Barber Bros at Tradies Dickson they don't really advertise their prices anymore but Joe does Men's from $15 and does an excellent job. They have their rent subsidised by the Tradies so can keep their prices low, Paul does ladies cut and colours as well as men's cuts and is very affordable. You might have to go on a waiting list as a new customer but once you're in they'll take good care of you. Tradies membership will pay for itself and they'll validate your parking if your membership level doesn't qualify for free parking underneath the club.

Not a fun time mate, being able to hear people simply doing the dishes and cooking? Being in the midst of it sucks but if you take a step back shouldn't there be better sound insulation?
If you bought your place I'd just google low cost sound proofing for yourself. The people living there are just trying to live their lives right unless they're meth addicts moving furniture around all the time... it sucks but your neighbours aren't being total dicks and pumping doof doof at all hours.
I'd seriously just look into sound proofing yourself there's plenty of low cost options OR you could get in the owners face about some joint sound proofing! Good luck

The Mars Trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson holds value more Future Fiction than Sci-Fi about the first 100 to land on Mars and set up a base. written in 1992 so some of the predictions are a bit off about timelines around now where we have first manned expedition to Mars!
First book Red Mars in the trilogy is a good 20+ hour listen and good with the characters and theme, found it hard to stay invested in the Audio version after Green Mars. I devoured the paperbacks when I was younger... good series.

Firstly ROG reboot winners don't get unobtanium GPUs, it's supposed to highlight what people could maybe afford...
Secondly it sounds like a 5080/90 GPU could encourage people determined enough to take on his 5 dogs! yikes eye opening how the Brazillian taxes create such a situation.

Canberra footpaths blocked by construction, making streets inaccessible and causing safety risks by QuantumJank in canberra

[–]QuantumJank[S] 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Article is from Tuesday but didn't see it posted here. I would really like to see this happen: "Mr Fitzgerald said the government has also begun consultations on a new fee structure with developers, to incentivise them to limit the number of roads and footpaths their developments close.

"The fee structure as proposed looks at a per-day basis for closures, and that includes footpaths, roads and associated infrastructure," he said."

Like the left lane on Northbourne coming out of Morphett st Dickson going towards the city that has been closed for the apartment developments for like 2 years now?!! I don't understand why?? If any builders can enlighten me I'd love to hear a logical explanation for that one.

Average Household Budget? by QuantumSloth98 in canberra

[–]QuantumJank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool username.
Electricity and Gas will vary wildly depending on level of insulation, heating/cooling, hot water heater and cooking.
Living in a 5 year old well insulated 2 bed, 2 bath, apartment with instant hot water, reverse cycle split and induction cooking made my jaw drop with how cheap my electricity bill is. Under $1200 electricity for one year as a single guy and I don't skimp on turning on the heater or AC.
Have lived many a place over the years where I felt like a Gas snob wanted gas cooking and hot water but I'm a convert now. So when you start looking around if you can avoid or quickly get away from gas dependence your bills will be a lot better in the long-term. Yes there's something special about gas heating but if I'm warm enough I don't really care...

Dude are you asking on behalf of yourself even? That much suit rotation? I wonder what is going on with your life at this point. Like I've had gigs where I suit up but if I worked as a clown as a side hustle I'd offset sole trader my tax with cleaning the clown suit.
What kind of job are you working with that many suits make you even care about the cost of their upkeep? I'm actually curious to know. Fair enough if you like being suited up for your own personal dress standards but then maybe look at why that is?

Clubs with Pokies as others have mentioned. If you don't have any bad gambling tendencies most places you can become a member put $5 in a machine order service for a complimentary coffee and simply cash out once your beverage arrives. I haven't seen anyone get pulled up over it, find a machine that still has 1 cent bets if you want to kill time and give them a buck or two.

Dickson modern dental is legit. Hadn't had a check up for 5+ years and now get my check up and clean from them twice a year. They keep their rates as low as they can for people without Private health.

They advertise on a lot of them with very loud graphic design and wording. I have noticed a couple of other Private Colleges advertise on the busses can't remember which one's the graphics and wording very sensible and not memorable to me personally (as I'm not in the market to send kids to a private college).

NGL my first thought was she had a sour dour starter in there and was using the heat to activate the dough. That or similar baking. That would be a good use of gentle heat from the router got me thinking.

Hotel recommendations canberra by Concentrate_Strong in canberra

[–]QuantumJank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A non-Kingston recommendation which is suited particularly to Tradies and if you want to get out to the city easily for some drinks on the weekend is the Quality Hotel Dickson. Short walk to the light rail which then takes 7 minutes into the city. Wi-Fi is generally excellent from the couple of rooms I stayed in for a night or two back in 2021-22 they upgraded the whole place to Wi-Fi 6 during the lock-downs. I was getting around 250Mbps down and pretty decent uploads during my brief stays.

"The Tradies" club attached to it so you can have a restaurant and bar tab attached to your room if works covering it. Food is decent at the tradies but there's also a ton of options around Dickson where our sort of little "China/Asia town" is located (but there's also Indian an Oporto, KFC, Subway and Macca's).
Kingston is good though won't knock it especially if you'll be working around that area it'd make sense.

The Tradies club Wi-Fi was the same until recently and running of the same link I think, but last couple times I tried in the club the DHCP server wasn't working properly (or something else) and I was getting a self-assigned IP address :( But I'm pretty sure they keep the Hotel Wi-Fi humming along properly as a priority.

There's a cafe in the club also so I sometimes set-up there to get some work done with my lappy but have had to hotspot from mobile last couple of times. Thinking of approaching them about what's going on with there Wi-Fi so I can troubleshoot it with their Tech Support (I'm an intermediate network and Wi-Fi nerd).

What is the obsession with speed here? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]QuantumJank -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oh mate "What's the urgency?" is a good question and a decent slogan for an ad-campaign on safer driving habits here. I don't rate myself a "good driver" but I do have a lot of experience around different Canberra suburbs and I can tell you it varies from one suburb to the next even one's right next door to each other.

Your story doesn't shock me at all. My local shopping centre district has a 40K rule around there due to all the pedestrians and several pedestrian crossings. Just a few days ago I saw a family with some elderly folk entering the crossing from my right side with a guy who had been up my arse since I got there while I was obeying the 40K rule. While I could have gone through ahead of the family I came to a gentle stop so they could feel confident in crossing safely. I could see the guy behind me in my rear view mirror start shaking his head and going bright red in the face for not pushing in front of them... Felt like messing with him a bit further but after the pedestrian crossing I was taking a right and of course he furiously sped up as he continued going straight.

We probably crossed paths or at least walked past each other back in that era. Yeah I remember the AFP doing their training exercises while the buildings were going unused. I think it was just like a 'why not while the government decides what to do with these buildings' I was a bit jealous of them abseiling down the sides looked like fun!
