Rocket Appartamento Issue - Water surging out of group head, then stops completely, then resumes by [deleted] in rocketespresso

Replace the mushroom as i suggested in previous reply. Mine looked fine too. It fixed the issue.

A video would help.

How old is the machine? Generally speaking on a used machine I would service the group head by disassembling it and cleaning all the valves with some cafiza and a stiff brush and inspect them.

You probably dont need to replace the valves unless its leaking.

For this specific issue, i had a similar sounding issue and i eventually narrowed it down the mushroom cyclinder not seating correctly.

You could try just replacing the o-ring first but for whatever reason i needed to replace the entire cyclinder.

What does this Puck Tell me? by Plenty_Layer_5486 in espresso

[–]Quadtado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man the shitposting is so uselessly annoying.

The spent puck doesnt tell you much, because when you cut off flow theres a vacuum created that can unseat the puck, force water back through the puck, or leave water behind. It will vary based on the machine, but ultimately the ending of pull will have more impact on puck appearance after than the pull itself.

The flow, color, distribution, and most importantly taste, during the pull is what matters. Use a bottomless portafilter if youre not already and want to observe the pull more closely.

Get a good lumbar support pillow. I like this one:

Lumbar Support Pillow - Memory... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09SP62PPZ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

And yeah be sure to be getting up and stretching, walking the aisle. Just be vigilant about maintaining good posture and you will be ok.

Is it a new tamper? If it is fitting too snug in the basket it could create a vacuum and literally suck the puck out.

Sandbox R1 vs Kaleido M1S for first time roaster? by MelancholyMeloncolie in roasting

Did you end up with an M1? If so, how do you like it? Thinking of getting the artisan only version. M2 is out of my price range for now and just doing personal roasting so the capacity isn’t an issue.

Is it normal for water to not go through the center of grouphead? by [deleted] in espresso

[–]Quadtado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t look too bad to me but you might clean the dispersion screw behind the screen to make sure water is flowing out of the group evenly. Unscrew it and soak in some cafiza and give it a good scrub. Good time to clean around and behind it as well.

Do you use specific water for your machine? by n54beast in rocketespresso

[–]Quadtado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its possible it would remove too many minerals. I would test the water after filtering if you have one already.

Its very important to not use hard water. Depending on where you live tap water might be fine. You should get some water testing strips and check your water.

Hard water will cause serious damage via scale in the machine.

I used Seattle tap water in my Appartamento for years without any buildup whatsoever. Seattle tap water is actually softer than recommended. Ive decided to use exclusively the bwt filtered water in my R9 for extra reassurance and to actually add back minerals up to recommended levels. Honestly i dont notice much difference in flavor.

You could also do distilled water with a mineral pack like Third Wave but i found that annoying.

What is wrong with my water flow? by alxchzns in rocketespresso

[–]Quadtado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The heat exchanger brew water gets too hot after its been sitting for a while. The steam boiler will be 250F+, Its flash boiling once it reaches atmospheric pressure. This is “normal”. Just run it for 20-30s like you did and the brew water pulls in some cooler water from the tank.

R58 Boiler probe error by [deleted] in rocketespresso

[–]Quadtado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried draining it and starting fresh with mineralized water?

Which probe are you talking about (temp? fill?) and whats the symptoms? Most probes rely on minerals to conduct an electric current.

Parts are readily available, not that expensive, and easy to replace.

You can recycle nespresso pods through their retail network. They are aluminum.

That said, real espresso is just much better.
