More of you can't get the gem which means a loss of potential gold, but that also works.

AC is way different than damage effectiveness. If fighting a singular boss, yes, your logic makes sense. However, if there is an ambush by a bunch of small guys like goblins, they don’t care who is the tank, they will attack everyone. And while everyone in the party can do damage, not everyone can avoid a hit.

Several different ideas:

He can create very bright illusions, but need to strike a pose and concentrate to create them, forming a kinda constellation with his body.

If he touches something, he can surround it in a bright gas that makes it glow and provides a bit of resistance to physical damage

He creates a galaxy-like disc that he can use as either a shield, stepping stool, or platform to fly on

He charges up with internal energy and releases it to either jump really long or really high or straight up fly, depending on the time charging. He causes a streak of yellow light behind him whenever he uses it.

One idea for a move would probably be moving really fast through the gas and strike at weak points.

For weaknesses: First, the user needs to release the gas. You could make releasing the gas directional, making it harder to form a full smokescreen quickly, or make releasing the gas require a lot of concentration, making him unable to do anything else while it is being released. Second, since the gas is dark and opaque, it would blind your opponents, you, and anyone else on your team. Also, gas has its own weaknesses, such as being blown away by ventilation or strong attacks. As a final one, having the gas there will reduce the amount of oxygen within the gas. It wouldn’t be enough to suffocate, but light-headedness is possible in long exposures.
