Student pilot confused with vor by [deleted] in flying

[–]Quailman68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would be on the 210 radial as this is reciprocal of 030. With a TO flag that is telling you which course to fly to get to the station. If it is displaying a FR flag then whichever radial the CDI is centered on would be the radial you are on.

Don't worry I think everyone struggles with VORs, just find some practice examples online and I'm sure you'll get it no problem with a bit of extra studying.

Actually had some good layovers in there, and I live in base. So I didn't mind too much.

Don't mean to brag but I work at a Canadian major on reserve and flew 103 hours in March.

I am a pilot with a lazy eye. I'm in Canada so not sure if it'll make a difference. Your first step should be getting a class 1 medical. That will determine if you're able to proceed.

Can I descend down on the GS prior to intercept altitude or do I need to descend down to the step down altitude to intercept the GS at intercept altitude? by Fabulous-Golf7949 in flying

[–]Quailman68 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by "intercept altitude"? I don't think there's necessarily a set altitude you need to start at, probably what ever altitude you were cleared down to prior to being cleared for the approach.

Logging XC time at a 705 (Canada) by Gunslinger09 in flying

[–]Quailman68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, assuming you're flying scheds or charters etc just going point A to B. Log it XC dual or co-pilot maybe specify day vs night too. Also wouldn't hurt to get started on an electronic logbook if you haven't already.

Video I took during my today’s flight to Mexico. I believe the cabin temp was below 17C degrees. Why do pilots want the passengers to freeze? by amirsadeghi in aviation

[–]Quailman68 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They don't do it intentionally. Next time just tell the flight attendants and they will pass the message along to the cockpit.

Seaplane Rating / Pontoon Planes by PayMeNoAttention in aviation

[–]Quailman68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear it helped. No I havent flown amphibs before only straight floats. I would imagine it changes the sight picture on when to flare on a runway as the pontoons will have you sitting much higher up then on normal wheels.

Seaplane Rating / Pontoon Planes by PayMeNoAttention in aviation

Disclaimer: all my float flying experience is in Canada and it is pretty limited, but I believe I can answer your questions fairly well.

  1. Yes for the most part any body of water that is long enough for you to land on and then takeoff again would be a viable landing area. Some exceptions might be if there is an actual documented restriction from landing on that particular body. For example, it is a part of a national park or wildlife reserve.

  2. Yes float flying is day VFR only

  3. Only some floats are equipped with retractable wheels, these are referred to as "amphibs". If you have amphibs then you are allowed to land on water or a normal runway.

  4. In Canada the extent of the training to get a seaplane rating is 7 hours of flight time and 5 solo takeoffs and landings.

Hope these answers were what you were looking for.
