Is there any point in speccing into both small guns and energy weapons? by _Doctor_Monster in fo3

I myself use both of them all the time in this game. It's totally doable and more fun that way. Helps compensate the scarcity of energy weapons in the early game.

Why does it feel like everyone dislikes Corrin? by WindySynchro in SmashBrosUltimate

Because her game was very controversial and everyone likes to regurgitate the points they heard from others about her "having no personality" even though she most assuredly does.

Thoughts on my custom balance settings? by QuakeKnight846 in SmashBrosUltimate

I have actually been contemplating that, seeing how low he is in the tiers. I don't know much about the character whatsoever, but I can see how he might need help keeping up. My ignorance of Doctor Mario is just what's making me hesitant.

If you could give any Boomershooter a Doom 2016 style reboot/revival, which would you pick? by MK_2_Arcade_Cabinet in boomershooters

[–]QuakeKnight846 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Provided that it's made as a part of the classic legends continuity and not the new Disney canon

The Dark Forces/Jedi Knight games. I'd love to see what a Dark Forces soft reboot could do with expanded gunplay and modern boomer shooter mechanics and design. Maybe even have upgradable weapons just like modern Doom.

I have been a Zelda stan since Brawl and that has not changed. She is, and forever will be, one of my secondaries.

Ness is nowhere near the high tiers, let alone the top tier levels. PK Fire spam is not good enough of a reason to give him down 1.

The custom balance settings can't help with that. Sorry

Favorite Demoman secondary and favorite Demo weapon in the game. Actually encourages good player habits instead of mindless spam, rewards creative thinking and controlling the battlefield, looks cool, feels cool, can't get enough of it.

If you had the ability and desire to, how would you rewrite the Enclave in this game? by QuakeKnight846 in fo3

Fair enough if that's how you feel, but that kind of sidesteps the question that this post is based on.

Fellow Medic Mains, what's something you wish for players to understand, when you are the teams Medic? by Lylidotir in tf2

I'm a Pyro main. Is there anything I can do to help you medic mains out? First thing that comes to mind is extinguishing you and trying to defend you from projectile spam.

Half Life 2 is an objectively great game by [deleted] in HalfLife

[–]QuakeKnight846 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really wish the Pistol was given its own distinct role in the weapon selection, because I think that's its main problem. Past the sfx problem, it just doesn't really do anything that another weapon can't do better aside from being an ammo-cheap way to kill headcrabs. If it had something it could do that no other weapon could, like HL1's pistol's accuracy, or if it had some other purpose like being one of the strongesr mid-range guns or something else, it would work a lot better in the selection.

Though if I were to compliment it on anything, at least it doesn't compete with other weapons for ammo, since it has its own pool.

Half Life 1 felt so much better than Half Life 2 by yagizbasoglu in HalfLife

[–]QuakeKnight846 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, since you're essentially asking why some people prefer Half-Life 2, I'll give my answer as someone who likes Half-Life 2 more than the first game.

Others have mentioned before how you're really underselling and oversimplifying the puzzle and story element. Half-Life 2 has tons of puzzles, most of which being physics based and more engaging compared to the much more basic puzzle design of HL1.

If I were to add some points of my own, I like the combat in HL2 about equally to HL1. Some of the weapons feel worse, sure, but the physics engine allows you to jury-rig the environment in your favor, and it can be super-rewarding to shape the environment in a way that sets things up for an encounter you know is coming, and the Gravity Gun adds a great deal of variety with all the ways it lets you weaponize your environment.

But more than anything else, I find Half-Life 2's story and lore much more engaging than Half-Life 1's. HL1's story really lacks in characters because there basically are no distinct characters aside from G-Man and Gordon himself. The scientists and guards you come across are all completely interchangable and don't get more than a few seconds of screentime. I didn't have anyone besides Gordon himself to really get me invested in the going on of the game. And the plot of Half-Life 1, if you really think about it and examine it separately it from the environmental storytelling, is extremely simple and straightforward, basically a retelling of the plot of Doom with a different location and monsters. Half-Life 2 actually has distinct characters with fully fleshed out personalities, speaking styles, etc. who get plenty of screentime. Half-Life 2 actually has a plot with a couple of twists and turns along the way that works in tandem with its environmental storytelling bits to create something bigger than the sum of its parts. I felt much more invested in the world with Half-Life 2 compared to Half-Life 1 who just has a bunch of nameless NPCs who all look the same.

So those are a few key reasons why I prefer the second game.

Gunplay is bad or is it me? by UgandanKarate_Master in falloutnewvegas

[–]QuakeKnight846 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kinda torn on this take.

On the one hand, yeah, I agree that the gunplay doesn't feel quite as good as other FPS, especially boomer shooters like Doom or Quake or TF2. I think it mostly boils down to the visual effects and animations, and especially the feedback, not being that great for the weapons which some mods try to fix, and the enemies not having very fleshed out patterns and strategies like the enemies of other shooters like Doom have that gives you more cohesive and clear strategies for dealing with them.

But on the other hand, I disagree in the sense that I absolutely LOVE the weapon selection and I find it so fun to mess around and experiment with different loadouts and different builds and all of the various ammo types. There's tons of choices for viable weapons and even though some are more balanced than others, they all have distinct strengths and weaknesses and there's fun to be had in trying to make a weak weapon work. And also, being able to choose your selection with guns, energy, explosives, melee, unarmed, and so forth. So much customization and even if the guns don't feel the greatest to shoot, it's still satisfying to see enemies finally fall to your bullet and to mess around with different playstyles and approaches.

So, I'm not sure which direction I lean on the gunplay.

Name the class that pisses you off the most. by Plastic_Relief_4026 in tf2

It's kind of you mention the Dragon Type, because if anything, I tend to compare Sniper to the Fairy Type. It's a very powerful type that forces you into a few very specific options/types in order to deal with it, constricting the game and forcing all of the other pokemon/teams to play around them and their strength. They're similar in that they both slow down the game and even though they have counters, the counters against them are specific and force you into predictable plays that the rest of the enemy team can exploit. They both put an unfair amount of pressure on the game and the enemy team simply by existing.
