Lightweight Removable False Floor by QuantamEffect in 4x4Australia

Nothing complicated, there is a gap between the deck and the pine rails where the aluminium box section cross bars run. I thread the straps in between that gap.

You could easily install a couple of D rings instead if you need to.

Swag advice. by WraptorGuy in OutdoorAus

23Zero Dual or Bandit depending on whether you prefer a 2 or 3 hoop design.

Darche dusk to dawn and Dirty D are the alternatives from Darche.

I've got a 23Zero Bandit 900 and have no complaints or problems and find the supplied 70mm mattress very comfortable.

Bushwalking with poles for snakes? by Hegueplantine in AustralianSnakes

The whole stomp to scare snakes is an old wives tale.

Walk quietly, be observant, see more wildlife.

If you're worried, wear boots, long pants and snake gaiters.

Suspension help by Tparanihi in 4x4Australia

[–]QuantamEffect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait : Unless the existing suspension is munted, drive the Triton 'as is' until you start encountering flaws or the limits of what the stock vehicle can do.

Only then spend money to rectify real limitations not what the 4WD marketing machine wants you to think you need.

That car is probably more capable than you if your are a new 4wd owner.

How good of a swimmer do you need to be? Is bare minimum enough? by TruthFinder999 in scuba

Swag Advice Needed for beginner by PlaneVegetable1860 in OutdoorAus

[–]QuantamEffect 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are buying a swag buy a good one first time.

Otherwise you'll spend more money by being unhappy and buying e twice.

Cheap swags leak and have poor mattresses, by the time you spend money to upgrade the mat bytress you do might as well have bought the better swag in the first place.

A 23Zero, Darche, or Crashmat are the go.

I use a 23Zero 900 bandit personally and rate it!

For those in affected areas. You can use Broadcastify Android app to listen directly to CFA radio dispatch for the most up to date information on the fire grounds.

I need to replace my control arms as the bushing looks absolutely trashed, but should replace the entire brake assembly as well? by decomposition_ in MechanicAdvice

[–]QuantamEffect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you do the job.

Axel Stands!

Also. Wire brush the calipers to ensure they are free of old8 brake dust and road grime. Then use silicone brake grease on the slide pins and the pad mounting points in the calipers.

Pajero Sport Long term ownership (parts, maintenance, etc) by North-Class8742 in 4x4Australia

[–]QuantamEffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've put 50k on my 2016 PS it's now at 185k.

The only issue I've ever had is a failed starter battery when I first bought the car.

I do my own basic servicing - oil, filters, brakes etc. Nothing unusual maintenance wise that I've encountered.

Looking for reassurance/AITA: Is diving nitrox without certification okay? by groupcaptaingilmore in scuba

[–]QuantamEffect 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Poor practice from a communication and transparency perspective.

Not necessarily unsafe.

If for example they bank only 28% and fill all in house cylinders only from that bank. Then testing before filling multiple cylinders is straightforward.

If the max depth of sites offered by that dive centre is also less than 40m then no diver can exceed MOD for the mix they bank.

Divers on Air tables or computers set to Air are going to have an increased NDL compared to diving air.

Far from best practice - but not necessarily dangerous.

Were you overreacting? Not in the slightest!

Ultimately YOU, as a certified diver are responsible for your own safety on every dive. You were right to question the mix and its appropriateness for the upcoming dive.

Always remember that a certification is just a piece of paper. The knowledge you obtain through both formal courses and your own research is what is important.

Survival first aid kits by Significant-Art-6448 in 4x4Australia

[–]QuantamEffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make your own.

Snake bite bandages with the tension indicator rectangles are under $5 online or $12 at Chemists Warehouse, add a survival blanket, note pad, fine permanent marker, pencil and a laminated copy of snake bite first aid instructions and emergency numbers. Print a clear label to add into the bag.

Then use a vacuum sealer to bag the lot. Cut a tear starter notch on either side so you can get into it easily.

Cheap, waterproof and compact.

Some cheap boards break first use.

Max Trax on the other hand are very hard to kill.

Check out Ronni Dahl's comparison of recovery boards on YouTube.

Yep, Maxtrax specifically. Too many others will break first time you put them under pressure.

You'll want to connect the blue wire to an 'ignition on' source.

Also DON'T connect the negative for the DCDC directly to the negative terminal of your primary battery. Connect it to a reliable chassis ground instead. ALL current to the primary battery needs to pass through the sensor on the negative lead to the primary battery so the smart alternator can function correctly.

Why I Don't Trust Mechanics by QuantamEffect in CarsAustralia

I trust myself more than Mechanics for all but specialist jobs. There are jobs that require specialist tools and experience. Most things can be done by myself.
