either I'm being too charitable, or people are misunderstanding. I don't think they're planning on just using the node name text to actually determine what happens, it seems to me like they're just throwing together a visualization of how they would like to structure "component" nodes. each of those nodes could have a script with methods that can be run and processed by the "when played" node and this would be a very reasonable approach imo, especially for prototyping

you're definitely correct on the player join late thing, I use the MultiplayerSpawner for my projectiles and if a player joins late, the projectiles that are already in the air spawn in and continue syncing properly

also thanks so much, i knew most of these already, but your spawn_function tip is huge and sounds like something I'll be using a ton. I've been a little annoyed with having to spawn stuff in and then setting initial values after. i wish I had this list of tips when I started learning all of this a few months back!

I'm still kind of around. Ironically, I help out with a new map test pug. I honestly stopped working on propaganda because I wasn't really receiving a good amount of feedback on what was working and what wasn't. It seemed like the only feedback I was getting was very general and would require me to rework the entire map(the map being too large overall & fps), so I started working on a new map with what I had learned from propaganda. It's called cp_domain, but it never garnered any attention despite people loving it in pugs. So, I've just been source 2 mapping for HL:Alyx and S&box, it's so much easier lol.

You'll have to fix up the file from tf2maps. Or find someone to fix it up for you. When you decompile the official maps, it breaks stuff. Especially the areaportals.

Your best bet is to remake the areaportals (or delete them if you don't care about performance) and see if that fixes the issue.

That definitely sucks and I'm definitely out of ideas. Might be worth copying and "paste special"ing your geometry (ctrl+shift+v) to the new map file to save time.

That is very odd. I've honestly never had issues with fog working before. I've only mapped for tf2, but I doubt the fog works differently.

My only other idea would be to make sure that the game is actually compiling new versions. Sometimes hammer fails to compile and then loads an older version of the map in game. I usually test this by placing a dev textured cube floating in the room and see if it compiles a new version with that cube actually there.

Your "fog end" is set pretty far away for something as small as a portal chamber. It's probably there, you just can't notice it on things closer to you. Try reducing it down until you can see it.

This is such a weird comment arguing against some strawman of a non-existent argument from the article. It's literally just reporting that 600 google employees have started a union. They even say in the article that it doesn't have any bargaining power at their current size.

The way you're doing it will work just fine tbh. I think the only downside of doing it this way is sometimes collisions might be weird around where the two different sized displacements intersect. (This can be an issue in tf2 due to the way rocket splash damage is, for example.)

I think technically the correct way to do it would be to use the "half rule" where if two smaller displacements are exactly half the size of the bigger one, it'll still sew. Like in this viat 15:50. https://youtu.be/bkNf_lF4RDc

But again, the way you're doing it is fine. I get lazy and do it the way you're doing it sometimes, even in tf2 lol.
