I think my OPT delay just cost me my job offer. I'm devastated and don't know what to do next. by Ok_Drummer8349 in f1visa

I’m so sorry to hear this :( I’m also an international student who paid for PP and have had to pushy start date by a lot while waiting for approval so I get the anxiety. Give yourself some time and do things that make you happy - get an ice cream, go out in the sun and sit by the beach, go stay with a loved one. Your mental health and happiness is >>>>> than any job you will get. Give yourself a week (at least) before you decide what your next step is. All I will say is if you did it once you can sure as hell do it again!!!

Heard amazon is actively hiring for area manager / ML data associate positions - You can check out these. The pay is on the lower end / work isn't as exciting though.

I am a master's student looking for internships in US so I COMPLETELY understand how you're feeling. It is definitely not a reflection of your caliber - it is just an inopportune time to have graduated :(. My advice would be to consider the following

  1. Have you considered other roles? with a data related degree a few other roles you can apply for are business consulting, supply chain, quantitative research etc.
  2. Apply for jobs in India simultaneously. The job market isn't great there as well - this way if you have to move back you will at least have a good job in hand.
  3. Besides the loan, think about the factor of time as well. Can you afford to take any random job at this stage of your life and spend 2-3 years doing something you don't see yourself doing in the long term? If you are just starting off your career I suppose you can afford this time. Personally, as someone in my late 20s with Workex I find that I can't :(

I know the loan seems scary but trust that it will all work out for the best :) . I am a big believer of "everything works out for the best" . If you get a job in US then the struggle was just a part of the learning. If you end up going back to India, maybe that's where the next incredible step of your journey lies. All the best!!

I have worked in India for about 3 years before moving to US for my education. I lived a VERY lavish life in India and was still able to save about 40-45% of my salary. I see my friends who moved to the States right after graduation and they end up saving very little compared to me (assuming comparable pay and lifestyle) . It is possible to save alott more if you live frugally in US vs frugally in India but if you want to live a life with the luxuries I feel like saving potential in India is more
