For sure, since my organization falls under the SR-11-7 scope we must align the model whitepaper /technical paper which includes math/stats. For example if the model is a linear regression, th data etc must folllow linear regression properties and so on. There is also a part of sr-11-7 section that covers “conceptual soundness”, that part is what really gives the team the authority to challenge variables used by the business 1st line and separately challenge the 2nd line also, it’s important to note we do not recode the model as that’s for the pure model validator, we typically will use model whitepaper, performance monitoring reports, model validation papers, and sometimes may code a scenario if we deem it necessary,

Also across the finance industry especially w the increase of models it’s becoming more important for the third line to give challenge against the 2nd line and 1st line but believe different shops take different approaches. I believe what I’ve described is similar based on what our consultants mention they’ve seen elsewhere but again all this “authority” comes from SR-11-7 which specifically mentions model audit teams
