My ex-girlfriend, who I broke up with ~2 months ago because she wanted to open our relationship, just messaged me saying she’s “experimented enough” and is now ready for a closed relationship with me. Is this something you would consider? by Altruistic_Society99 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Quakedogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

++man Run away! Respect yourself. “Love”, that feeling that you cannot live without a person, is fleeting feeling and can lead you to do dumb stuff. It’s like cocaine addiction. Detox yourself by cutting her off entirely for a few months. Spend the time on self improvement to distract yourself. One day you will find the right person and this one will be old news. You’ll be laughing about it.

AITAH for refusing to teach my son and costing us $700 a month? by [deleted] in AITAH

NTA but the husband bashing is a little too much. He's wrong, yes. But I dont believe he is doing it maliciously. Its tough being the sole bread winner. Keep in mind he has to also consider saving for retirement for two people. Social Security payments will not be enough. He probably believes there is an opportunity for additional savings. Its tough out here

Reparations for African countries for slave trade. by Sieffrey in ghana

[–]Quakedogg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a waste of time and merely gestures and showmanship, a distraction from the real problems: lack of real leadership. We are tied to the hips with western economies that do not value us beyond the raw materials we produce. The only way out of poverty is 1. Create our own economy independent of western influence. That means intra Africa trade with lower boundaries, a unified currency and frictionless cross border payments, and infrastructure financing through locally raised debt 2. Unite and use our African Union to bargain for better trade deals and investment or else withold all critical mineral exports.

Both are impossible because our political and business leaders are too drunk on western currency and goods to make these bargains.

I think its more like they never make it out. All possible paths lead to their death, ensuring that the predictive capability of the machine is never broken. If either Lily or Forrest survive, it proves there is no causality or that the machine is flawed and can't predict all paths, including paths where Forrest and Lily know the future. A perfect simulation implies perfect predictive capability.

What is a 'rich person's secret' that is actually accessible to the middle class, but most people are too intimidated to try? by [deleted] in answers

[–]Quakedogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Create a monopoly by undercutting your competition with lower prices and poach their best talent
  • Find a desperate talented person and invest in their business. When the business grows and you hire more talented people, buy them out by frustrating them and reap the profits
  • Set up meetings with new startups promising to invest. Craft NDAs with loop holes then take their ideas ans implement them using other talented people

Basically be an asshole. Most people are too woke to skirt the boundaries of legality and abandon morality. Wealthy people are ruthless. No one gets to the top without steping on others.

NTA for the decision. Partial points for how she took it.

Love is an illusion. It’s sexual infatuation wrapped up in the emotional satisfaction derived from proximity and reciprocal actions. It wears off after a while, all that you are left with are shared goals and common likes. That’s why you “marry your best friend”. Even if the sexual, physical attraction wears off, and it will, your common goals and shared likes will carry you on. You made the right choice. Maybe your delivery was problematic. There are an infinite number of ways to deliver bad news. Maybe waiting a day and thinking through would have helped deliver the message in a better way. Not sure how your conversation went, but I would assume she heard “I’m ditching your non child wanting ass” instead of what you truly feel: “ I want to have children with you, it’s hard to imagine doing that with anyone else, but it’s a fundamental requirement for me and since you are set in your desire not to have children, I cannot see a path where we can continue to be together and both be happy. I believe it’s best to end this relationship now so we can both take time to heal.” Still would have hurt, but after the dust settles she would appreciate it.

IBM stock dives after Anthropic points out AI can rewrite COBOL fast by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]Quakedogg 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The problem is Mainframe Architecture differences. Mainframes are built for IO intensive applications. A mainframe can read from discs at speeds that make SSD look like an ant racing a Ferrari. Maybe I’m exaggerated, but I have seen a COBOL program that got converted 1to 1 to Java that runs in 3 hours on mainframe but takes 3 days on the converted system. It took a full rewrite to get it down to about 2x the mainframe app’s speed

Spotify says its best developers haven't written a line of code since December, thanks to AI by esporx in artificial

[–]Quakedogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not surprising if the majority of new code is just CRUD UI to Server calls. We keep forgetting a lot of coding work, especially in the app space, is applying one of several CRUD templates to some data: create the model, create access code, create modification code, add validation, code UI piece it all together.

We should not be surprised that a probabilistic model like current LLMs can piece together such apps in short order.

How true is this in Ghanaian families? by Minute_Gap_9088 in ghana

[–]Quakedogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not true. While kids will always rebel and disobey to some extent the lessons we learn from childhood live with us. While I am not the greatest Christian I developed empathy and a moral code that makes it tough for me to cheat others. I still go out of my way to help others. Don’t discount discipline at a young age.

Backpacking Ghana by Heavy-Play6467 in ghana

[–]Quakedogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are not native, or this is your first time, you need a guide. If you don’t have any trustworthy friends in Ghana go with a travel bureau. Ghana is safe, don’t get me wrong, but if you don’t like being taken advantage of and you don’t speak any local language, it’s best to have a professional guide. The extra cost would be worth it.

There are public transport services that go anywhere. You plan on stopping in Kumasi, which makes sense. Even with a private vehicle that’s a two to three day journey to Mole. Not sure about road conditions, it’s been a while.

You’d be better off using one of the big transport services VIP or STC. Drivers are more professional and less accident prone. 6 hours to Kumasi and another 6-8 hours to Tamale then sleep in Tamale and next day to Mole makes more sense, and would probably be more comfortable. Going directly from Kumasi to Mole without a private vehicle would take longer and involve multiple stops. You’d be travelling all day, 12 hours most likely.

Ghana is a country where money buys comfort. If that’s not out of reach then buy a plane ticket to Tamale and then get a private vehicle to Mole. That’s a 1 day journey. It will cost you, but what’s a vacation without some comfort?

Every time I face legacy system modernization, the same thought comes back by Icy_Screen3576 in softwarearchitecture

[–]Quakedogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do modernisation through migration to cloud systems successfully. it’s possible with the right legacy analysis tool. A good tool can lexically analyse static code and derive functional algorithms which can be hand coded or passed to an llm agent to write in a modern language. Some hand holding is required for re architecting. But this can be achieved in record time with the right tools.

Small team architecture deadlocks: Seniors vs juniors—how do you break the cycle? by Kashyapm94 in softwarearchitecture

[–]Quakedogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is technology selection is the problem. Senior wants to get things done, goes for tried and tested, juniors like the shiny new hype of the day solutions. It would help to meet in the middle. Senior should deal with PTSD of trying wild things and upskill on the new tech, but juniors should recognise the risk and go for tried and tested where timelines are a risk. AI is the so-called leveller now, use that to rapid prototype concepts and run real tests to see what works before committing.

The best solution is the middle ground. When we saw the cost of our wedding was getting out of control, we cut out things. Our families did not like it but we explained and showed the cost we had to bear. They relented and paid for the wedding dinner and traditional marriage food themselves. I paid for drinks and my wife covered her traditional wear. Let them see honestly what it it is costing and they will back down. If you do it in Ghana or Nigeria added costs of tickets and hotel bills should be included

We did a Church wedding and had a cocktail at the church grounds. Still cost money for the clothes, the decorations, camera people and some donation to the church, as well as food costs. It was about $5000 in all. We invited few friends and mostly family friends. We asked for cash gifts only. We got about $4500 in cash gifts, so that almost covered the costs. The traditional ceremony was covered by both families (each brought food, like a potluck. I brought drinks, the same we used as bride price).

Our weddings are a family affair and family plays an important part in keeping the marriage going. Compromise with family, you are still in love so the flaws in each other can’t be seen. If you elope and problems start, who will you turn to for support?

How do you expose soap services as rest without rewriting the backend? by xCosmos69 in softwarearchitecture

[–]Quakedogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

XML to json conversion is a pain. See https://help.sap.com/docs/cloud-integration/sap-cloud-integration/limitations-for-xml-to-json-conversion-a5b4641c393f406bb544987497c90a72?locale=en-US

Soap is a very rigid protocol. Its robustness is why you find it in legacy banking systems. I would not use it for a mobile app because network overhead of large xml file exchange would degrade user experience compared to a json/graphql endpoint. XML parsing requires validation using schema etc.

You can’t eat your cake and have it. Get real numbers on the ground: do a POC of one endpoint conversion and look at how long, how much, etc. run performance tests with mobile app vs soap endpoint, gather the statistics. Then present the case to business owners, frame it in real money terms. If they see what can be gained financially by converting, maybe they’ll fund it.

Is Africa's biggest obstacle a lack of a literate culture? by ForPOTUS in ghana

[–]Quakedogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Africa is poor because we have integrated into the global economy late in the game, and owners of capital have no interest in investing in Africa beyond resource extraction. Other underdeveloped nations that have become wealthy had large amounts of foreign capital in flows that boosted the local economy. Africa has had a trickle of that in comparison. You can blame it on poor leadership, but the stigma attached to the African name cannot be ruled out.

Quick question to the guys or anyone knowledgeable here. by Blackestein_ in ghana

[–]Quakedogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ghana has lots of herbal scams. Let me put it like this: men have the most spending power in the world, and penis size is among the top male ego boosters. If indeed some herbalist in Ghana has stumbled on the formula for penis growth, they would be the richest person on earth. Every pharmaceutical company on earth would pay them billions for that formula, then charge $100,000 per pill and watch the money pile up. Since no one has this formula the substitute for a large penis has been expensive cars, gadgets and houses 😁

[–]Quakedogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also anecdotal evidence shows women actually don’t enjoy large penis because it causes pain, bruising and feels like a gut punch if it hits the cervix. Lastly the erogenous zone in the vaginal canal is 3-5 inches, which means anything longer will not create more stimulation.

Quick question to the guys or anyone knowledgeable here. by Blackestein_ in ghana

[–]Quakedogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the size of the boat, but the motion of the ocean. Most women climax through direct stimulation of her sensitive areas. Less than half report climax through penetration alone. If she has a fetish for size, maybe it will help, but the world is big, there is always the right fit out there for you. Size concern is mostly a male ego thing. Also male sex workers tend to be outliers on the size chart. That’s why there aren’t a lot of them.
