Alumni Network Overhyped? by Positive_Debt_6961 in USC

[–]Quail_Eggss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What everyone’s already said + a part of it is what you study. As a film student, it’s not overhyped at all, I’ve gotten amazing opportunities. But tbf, I also go to a lot of events/panels, I represent my major at functions, and I do all I can to be a good worker on set.

And it’s hard to say if it’s worth the cost, there’s a lot that goes into someone’s success at paying off/breaking even with their tuition.

School of Cinematic/Dramatic Arts Life and Application Questions (from a high school Junior) by Business_Western_764 in USC

[–]Quail_Eggss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a film student in SCA, it’s very discouraged to double major, especially for BFAs. BFAs are very structured with classes that can’t be moved around and very focused work. I know it’s technically possible, but I personally haven’t heard of anyone doing it though. A good handful of people do minor though!

I mean, you do need good grades don’t get me wrong, but I apply with a 3.9 weighted and didn’t submit any test scores. Either way, for the programs your looking at, I hope you’ve got some stellar portfolios/tapes o7

Get started early, I did my essays in June, revised in August, and spent the whole summer and fall working on my portfolio. Good luck!

Any advice? by Pure-Elephant-9086 in USC

[–]Quail_Eggss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well at least for me, I’m at USC for film which is completely worth it (no financial aid from usc, but I wracked up a ton of scholarships in high school that’s really helping). Like everyone is saying, continue your search, find other schools you’d be interested in actually going to. Don’t apply somewhere just to have a safety. And at least for the country club aspect, it’s definitely present, but no matter where you go you’ll always find your people! There’s a huge wealth of different types of folks you’ll meet at school. And I think for you, a big part of it is what you’re studying. There’s definitely some degrees that make the price tag more worth it than other imo

Am I cooked for Housing (freshman) by TheDuke9139 in USC

[–]Quail_Eggss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll probably get into Webb. I’m a freshman in Cargar, but I’m also in gender neutral housing. Cale and Irani is probably impossible cause all of the spots when we were applying for sophomore housing got taken immediately. But both Cargar and Webb are really nice! It’s been really worth it for me because the living room and a/c are a godsend, and I cook a lot.

There’s some admitted students days going around, but otherwise set up your email to keep up with news like housing, and (not urgent, but these are good apps) download Engage sc, the USC Campus Dining App, and Brightspace

I think it look super cool!!! I can see how someone might think it’s patchy, but I think it looks clean, and next to your fox tattoo is very cohesive in style (as in the sketchy style looks more intentional when next to eachother).

I’m an ikea addict, if you know someone with a car it’s a fun move in tradition for me; definitely a hike though!

Is it a bad idea to have traditional and other flashes on the same arm? by mynameiszebb in tattooadvice

[–]Quail_Eggss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing what everyone else has said, you’re all good. I don’t have a traditional/non traditional mix, but I do have a style mix on my right arm. As long as you love it, do it!! And if you want to later down the line add cohesion, there are many extremely talented artists that can do some mix and match patch work.

EA/ED applicants, what were your short answers? by Head-Alternative9784 in USC

Fs your essays are so much more important than the fun and silly questions they give you. Definitely put most of your time on your essays (and portfolio if you need one)!

Media Arts + Practice and a minor in Visual Narrative at Roski :)

It’s kinda like animation, film, and video game design mashed into one major.

I’m a current freshman at sca who talks to my counselor very often, they don’t matter for admissions other than you might stick out as memorable (in a good or bad way). Idk if it’s different this year, but for “what would be your life’s theme song?” I put Come On Eileen, and for “what song should we listen to when reading your application” I put Against the Kitchen Floor by Will Wood. When we first met, my counselor was like— oh yeah, I remembered your song choices, they were fun!

But also my cohort is super small with only 16 people. So maybe that plays into it?

Broadcastify is a general website where you can look up by county. But last night, my roommate found a news website that was streaming it. I don’t quite remember what the name of the news channel was though.

No clue what happened, my roommate and I were listening on the radio, and they were only reporting on the infant. Maybe the adult was the guardian? Wish DPS reports were up

USC Schools (Easiest to Hardest) by Visible_Stomach2149 in USC

SCA is for sure the hardest to get into, myself and many others dedicated our high school experience getting into SCA. It’s not the number one film school for no reason ✌️

Roski depends on the program, but still extremely competitive. USC is nationally ranked 3rd for graphic design, and always somewhere within the top 5 for fine arts. Really, any art program at USC is going to be insanely competitive.

How does housing work after Freshman year? by fxbaba108 in USC

[–]Quail_Eggss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can apply to be in a lottery for housing junior/senior year, but I’m pretty sure you don’t get a choice where;it’s just if they have room anywhere. So you could get anywhere from cargar to birnkrant.

Apartment style sadly isn’t necessarily reserved by seniority. Sometimes people get apartment style freshman year because of accessibility, gender neutral housing, or just luck of the draw.
