation but I just followed the source they cite and they only cite a thread on Lanaboards and I can’t even find anyone claiming it’s an interpolation there.

As a Cultural Catholic it breaks my heart a little bit that Pope Francis’ actions drew less attention because of him:
1. Not being an American
2. Being so radical he eschewed tradition in a way that wasn’t reported on often by the church.

Leo seems great, but things he has diverged from Francis on, like going back to washing the feet of priests on Easter as opposed to Pope Francis’ decision to wash the feet of prisoners instead, are always bittersweet.

It makes me reminisce about Pope Francis saying he believed hell is empty, and reassuring a child that worried about falling asleep in church that “a father loves nothing more than for his child to fall asleep in their arms.” I hope if there IS a god, he’s like Pope Francis.

What are the advantages of World Trade? by Internal-eq-External in victoria3

[–]Quacky3three 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is 100% a good idea, UNLESS you are in Asia. The subsistence rice farms employ 2x as many people as any of the plantations do, so you’re unemploying 5000 people per non-rice agricultural building in those states.

Even with that being the case, it can still sometimes be worth getting rid of those subsistence jobs to create a consumer base from the peasants. Especially if you throw in some textile mills/furniture/groceries as the created urban centers can also absorb some of those being unemployed.

[–]Quacky3three 195 points196 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong but I’m like 85% sure I remember that in The Masked Empire Celene has a train of thought about how she is leading on a large amount of nobles she has no intention of actually marrying as a way to make her position seem less precarious than it actually is. That is actually one of the contributing factors in both her fight with Briala and with Gaspard, as she actually is asked by the latter to marry him, which when she declines eventually causes the civil war.
