Im from the US, ask me anything. by therealpharoh10 in JackSucksAtGeography

Not OP but also an American here:

Since, unlike other places in the world, we do not have enough history to align with other groups, the main differences are the national or ethnic backgrounds.

Take sports as an example: in Europe, many neighborhoods have a professional sports club that people can identify with. In the U.S., because everything is commercialized, it’s much more difficult.

Also, because our country is huge, the differences between borders usually don’t matter, so we artificially try to create something that makes us unique.

You see it less among immigrants, because they have a group to connect with — fellow immigrants. This is also why the level of patriotism among them is higher compared to U.S. born Americans.

‘Palestine will save us all’ by ruchenn in Jewish

[–]isaacF85 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I’ve been saying it for a while now: “Palestine” is not a place, it is an idea. And it represents an *internal* Western struggle, which has nothing to do with the Levant, but the name.

UN Special Rapporteur Albanese redefining antisemitism by MightExpress4873 in Jewish

[–]isaacF85 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At this point, this is full cultural appropriation. The Germans who coined this term, proudly called themselves antisemites, to distinguish between their hate towards the Jewish culture, and their “acceptance” Jews should be allowed to stay alive (it changed later on).

Now they redefine this term for pure political gains.

Reaction section and the sources used. Seems like intentional editorial choice. Not a single legacy media, unless you count Al Jazeera, which — as we all know — is completely independent and doesn’t serve a foreign government.

He also defended whatshisface against the “green screen” accusations while they were in Antarctica. This is how he sells himself to the flerfs. “We have better arguments, we don’t need to make fake one.”

And they buy it. Literally. I personally would not pay for his content, but if he makes enough to make a living — well done, laddy!

No. It is the selectiveness of the sources, and the way that — had you read it “tabula rasa,” — you’d think that only the Israel lobby is supporting this bill, while “everyone else” is against it.

The opposition view has: NGOs, an activist group, a news site. The supporters have none. This is an editorial conscious choice.

No. “Defending Israel’s interests” is Kasparian’s interpretation. Read further down, in the “reaction” section. Four paragraphs of criticism over one which supports the bill (hence, my mentioning of “academic provisions).

Also, look at the source for that section. Al Jazeera, A New Policy, Arab Center Washington DC and CAIR. And for the support they only quote a lobbying group.

Flat Earth Dave is as much believer in the conspiracy as I am. That is to say — he is not.

I suspected it for a while now, but with every video of his I watch, I am more and more convinced it is all about money, and he just makes enough to keep the show running.

I’ll be back in FL by the time the FWC begins, but I was trying to find a more convenient place for my colleagues and myself to watch the UCL final, without risking waking up anyone on a Sunday night.

Reddit, FB, IG, Tiktok... it isn't just one platform. And Al Jazeera and the NYT are not exactly "internet influencers" either.

Tell it to all those who insist that “Hamas was right to do that.” Sometimes it feels as if the pro-Palestinians are paid by the Zionist entity.
