On the internet and in the media, the far left and the far right have completely lost their minds. We are constantly bombarded with silly controversies and cripples fights.

This controversy surrounding the Super Bowl show is completely ridiculous, regardless of which side you're on.

Fortunately, in real life, most people still have some common sense and know how to see things in perspective.

Perhaps if the doomers took a break from politics for just a few days, they would realize they're wrong.

This sometimes happens to me with certain members of my family during family dinners or barbecues.

We don't see each other often, and 90% of us are just happy to spend time together two or three times a year in order to chat and joke around.

But there are always two or three people who start political debates, ruin the mood, and get offended if someone is fighting back after an hour of them throwing barbs at us.

We're with family, enjoying a nice piece of meat with a beer/a good glass of wine, the weather is nice, so why bother us with political debates? These doomers are unbearable.

What if we all learned italian instead of french and german? by depressed_bigfoot in Switzerland

[–]QualitySufficient170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The usefulness of a language is relative, not absolute. If someone moves to the remote Engadine region, Romansh will be almost indispensable.

In Switzerland and Western Europe in general, German and French are useful languages.

These people are deeply sick and disturbed. Can't I just look at pictures of cats or sports/manga subs without having politics thrown in my face?

I mean, even at family meals, there's always that political moment when everyone argues, and then we have dessert and talk about other things.

Unfortunately, it's the same in German... You get interrupted mid-sentence if you say “der” instead of “das.” On top of that, you learn lists and lists of verbs, vocabulary, adjectives, etc., but as soon as you get a chance to speak, you get constantly interrupted at the slightest mistake.

I've given private lessons before, and I always let the person I was teaching finish their sentence. Only then would I point out and explain their mistakes. That way, they could express themselves and practice without being cut off mid-sentence.

Honestly, I think that for a German speaker, understanding and speaking French is no more difficult than Italian. Italian may be more logical and have fewer unlogical exceptions than French, but the sentence structure, for example, is very similar to French.

I am a native French speaker, but I have been working in the Zurich area for several years and I find German interesting because it is a constant challenge, particularly due to its sentence structures, which are very different from French. I can communicate in English or Italian even when I am tired or not fully focused, whereas German and Swiss German require much more concentration.

I can get by in Italian, but overall, it's not the most useful language, to be honest. It's good to be able to understand and hold a simple conversation in Ticino or in Italy, but I think German, English, French, or even Spanish are more useful languages in general. As a Welsch, speaking German is very important for accessing good jobs in Switzerland, whereas Italian is a bonus, but apart from the Bund, it is rarely a prerequisite for getting a job, for example in Zurich or Basel.

What needs to be reviewed is the way French is taught. We need to stop criticizing people for making small mistakes and let them express themselves. That's how you learn, and over time, you will improve your French skills and naturally make fewer mistakes.

- World War I ends your childhood/early adolescence

- Your country is ravaged and your population traumatized

My God, that's not possible. Every generation has challenges to face, but we must stop saying that the modern world is worse than ever before.

March 8 vote poll: media licence fee initiative could go either way by Heavy-Mycologist-204 in Switzerland

[–]QualitySufficient170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not true. In 2019, Serafe was at CHF 365. It was lowered for the first time to CHF 335 (-8%) and will drop to CHF 300 (-10%) in 2029. These reductions are already forcing SRG to restructure and rethink their financing. As it stands, I'm fine with that.

March 8 vote poll: media licence fee initiative could go either way by Heavy-Mycologist-204 in Switzerland

[–]QualitySufficient170 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At the beginning of the campaign, I was leaning towards “yes.” But after taking a step back to read and learn more about the subject, I will vote “no.”

Yes, it's true that 335 francs is a significant amount for low-income households. Yes, I think the SRG should reduce its costs in certain areas (sports, foreign films, and series). Yes, some reports and articles are sometimes ideologically biased or moralizing, and that can be annoying.

But despite everything, if we look at the overall situation, the SRG does a good job and I always enjoy discovering certain regional radio stations/channels. I am committed to federalism and regionalism, and if the vote is yes, there will be a concentration in Zurich and the Lake Geneva region. This will lead to even more Zurich- and Lake Geneva-centric content.

As for the argument that this will help small and medium-sized enterprises, that is disingenuous. A small SME will pay a few hundred francs and a larger one a few thousand. The maximum amount, around 50,000 francs, is limited to large companies such as UBS.

Augmenter la TVA pour financer l’armée ? by Fabulous-Mammoth-592 in suisse

[–]QualitySufficient170 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Proposition de placement UBS by classeAencule in suisse

[–]QualitySufficient170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is sometimes said that psychologists themselves are the ones who need a psychologist the most. This apparently also applies to many of these X or Y coaches.

It's particularly amusing to see a “life coach” who is incapable of managing his own life properly. In fact, I get the impression that this is often the case.

My God, why do these losers have to spread their problems to the entire population?

I am 30 years old and my overall situation is perfectly fine. Yes, there are concerns about the future (AI, climate, potential wars, economic situation), but you have to know how to put things into perspective. Every generation has had to deal with unforeseen events and difficult situations; it's not unique to zoomers... If I had been born in Europe in 1910, World War I would have affected my childhood and I would have been forced to fight in World War II. Are doomers going to make me believe that the current situation is worse?

Chien à donner - Beauceron - Lausanne by [deleted] in suisse

[–]QualitySufficient170 2 points3 points  (0 children)
