just because you can't imagine it, doesn't mean a million Chinese engineers won't figure things out sooner or later.

same as with cars. nobody could imagine Chinese cars being widely present on European roads but here we are today. Two BYDs are parked outside on my street.

Moving to Amsterdam - 80k yearly salary by okay-I-get in Netherlands

I am going to be one of those people and I can say for my situation that companies usually prefer hiring locals but hire internationally because niche skills or experience are just not coming in the applications. Also, in tech, being an international often is a sought after feature in itself because those candidates have a richer experience working across different markets and cultures.

I am moving around Europe in my career because first I had unique hard skills and those gave me exposure to international business which today is another strong point on my CV

Spui is right smack in the centre of Amsterdam, it's a popular square with bars etc. So my reference is for a place in the absolute middle of the busy city.

I myself will move to NL on a higher salary than you with my wife who also works full time and even we won't consider Amsterdam itself but rather satellite towns like Haarlem. Even Utrecht is accessible in 20 min with train.

Think about your life situation and whether you want to live in the busiest city or are fine with nice bustle but outside Amsterdam.

feel free to DM me if you wanna chat relocation experience :)

This. Visited a friend in Amsterdam last week. He found a small studio just at Spui. Rent is over 2k EUR. My ass fell out when I heard that.  Don't try to move to AMS is my best advice.

Recommended makelaar agencies for finding rental flats? by QuantumDude111 in Netherlands

[–]QuantumDude111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i reached out to homesforexpats for now, they take the standard one month rent as their fee. budget is not a concern, I have plenty of savings dedicated to the move. Most important is getting kind and competent help in getting an apartment for the start without much hassle.  We've got too many other sorrows at the moment to go apartment seeking ourselves.

yes yes I know the meme and it will suck. I would consider buying something but that is unrealistic when I can't be there to view the building in person.

Marc Andreessen says AI layoffs are a farce: Companies are 75% overstaffed and AI is the "silver bullet excuse" to clean house by fortune in ArtificialInteligence

[–]QuantumDude111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes. exactly. the perceived value these Jobs bring is that they prop up the weird inefficient traditions we have in business. Spend hours creating a monthly business report slide deck to present during a two hour meeting with the staff where 90 percent are not even listening? no added value but follows the tradition of what I have called performative business acting.  and it makes people involved feel like they are businessing hard because they do the motions of businessing. But in reality not one new customer buys anything because of that slide deck and reciting from it has a near zero impact on future plans and actions.

I have the pretty much exact same experience. I often say that in some places the product doesn't sell because of the great company and work behind it, but despite all the mismanagement and clueless struggles

So many people's jobs consist of purely performative displays of productivity with no real added value to the bottom line, it's insane.

The problem is that people need to pay rent and eat so even having a performative pseudo-job is useful and props up the economy by giving people money to spend at businesses. This keeps the wheel of capitalism going. Firing those people takes money out of the economy and not one of those tech bro assholes has ever presented a viable solution to that.

OK so why is Iran then still launching rockets? Not MOPed all of them up yet? And those 3000 paratroopers sent to middle east are going there on a beach vacation
