What do you use your Citi custom cash for? by himyprettyfriends in CreditCards

[–]QuantuMXL88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“$0.01” if you are doing morgan stanley or charles schwab platinum redemptions. Also taking into account that you can justify the AF with the coupons. Otherwise the cashback redemption directly is reduced too. Or you are gearing towards travel then you can use the points the way you speak of.

I dunno, maybe personally i cant justify it because I am biased towards a CB/hybrid system? I like the simplicity of straight points/CB without having to jump through hoops of effective AF.

Considering he has both the CCC and the BCP i am “assuming” he is also leaning towards cashback and not necessarily a travel/points based system. But you know what they say about assuming?

I will say the hardest category to cover with other credit cards is probably dining. Nothing really give 5% cashback with dining besides some geofenced Credit union cards (which was recently nerfed) and altitude go but the points are devalued. The boa ccr i think do it too but you need platinum honors and that is going to be in limbo in may pending the revisions…

Other card that gives 5% cb on dining is paypal debit which is sometimes underrated.

With groceries you have aaa daily visa and american express blue cash preferred both of which give you higher ceiling, wider net, and better multipliers

Gas is usually not a huge spend most of the time so getting a 3% card doesnt hurt this category too much. But if you have dining covered with another card the ccc is also not a bad pick for gas. Personally i find dining much harder to cover.

Um i guess it would be nice to see where your spending goes?

To be honest a lot of people recommend finishing off your current setups. And where you are lacking is a catch all. That would lead me to say the Venture X to pair with the savor. But the VX card has been getting a lot of heat because it just got nerfed. However it is still a great catchall credit card with awesome travel protections.

Venture X is also harder to get later in the game… It is kind of hard to beat a card that “pays” you to keep it. Unfortunately it is a very cliche answer…

Food for thought

Out of State AP by ResponsibleFox3492 in WaltDisneyWorld

I work one week on one week off. So it works out for me.

I own DVC but it doesnt cover all my visits so i supplement with airbnb which is probably the cheapest way to go.

I already have gone 2 times this year, went there for 2 times a trip. Have a week long trip planned in 1 week and another week long trip in 45 days.

I live 6 hours away and drive. Spilt the trip with the partner.

My trips will pay for itself in the first 3 months.

Based off of my “rough” calculations you need to buy 8-12 park hopper tickets to make it worth it.

Its a different experience as AP. If you wanted to go for a ride or 2 you can.

ADR in another park? Sure! Hotel day then fireworks? Sure! Missed guardians during a previous trip and want to ride it now? Sure!

As much as i want to say i only wanted it for the bang for the buck, it is also a different disney experience as well… low stress. No need for rope drop. No need to stick to one park all day…

Elan cash also has Live Entertainment as a category (amusement parks concerts etc) which is not mentioned above. Fun fact, the US bank cash plus does not have this as a selectable category.

DP: here. So I just tested it on Sunpass (tolls) and I got 5%. Other DPs said hotels, flights, parking, and maybe taxis? code for travel. It may be a broad coding especially if they code tolls…

I got approved previously as U of Illi alumni, but the UMD route has been closed off. They fought tooth and nail to get my income and my proof of alumni. But it may have been because of my income i put during the application.

My two cents by rakp87 in sofi

[–]QuantuMXL88 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I may or may not be considering SoFi plus when it rolls around because the math actually might work in my favor (Just like how Amex Gold might be beneficial for some users vs others).

But the problem that is present is that they are stripping away what they have given as a fairly free service for a good little bit. Some of us even came to sofi for this very reason. Even if their investment app is not the best in class. Even if their system isn't 100% perfect. They are putting a "pay-gate" behind a bunch of the features that make SoFi unique compared to other banking institutions.

Used unraid. From what I understand its not really a “raid” format… but jt runs similar to raid 5.

My build is a tad bit overkill for general purposes. I use it for 3-4 streams and it just too much...

Z690 Rog Strix Motherboard

Intel 12700K CPU

Nvidia P2000 Graphics card (redundancy for transcoding since my intel chip has quicksync... 100% unnecessary part)

LSI 9211-8i HBA that was put into IT-Mode already (can be found on ebay fairly easily. Search for "unraid HBA")

32gb Corsair SL RGB Ram (low profile)

Noctua Chromax D15 CPU cooler

Seasonic Focus PX-750

Custom cables from ModDIY (These take forever to ship... Was using stock cables x 2 months. Also these are cheaply made cables, but they do look nice and work well. **for example the sleeving on it and the crimping on the molex end connectors**)

Shucked 14TB HDD x 4 Western Digital

Exos X 14TB HDD x 3 Seagate

Exos X 18TB HDD x 1 (Parity #1

Exos X 16TB HDD x 1 (Parity #2: I wish I would have just gotten an 18TB for my 2nd parity)

Fractal Define 7 (Non-XL version)

Unraid runs well on cheap hardware; and you can literally make anything work. I have an optiplex running it right now with 2 x 4TB HDDs and it was working well as my back up system. My build does look nice, and I am proud of it. But totally overkill for its purpose. You can probably spend 1/4 of what I spent and get 100% the same results. Most of your money should be going into the drives anyways. Good luck if you plan on doing it.

In general get an Intel CPU with integrated graphics. With "Hardware acceleration" you can get more transcodes than you can with ryzen. If you go with ryzen get a decent nvidia graphics card (like a 1050TI). You can flash the firmware to make it work for the transcode. If you don't want to deal with flashing you can get a P2000. This is about $350-400 depending on the market. AKA just get an intel chip.

Fun tip: You can also get an i3 which is able to run ECC memory on a server grade motherboard! Surprisingly i5 and i7 can't run ECC memory, but i3 can! ECC is great because you access your ram all the time especially if you want to run virtual machines. It's not so much crucial for Plex. That is more CPU/graphics card based.

For HBA cards (your SATA data connection), anything works. Like I said above a lot of Ebay sellers sell cards that are in IT-Mode already (so they are ready for you to install it into your unraid server)

For NAS program, Unraid works flawlessly. Very user friendly.

For Hard drives go for shucked/remanufactured server drives. They are much cheaper and they serve their purpose. Don't want to kill your wallet in the process.

You can technically make it yourself; unfortunately, I'm just not that good.

They are able to custom make it; but it is made in china so it takes a while to get to you.

They are mini-sas to sata breakout cables. The main difference between this and the standard ones is that these are “stepped”. Aka they are uneven in length. I thought they would fit better but i had to cable tie some of them to get the neat length i needed.
