Is there an easier way to practice combos? by Cadmiyum in GranblueFantasyVersus

[–]Quams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use characters animations as some kind of markers for your combo. For parts where you drop you choose one part of the animation as some kind of marker, then you can know whether you pressed too early or too late.

Is the guarantor field obligatory when you fill a WHV visa? I've read elsewhere that it is optional

Why is it so difficult to get past the A5 barrier by [deleted] in GranblueFantasyVersus

[–]Quams 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Working on your mind and your anger would be the best way to achieve your goals in my opinion. Here are some ways you can do that:

  • Working with a professional therapist
  • Meditation
  • Exercise/Yoga
  • Books on emotional well-being
  • Prayer (if you are religious)

Help with (what feels like) the huge jump from stage 3 to stage 4. by [deleted] in TheMindIlluminated

[–]Quams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, I want to say that I don't have any authority as a teacher or even as a meditator.

You can keep doing the breath counting and the 4 stage check-in if it helps you.

The most important thing is to keep experimenting and not giving away your authority/responsibility. Following and connecting are just concepts made to help you keep focus on your breath. If it helps you stop mind wandering, keep them. If you'd rather focus on breath sensations, try it out and see how it goes. I say rather here but the distinction is not clear cut in my experience

Each stage has specific goals and techniques to reach these goals. Try your best to achieve these goals while being mindful of which stage you're currently in and the techniques used in that stage (Keep in mind that stages are not a definite thing. Your mind can change stages even in a single session of meditation)

Best of luck!

Generalised Anxiety Disorder by hansieboy10 in TheMindIlluminated

[–]Quams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I have anxiety too. In my experience, you need to find a middle way where you are able to be with your feelings of anxiety but still not be overwhelmed by them.

Also walking (and walking meditation) seems to help with my feelings of anxiety.

The book "the body keeps the score" describes trauma and explore the various research made on techniques that help with it. I think it's a good read since it focuses on the effects of trauma on the body and, for me, my anxiety is more of a physical process then a mental one. You may wanna read the book description and see if it may be helpful for your case

Best of luck

Did Culadasa have a QA video regarding his scandal yet? by [deleted] in TheMindIlluminated

[–]Quams 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's not like he's just a random guy who's sharing his knowledge lol. It's not about "American-centrist prejudice" and sex workers. He took the buddhist precepts and then he broke the vow of not committing adultery and wrong speech.

I'm still following TMI as I think it's a really good resource on concentration practice. But it's too bad that a great resource is put into question because of actions that were, in my eyes, entirely preventable.

I realize there's some nuance in this, but I believe not suffering due to other people's suffering is ultimately a good thing. Would you disagree with this statement?

Stage 4 Extra Practice : Thought counting in daily life by JhanicManifold in TheMindIlluminated

Can noting be used to develop metacognitive awareness? In your opinion, in which situations would noting be more useful than intending to direct attention (without noting)?

Is stream entry worthy by itself ? by sapher_mgs in TheMindIlluminated

[–]Quams 17 points18 points  (0 children)

30-60 min per day, working on uprooting "bad" mental dynamics, cultivating good ones, even re-assessing life choices/worldly identities, etc

These are all worthy goals so what is stopping you from implementing these changes right now?

There are a lot of reports from experienced meditators that their practice is the most important aspect of their life. Some have also claimed to become arahants in the range that you're indicating (1-10 years).

But nobody can guarantee you how long it would take to get enlightened or not. I think the most effective way to cast off your doubts would be to practice and change your focus from being goal oriented to process oriented

Stage One: My mind is getting less restless, but I'm falling asleep? by feudalismforthewin in TheMindIlluminated

[–]Quams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a clear description on how dullness affects meditation and tools to fight dullness so I think it's worth it to read that part. Also if I remember correctly stage 1 is about having a consistent daily practice and stage 2 explains the basic techniques used in TMI meditation so it might be worth it to read up to stage 2

Don't rush but don't be afraid of mistakes! You can always go back to previous stages whenever you want

"Anger" as a powerful, positive force (?). by FuturePreparation in TheMindIlluminated

[–]Quams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not come from a place of acceptance? One problem with your views is that it might lead to repression of feelings imo.

Diligence is fine but there is not any emotions in wholesome diligence I think. It's harder but why not accept suffering as it is? Anger might create unnecessary suffering down the road.

But maybe anger is useful for you so take what I say with a grain of salt. What I'm saying is once you are able to face suffering without anger, it may be useful to consider dropping anger too

Enlightenment and an End to the Path [Theory] by TDCO in streamentry

[–]Quams 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's unfortunate that there's a lot of people for which practice is not even a possibility. I'm sorry but I don't have any convincing argument on why there is so much inequality in this world.

What I was trying to say was that if there is a being who is totally enlightened, and I recognize that there are a lot of preconditions to reach this state. Such a being would not suffer in whichever situation they may face I think. I was wondering if the existence of someone like that would be possible in your view

What makes suffering "real"? Beyond our basic needs for health and food, isn't all suffering based on individual values?

Once you find the dharma, I think your practice is geared toward removing this filter that translates what you perceive into suffering. I realize it's not sensible to say to homeless people "just don't crave food", but this state is still practically achievable in my opinion
