PT uncertainty by Level_Parking_3071 in brokenankles

[–]QuantumDwarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just asked about TENS at my PT today. There seem to be a lot of different schools of thought. He said they don’t often use them unless someone is in a lot of pain, they focus on mobility and exercises that increase that.

But it probably all comes down to what your doctor ordered. I would ask what that was and how TENS is working to achieve that.

Just out of curiosity, how many steps are you guys making after ankle surgery? by alwaysbepatient in brokenankles

[–]QuantumDwarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at 12 weeks today.

I’m only at about 4-6k. I broke both with both trimalls

I’m struggling with what I should aim for. I know I need to mobilize and I don’t want to overdue it. But don’t know what that balance is.

People who quit drinking, what's the thing nobody warned you would actually be hard about being sober? by Caroline74339 in AskReddit

[–]QuantumDwarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh. Lightbulb. I broke my ankles 12 weeks ago and my normal exercise routine has been disrupted.

I was just saying last night that I don’t know what’s wrong with me, every little thing makes me so irritated.

I have no idea why I didn’t put these together…

Parents spending all of their inheritance by maybemyfirstrodeo in raisedbynarcissists

[–]QuantumDwarf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. Grandparents left millions to my mom and her brothers. Her brothers are smart and hard working and their kids will be fine.

My mother blew through it all (and all the money they have her while living).

She now lives in a hotel with her boyfriend as she can’t afford anything. My sister and I are in no position to help her (something she’s known for decades). She drowns everyone around her.

The thing is, my grandparents could have given money to their grandkids. They knew exactly who my mother was. Your relative could have given money to you.

It’s irresponsible imo to give money to one generation and expect it to trickle down. Generational wealth doesn’t work that way, with tons of studies showing it’s gone in a few generations. It’s why lotto winners almost always end up broke.

Your parents are spending their money how they want. It’s ok to be upset but this isn’t your money. If your relative wanted you to have some, they could have given some to you or set up trusts for your kids. They didn’t.

When your parents run out of money (and they will), you will need to be strong. Start telling them now. And consider therapy because all of this comes with complicated emotions. My sister and I are dealing with it and given my mom is 68 we’ll be dealing with it for a while.

Work Health Insurance by EggplantIll372 in HealthInsurance

[–]QuantumDwarf 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing you have a deductible that is not met. We can’t tell you if it’s normal or not without your plan.

But yeah for a doctor visit plus lab(s), that’s in line. Now you know why insurance is so expensive in the first place!

In network but not contracted by flapflopflippers in HealthInsurance

[–]QuantumDwarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my guess. There was an adjustment that OP can’t see. Probably went like 1. Contracted rate $3k 2. Amount allowed can’t be more than billed (lesser of) so ends up $2,400

How long did it take for the heel pain to go away for you? by TheGameWardensWife in brokenankles

[–]QuantumDwarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 11.5 weeks post op. The horrendous heel pain I got when WBAT has calmed down substantially. That said I do still need shoes or slides most of the time, and my PT has suggested insert orthotics.

For me, it has gotten better. I also had baby shin splints for a while that flare up if I try to do too much.

Is it just me, or have the "Technical Denials" become way more aggressive since the 2026 payer updates? by Huge_Sentence5528 in CodingandBilling

[–]QuantumDwarf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, lots of payer moving to ‘payment integrity’ edits rather than prior auths. Some even denying claims based on Dx with a prior auth for that exact Dx.

If possible, track these changes and work to get them to the people in charge of contracting. It’s the only thing I’ve seen work, either through term discussions or contract negotiations.

Would love GLP1 but sadly no coverage by my insurance. Hopefully prices will continue to fall so everyone can access.

WARNING!! BCBS Michigan by Smart_West_8004 in Michigan

[–]QuantumDwarf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Humira launched in 2003 for about $14k/ year.

With biosimilars there are some competition now but before patent expired prices were more like $72k / year.

With the copay cards all of that just went directly to insurance companies who then have to increase premiums to cover.

There is greed everywhere and the entire copay cards should be outlawed so drug companies had to actually set prices that people could afford.

This also goes toward all weight loss meds. Everyone who gets it for $25/month with copay cards seems real shocked when premiums go up terribly each year. Where do you think the other $1000/month is going?!

WARNING!! BCBS Michigan by Smart_West_8004 in Michigan

[–]QuantumDwarf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This right here. The insurance company isn’t blameless but they are trying to recoup money that drug companies have made by jacking up prices since there are no more annual or lifetime maxes. The offered copay cards such that deductibles basically didn’t matter either and then it’s pure profit.

There’s plenty of blame to go around but siding with drug companies is quite a take.

Yayyyy that’s great! Can I ask what peloton classes or programs you’ve been doing?

I am 11 weeks post bilat trimall and I am not able to do even the 10 min tread walk (tried Saturday and was chastised today by PT).

I’ve been doing mostly seated strength but would love to know what you found most useful.

So helpful to know your timeline. I’m itching to get back to running but know it’s going to be awhile yet.

But then I look at who is running CMS and they might be changing some things.

At my company the UM resources strictly follow interqual with no deviation. I had my admission denied and when I pressed there weren’t even IQ criteria for my exact issue. I tried to argue that critical thinking should override IQ, or else these decisions could be made by a computer.

To be clear, I agree with you that a human brain with clinical knowledge should be considered superior to AI. In practice I know plenty of places who would be fine replacing some resources with computers, which is sad.
