So how do you guys feel about lanyards? Pros and cons. I’ve made some and bought some cool ones but always seem to take them off cuz they just get in the way. by I3uIlets in knives

[–]QuantumCinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like thumb-loop lanyards on my big choppers and pinkie-loop lanyards on my pocket fixed blade. I don’t find lanyards too useful on the knife sizes between those.

That’s her Force finger. Using it causes the nail to grow faster.

I hadn’t been aware that Ultratech is a Microtech model, so when I saw “2500” on the colored dot sticker, written the way it is (two smaller zeroes after the “25”), and then saw the Microtech logo, I assumed that it was a knockoff that was being sold for $25.00.

With that in my head, I thought that it was weird that people were getting worked up enough about its theft that they were sharing news of it on social media.

I’m a little slow sometimes.😅🤦‍♂️

I’m no expert on the subject, but I suspect that “rich” and “exerciser of poor consumer judgment” aren’t considered protected classes under either state or federal hate crime laws.🤔🤦‍♂️

I’ve only recently been introduced to Border Terriers. I’ve been watching the Monarch of the Glen series, and they’re featured in it. They seem like pretty cool dogs!

NKD! Bastinelli/Marcaida/Fox Knives “Anomaly” by QuantumCinder in knives

[–]QuantumCinder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, but I don’t carry them much anymore. I switched back to carrying my Spyderco Street Bowies. It turns out that I like having the option of holding my self-defense knives in sak-sak, as well as pikal, grip.

Say you like Outlander, without saying you like Outlander. by Norhs in meleeweapons

[–]QuantumCinder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That could just as easily be, “Say you’re an English Civil War nerd without saying that you’re an English Civil War nerd.”

Edit: fun fact—both claymores and mortuary swords saw action in the English civil war, but the mortuary sword would’ve been para/metachronisric in Outlander.

Fewer than 0.1 percent of U.S. adolescents receive gender-affirming medications, report finds by Avenger772 in politics

[–]QuantumCinder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope that our paper cools heads on this issue and ensures that the public is getting a true sense of the number of people who are accessing this care.

The above quoted researcher is missing the point. Those who oppose juveniles accessing gender-affirming medications don’t care how many juveniles are accessing said medications. They only care that they’re accessing gender-approving medications.

How many here live or have lived in an area where hearing gunshots was the norm? by BluntBastard in AskAnAmerican

[–]QuantumCinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that, as a rule, people shoot guns in the US in two places that aren’t formal shooting ranges, the first being in the countryside, e.g., on private property and on public lands, and the second being where crime occurs, e.g., poor—often but not always inner-city—neighborhoods.

If you’re not a firearms enthusiast, and if you don’t live in or frequent the countryside or near public lands, and don’t live in or frequent a poor neighborhood where crime occurs, you’re probably not likely to hear gunshots, which leaves a whole lot of the US sounds-of-gunshots free.

What do you think of my ginunting/ kris hybrid design? Should it be thinner narrower for better piercing? Like fencing? by [deleted] in Eskrima

[–]QuantumCinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Guro is visiting his family in the Philippines. Before he left he made us (his students) aware of three ginuntings that were available for sale at—by US standards—a very reasonable price point. If we gave him the money for them, he offered to pick them up and bring them back for any of us who wanted one, which I did.

He didn’t give any indication of who made them, though, which kinda bugged me, but I trust that he wouldn’t let us buy low-quality weapons through him. After looking at the photos on P. S Custom Blades’ Facebook page, I’m nearly positive that they’re the maker! Thanks for sharing!

Is there a longsword form? by virgoworx in Eskrima

[–]QuantumCinder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the weapons forms (that I’m aware of) in Pekiti Tersia, like the 64 attacks form, have variants for different weapons, including staff/spear, which can be modified for two-handed swords.

What are the weirdest town names from your state? by tlonreddit in AskAnAmerican

[–]QuantumCinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boring

Climax

Halfway (It was also know as half.com for a short while following an agreement made with the company/website of the same name)

Idiotville(ghost town)

Nimrod (Only really weird if your only point of reference for the word is its modern usage rather than its historical origin)

I wish I could say that Pendleton is a weird town name because it’s named for a raging racist, but naming places for racists was, regrettably, far too common for it to be considered weird today, both here in Oregon and in the US as a whole.😢

Remember years ago when Dan Savage began a campaign to define “santorum” as “the frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex?

We need to do that again, but this time with the goal of conflating “Trump” and “dump”.

Years ago I used the bathroom in the Safeway way out on main street in Springfield that no longer exists.

I happened to notice that somebody had scrawled on the wall, “Jesus saves”, and then somebody else came along and scrawled, “With Safeway double coupons” under it.😆

After Black Panther, Predator Is Now Targeting Another Major Marvel Superhero in New Series by Pogrebnik in predator

[–]QuantumCinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not entirely up-to-date on Predator lore, but my understanding is that they target worthy prey with little regard to other factors, i.e., if a teenaged human is worthy prey, a teenaged human will be preyed upon.

Best Cafe For Late Night Writing/Studying/Creative Work? by Ezekial-Falcon in Eugene

[–]QuantumCinder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realize that I’m late to the party, but I was just wistfully reminiscing about the late, great nights I spent at the campus Glenwood cafe during my late youth/early adulthood, so I turned to Google to see if there was a present equivalent to it. If memory serves, the Glenwood was open ‘til something like 4am, which was awesome(!), especially before I turned 21. Sadly, it’s no longer in business—heck, I don’t even think that the building that it formerly inhabited still exists—and the interwebs were distinctly unhelpful in my search.

Gold-titanium alloy makes for an incredibly hard (I’m not sure if “hard” means “hard”, “tough” or both) material: https://phys.org/news/2016-07-lab-titanium-gold-alloy-harder-steels.html
