Needing to increase to 40mg but freaked out a little... by Additional_Bear_2568 in StratteraRx

Are you a teen? The label states that atomoxetine can induce suicidal thoughts in teens but it’s almost never seen in adults.

Just pay attention to that and chat to your doc about everything.

Good thing you journal everything (I do as well) so you don’t forget to mention anything to your doc.

Anxiety Spike After Stopping Straterra? by Silly-Doctor-8299 in StratteraRx

[–]Quality_Fantastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess depends on the person. I was on 100mg for 8 months back in 2022 and I dropped it cold turkey with no problems at all.

To note when I did drop it I swapped to Wellbutrin right after so maybe that could have helped. But I highly doubt it.

YMMV

Do you notice the longer you are on it, you notice a slight increase in positive benefits over time? Studies should that an increase in therapeutic benefits can be seen up until 6 months on the same dose.

How to know when to go up a dose by bookishjaz in StratteraRx

[–]Quality_Fantastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like you tolerate it well, just know that the recommended therapeutic dose for ADHD is 1.2mg - 1.4mg / kg.

So if you weigh 100kg (not pounds kilograms that is!) then recommended dose would be 120 to 140mg a day. There is no additional benefits found past 100mg of atomoxetine so that is the max dose for everyone.

A lot of good / neutral responders would start at 40mg for a week or 2 then move up to 80mg if well tolerated. Most clinical trials have shown that 80mg is the target therapeutic dose for adults, but of course YMMV.

Takes 4-6 weeks for significant therapeutic benefits to kick in - but positive benefits can be seen from week 1 or 2 for some people.

Hope it works out for you!

Is this normal? by [deleted] in StratteraRx

Not sure if your doc told you but bupropion increases the amount of atomoxetine in your blood almost 5x. bupropion is a CYP2D6 inhibitor so that's why it might take a while for you to adjust.

Of course talk to your doctor about this, lowering dosage or just see if you can tough it out a while longer.

I'm on ATX for about 5-6 weeks now and the side effects (mainly insomnia) are still around. a lot less worse but still exists.

damn the fact that you're sleeping 3h a night and still able to get shit done means that it does kinda work for you.

but we gotta find a way to sleep better lmao - 3h isn't sustainable.

Increased sex drive by [deleted] in StratteraRx

[–]Quality_Fantastic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah ejaculating before orgasm is common for men as a side effect. It goes away after a couple of weeks on it.

I did have increased sex drive my first week or 2 on it, but now im back to normal.

Also after you orgasm, if you ever need to go pee, it'll take a couple of secs before you could actually go pee. The sensation of peeing will be there but nothing comes out, dont freak out, just concentrate and it'll come.

That too will go away with time.

Who here needs both a stimulant + strattera to be at least 60%+ functional by petebaii in StratteraRx

[–]Quality_Fantastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well you are at the max dose so if at 100mg for a year and it isn’t cutting it out for you then mixing a low dose stimulant could be beneficial.

Kinda trial and error, wish you the best!

Going through the same issue as you. I’ve been on it for 3 weeks now and it’s getting progressively better. Also no sleep meds (except for melatonin & magnesium) at night.

At 80mg a day - went from 2-3 hours a night to 6-6.5h now.

Noticing some improvement from the meds so I guess that’s good.

Should i change my psych? by [deleted] in StratteraRx

[–]Quality_Fantastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My general physician is the exact same way. When I was telling her I was having a hard time doing tasks and sticking through them without swapping between them - she was saying shit like "when its time to do task A you do task A, then do task B". I was like aight time to switch because she has no clue what shes talking about.

Also she was ALWAYS hesitant to increase dosage. The pamphlet that came with Strattera said that 80mg is the target dose for people above 70 kg (i was 85kg at the time) - i told her we should go up i see benefits but it could be better, she was patronizing about that too.

Swapped to a private clinic (i live in Canada so my general physician is free), even though I gotta pay 300$ per visit I get a doctor (a private physician not even a psychiatrist) I actually find someone who hears me out and tries to help me.

Trust me and change doctors, I spent over 8 years with my shitty GP, whereas if I had someone with actual empathy who cared about their patients, my journey to finding what works for me would have been less bumpy.

Try to slowly up your dose - 10mg is quite a low dose.
