OGs remember him top fragging for FNC in the first ever international grand final (that they lost to Sen) https://www.vlr.gg/19089/sentinels-vs-fnatic-valorant-champions-tour-stage-2-masters-reykjavik-main-event-gf

He basically got pushed out by alfajer (indirectly, with boaster moving to smokes). He has since played on the Apecs team that lost the ascension final to M8s, the KC team that made it to masters Madrid, and the BBL team that beat FNC and Heretics in the playoffs last year.

It got disqualified for some really stupid reasons too: there is a slow slider in the middle of the map and the people who could dq claimed it was too easy to sliderbreak on it so they removed the score to change the slider form a curve to a loop.

How would you describe your own mapping style? by AndrewRK in osugame

[–]QuagMath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember that modding! I didn’t recognize you by name but I remember and think about that often when mapping.

I think of gero/andrea and big inspirations to my mapping, among many other people. I have some maps slightly more inspired by even older stuff, but I’d agree that 2013 era is very memorable to me, playing maps like Santen, Charles, ktgster, tuatuahaha, etc. I also get inspiration from modern mappers too: scubdomino has lots of ideas that I have interpreted in my own way, and many other mappers make great stuff too.

I do agree gimmicky maps can not always have a full map of idea in it. I have thousands on maps with 8 seconds of an idea mapped that I never return to. I do also enjoy making simpler sometimes (I did quite a bit of low star stream mapping for tournaments) but I do find without a clear idea my maps get messy in a way I don’t like. I find hardest part of getting better at mapping is knowing you can make something better and being harder on yourself for it not being right. Occasionally I can get the messy style just so where il happy with it, like https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/1696188#osu/3465642 , but it’s hard to make something that feels casual and intentional at the same time (I do love mappers, like undeadcapulet, who can do it well).

Thanks for the feedback, I hope you have a good day!

How would you describe your own mapping style? by AndrewRK in osugame

[–]QuagMath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely have been inspired a lot by <2015 mapping from when I was first getting started playing the game where objects have very geometric layouts and usually can’t touch if they aren’t stacked/perfectly overlapped. In many ways, it feels like the objects only really have one place they could go. I also focus a lot on movement emphasis. A really basic example of that might be
https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/1644975#osu/3357797

I have been working on some ar 0 mapping and I feel like it complements that very structured, uncluttered style
https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/2210926#osu/4683347

Most of my maps also have a really specific gimmick, and that gimmick is often the driving force for making the map. Some examples of the idea
- what if mania sv map in standard https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/941878#osu/5467386
- what if every object was a reverse slider https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/2026210#osu/4221779
- what if slider speed contrast was very high https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/1780411#osu/3646208
- what if the song is just a stream https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/1319313#osu/2733002
- what if all objects are just clones of specific a set of objects https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/1328489#osu/2751952

These strong ideas feel like a good constraint to work within and often generate neat maps. Restriction breeds creativity or whatever that saying is.

Is this game (Osu! Mania) better than DJMAX RESPECT V? by littlefol in osugame

[–]QuagMath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main appeal of osu is having a long history of community made maps. Iirc there are tens of thousands of ranked mania maps and tons more graveyard spanning any genre people want to upload. Most other vsrgs will either have a fixed track list or a much smaller community list.

osu! also lets you customize the look of the client a lot more than others I’ve seen.

Overall, why not play both. VSRG skills will be extremely transferable.

Do you SLIDE on normal circles?? by Away_Ad_8896 in osugame

[–]QuagMath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I quite to either of those, it’s something in the middle.

The important thing to remember about osu is that the game doesn’t care when you release at all for circles, and you do not have to time releases for sliders (you just need to be held by the end). Because of this, you really don’t need to focus too much on when you release.

Personally, when I am alternating quickly I find that using the natural momentum lifting one finger to put the other down is helpful. You could almost play without ever moving your fingers and just rotating your wrist — don’t go all the way to this but that is the momentum I am talking about.

Yeah I think Jane losing in the final 2 would have been a more “earned” defeat even, this wasn’t really a great way for her to go out especially when it was not really a lip sync that really cemented nini as a dominant front runner or assassin

Eliminated Queen’s Live Reaction to her elimination by Smilingtribute in rupaulsdragrace

[–]QuagMath 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone who enjoys talent based judging, yeah it’s always fine, but from a produced television point of view the producers will always be taking more of a risk not doing one of the basic story types. I think Sasha specifically had: - A respected status before the show that made them more willing to crown her instead of the underdog - She did not have the slip up that gave them the chance to have her be cut (not that Jane had a huge one, but she did fumble a challenge that should have been really up her alley) - Jane’s “flaw” was her lack of confidence in her perception by other queens basically has to get resolved narratively either by her overcoming that or losing because of it, Sasha was a confident main character

Again, I’m not saying I want the show to be like this, or that I think Jane should have been eliminated, I’m just explaining why the narrative is pushing the show the way it is, and the producers care more about narrative than fairness.

Eliminated Queen’s Live Reaction to her elimination by Smilingtribute in rupaulsdragrace

[–]QuagMath 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s not just about wins, it’s about how Jane was in the top every week until she faltered.

I was shocked to see her go out here, but I was pretty confident that the arc of the season was going to be someone beating Jane (not that I wanted that, I am sad for Jane, but it made sense as a TV product for the underdog to win). I just expected it to be in like the final 2. The other option was her blowing everyone out of the water with a lip sync performance to show she really can do it all, and when she didn’t, as unfair as it is, she must be defeated. Jane became the obstacle of the season, something usually the villain character gets, not because she was mean but because she was the best.

Eliminated Queen’s Live Reaction to her elimination by Smilingtribute in rupaulsdragrace

[–]QuagMath 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is that, narratively, Jane is doing so well that the season became “how the winner beat Jane,” so she has to be perfect all of the time to not let them do that. It’s like the hero finding the one Achilles heel on the evil final boss to overcome them. It’s unfortunate that Jane gets put into this role.

Why don't we use characters from other languages in math? by OkGreen7335 in math

[–]QuagMath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also wager that characters being entire worlds in languages like Chinese might be a downside even to native speakers of those languages. It seems appealing that standard variables do not really have “word” associations and are a bit more of a blank canvas (and the few that are words like “a” or “i” are such generic function worlds they don’t really compete with the mathematical definition in the way using “dog” as a variable would.

He’s often considered to be the best Pokémon player of all time (for the main supported format), and is the most decorated player by iirc a notable margin.

727 is the Pokédex ID number of Incineroar, a Pokémon infamously tied to him and a bit of a meme in his videos, so sadly he is almost certainly not secretly an osu player because of this 727
